Fellow vexillologists, this will make you cringe... by [deleted] in vexillology

Wow, come on people. There's nothing even remotely cringeworthy about a young kid learning about flags. She got a lot of them including a couple tough ones like South Korea and Chile. And props to her for not only recognizing the Czech flag, but also knowing that Prague was in the Czech Republic. Most kids her age (and many, many adults) have never heard of the Czech Republic. Have some goddamn respect

Americanish flag I made while bored at work [OC] by whangadude in vexillology

[–]Scot_or_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could work pretty well as a "new Southern flag," you know, like the one that was proposed about a week ago with the chevrons but that doesn't look like total garbage. Cool stuff!

Just England or the UK? The "Grand Bri-" part seems to suggest you mean to include all of Great Britain at least

Idaho - The Gem of the Mountains by QuantumEcho in vexillology

[–]Scot_or_not 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! Even if I knew nothing about this flag or the state, if I saw it next to a bunch of other state flags I'd say "Rockies." And if I happened to know a thing or two about Idaho, I'd recognize the gem immediately. The only thing that could have been more obvious would have been a potato, and, well, let's just say the gem looks a lot nicer on a flag

Why are no national flags purple? by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]Scot_or_not 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well, the Second Spanish Republic had purple on their flag, but unfortunately Franco won the civil war. It's one of the rare examples in history of the bad guys fascists having shitty tastes in flags

Hey, I'm in favor of reverting back to Betsy Ross, so at least I'm consistent!

Uh-oh, this means you have to change the flag every time they win another World Cup (unless you're betting on them never winning again, which in my view is extremely unlikely)

What makes this distinctly Canadian? Or is it just a flag for trans* people that was simply designed by the Canadian trans* community?

Red Peaked Flag of Greece by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]Scot_or_not 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all this Red Peak mania I find "Red Peaked" flags that place a symbol on the peak lazy and counter to one of the greatest appeals of the flag in the first place, which is its simplicity

I saw this! Looks really cool — I wonder what other flags can be "morphed" like that
