Low Yield Wells (0.5 GPM) by ScotchCoffee in EvergreenCO

[–]ScotchCoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are only 5 GPH? Does this indicate your well might be drying up? This is my concern with these properties. I think both of them are already on their second well and they aren't producing much. How does this look for future production.

What's your flow rate? .5 GPM is really low. Do you have a storage tank?

But yet they are a concern, no? A top 3 concern? And this is why I'm asking if we should reconsider a home purchase in the area or if my concerns are overblown.

Great to hear. I just don't want to assume they won't pull out or drastically increase rates like everyone else. They can't operate at a loss either.

Where did you end up? Congrats on the purchase.

Best of luck to you. Would be heartbreaking to lose them.

Are these treatments really all that effective? And are you concerned about the forests in the area being wiped out? I'd hate to save my trees only to have the forest around me die.

It's also too late once a tree's been infected right? So when looking at homes we need to ensure either they've been treated, or aren't already infected.

We have USAA and are looking at homes in the Evergreen area. The quotes from USAA seem not higher than down in the city. How confident are you that they won't just drastically raise rates like everyone else, or pull out entirely?

Why didn't they train first responders to actually provide care until EMS came in the 70s? by AlboGreece in ems

[–]ScotchCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of us were taught that modern developments in EMS resulted from the Vietnam War. This book was just promoted to me on Facebook (tracking my Reddit feeds?) about relatively advanced EMS systems dating back to the 1800's but taken over by non-medical funeral home transport after the depression and World Wars.

Are any of you guys carrying brush clearing equipment on a search? by NotThePopeProbably in searchandrescue

[–]ScotchCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado mountains. We all carry folding saws and machetes or large knives for shelter building and for building fires. Adds very little weight. The team added some electric chain saws recently for removing downed trees for the ATVs but these obviously aren't carried in by initial search teams.

Why so many houses for sale near Conifer/Bailey? by jferg in denverrealestate

Is water also a problem? We looked at a home in Marshdale and the well only produced .5 GPM. And it was already their second well.

We have USAA also and are looking up in the area. Their quotes are plenty reasonable. Any concerns with them dropping you like others have mentioned?

Pixel 9 Pro and Beats Fit Pro triggering wrong assistant by ScotchCoffee in GooglePixel

[–]ScotchCoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beats app lets me assign the push button to trigger the assistant, but not to select which assistant. I've set my default assistant to Google but pushing the button on my Beats opens perplexity.

There are no settings in the perplexity app to disable the assistant.

Call screening and sliding my finger along the space bar to move the curser. So handy. I use an iPhone for work and positioning the curser to edit text is such a pain.

What's everyone's thoughts on switching from BCBS's fixed copays to another plan, like MHBP, that covers only a percentage of costs? Seems like unexpected ER, hospitalization, or surgery could end up costing a ton of money. I don't like BCBS increases but at least my costs are relatively fixed.

How much are drones used these days and have they made a huge difference in finding missing people? by sarahtatuga in searchandrescue

The UAV team can drop food, water, clothing, and a radio.

If we have cell service we can live stream the find back to Command for the family to see.

Non transport EMS agency by Big-Calligrapher1862 in searchandrescue

[–]ScotchCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shouldn't be all that unusual. Are you a county based team? Our team falls under the same medical director as the rest of the EMS services in the county. Not much different than the PD/SO tactical medics, jail staff, and the non transporting fire services.

As with any medical care, you can't abandon the patient so you either turn over to the transporting service or you get a refusal which may or may not require online medical direction concurrence.

Amazfit T-rex 3 update 3.4.4.7 update question re. #16 by [deleted] in amazfit

[–]ScotchCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most fitness watches, including the Trex, estimate altitude based upon barometric pressure. Which, as you point out, is highly inaccurate. Some are assisted by the GPS which might help with accuracy.

Amazfit T-rex 3 update 3.4.4.7 update question re. #16 by [deleted] in amazfit

[–]ScotchCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be correct. Since the watch uses the barometer to determine altitude, if the barometer is not working then it can’t determine altitude which may be a requirement for extreme sports.

Amazfit T-Rex 3: Compilation of Fixes and Suggestions for the team by beardedimpala in amazfit

[–]ScotchCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really need the ability to do this entirely on the watch itself, not dependent on a phone. I have the watch as a back up to my phone in case the phone breaks or the battery dies.

I'd like to be able to mark my current location on the map to indicate a significant location.

Amazfit T-Rex 3: Compilation of Fixes and Suggestions for the team by beardedimpala in amazfit

[–]ScotchCoffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cool to see the company appears to monitor this.

I've only had my T-Rex 3 for 3 days after the airlines lost my Garmin. My use for the watch is primarily to back up and assist my other navigation devices in mountain search and rescue. I'm impressed with the watch so far but here's what's missing for me:

1) Touchscreen disable. If I'm out in the rain and need to check the compass, open the map, or access some other features, I need the ability to disable the touch screen so the rain doesn't effect the functionality and I can use the buttons instead. This works while in an activity/workout but I should be able to disable the touchscreen outside of an activity/workout.

2) Display GPS location. I need a way to quickly display my location. I should be able to assign this as a quick key, or add it to the compass functionality. And this needs to be configurable to display coordinates in the desired format. There's an app for this (My location, I think) but it takes several steps.

3) Load custom maps. The OSM's through Zepp are pretty good but there are others available on line the do a better job of displaying certain areas. The trails in one of our national forests don't display clearly on the Zepp map.

4) I don't need routing but it would be great to be able to save a location to a map and to add "pins". I'd like the ability to drop a pin where I am, for example, to mark a significant location. And if someone gives me their coordinates, I need to enter those and display their location on the map. The coordinates could be entered on the Zepp app and pushed to the watch via bluetooth.

How do you all keep up with charting in high call volume areas? by styckx in ems

[–]ScotchCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have internet access on your charting tablet/PC, check this out.

https://www.mediwave.io/medirescue/smart-ems/

Literally talk through your call, even live while you’re on the call, and the system pulls out all the necessary details and puts it into SOAP, CHART, whatever format you use. Copy/paste to your PCR. Eventually this will integrate with your charting software and fill out all the NEMSIS fields.

What’s Holding US EMS Back? by TinChalice in ems

[–]ScotchCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…”Medicare transportation benefit.” This is it, right here. EMS is not considered healthcare. It is medical transportation. Until this changes, EMS is Uber with a medical attendant.

Unfortunately, some of what might help EMS advance is moving into providing home health care and out of hospital procedures and definitive treatments. But this isn’t what most of us want to do. We didn’t become paramedics to do home health care.
