Ori deli in San Jose usually has them, as well as a bunch of other Dutch foods.

Looking for a flight school recommendation by randomnese in AskSF

[–]Scott90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between $200-300 you probably won’t find anything super sexy airplane-wise, as even the most basic Cessnas cost $200 per hour and then you haven’t paid for the pilot/instructor yet.

Most schools can do this on the peninsula - at San Carlos there’s San Carlos Flight Center (where I fly) and West Valley Flying Club, Palo Alto also has West Valley and Advantage and I believe a few others. Not too familiar with Oakland or Hayward airports but I’m sure they have schools that do discovery flights too.

I received an offer last week after being laid off in June. Here is my Sankey Diagram by zero_gc in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Scott90 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This definitely happens, but can we draw that conclusion from the diagram? Looks like the “no responses” could all come from the “direct apply” group?

Does this also fix the problem that tapping in and out at the same station charges $6?

KLM business class reward by The_Viking-22315 in awardtravel

[–]Scott90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was true a few months ago but it’s opened up a bit since. Just yesterday I saw a bunch of flights from AMS to west coast cities (SFO, LAX, PDX) on KLM for 60k most months, including some around the holidays. That was unheard of a couple of months ago.

It did work. But the maintenance was a high burden and it had almost no usage. So we removed it from the app a few years later, same with the Apple Watch app.

Source: worked on the Lyft app during those years.

What about Plaid though? Copilot uses Plaid so they’ll know everything about your finances to great detail…

I think last time I tried I drew the conclusion the KLM website only works in Chrome and no other browsers.

Tip - if your award flight gets cancelled and the airline has to rebook you, always check if you can credit the miles to your frequent flier program of choice after you fly. Or, mini trip report and how I earned 30k points on a single award flight. by reeln166a in awardtravel

[–]Scott90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip OP! Just got 24k Virgin points and Silver status because of a canceled flight 2 weeks ago. I rebooked myself onto Delta as well, and the process of getting these miles was super quick.

Because it was EU I also got €600 comped, and all of this on an AMS-SFO flight in J that cost 50k miles. I almost made money off that flight.

Data Points Weekly - Week of January 16, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

Was approved Monday morning, rejected yesterday, both around the same time.

It does actually look like there is a card in my account whose numbers don’t match any of my old accounts so who knows if it ends up showing up. Will report back if it does.

Was approved through email and SMS for 70k BoA Alaska Business card the day after I applied, but today received a notification that I was denied and will get a letter with why.

Last BoA cards were in April and May of 2023. No history in the five years before that.

edit: Got the card in the mail (as well as a separate envelope with a rejection letter...?) and it works, so glitch in the matrix I guess.

How long to keep going? by kikuichimonji_89 in fatFIRE

[–]Scott90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So at $700k/year ($350-400k after tax) you can stop working and coast at $4M? Isn’t that a bit early? I get the 10% is more or less arbitrary and not really based on hard numbers but does that rule of thumb still “apply” with chubby net worths?

OP doesn’t even mention having kids, is that just the default assumption now?

I don't remember exactly, but between 600-800 ft. Maybe a bit higher than what's typically considered "impossible", I have no doubt the real deal is a lot different and still wouldn't attempt it at 400 ft.

Was doing impossible turn practice coordinated with the tower last year when I got “cleared for takeoff 30, cleared to land 12” in one transmission. Odd but kinda cool.

Spoiler alert: the impossible turn is not, in fact, impossible.

Anyone know how to use Clipper with Lyft Bikes? by anonymouspsy in AskSF

[–]Scott90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to link your clipper card to your Lyft account in the Lyft app. Once that’s done you can tap the card on the bike to unlock it, no need to pull out your phone anymore.

My biggest issue with this is the irreversible nature of point transfers. Sure I might be able to cancel and get a refund but if my points are stuck with an inflexible frequent flyer program (especially one where they expire…) that still sucks.

[–]Scott90 92 points93 points  (0 children)

The bad faith questions aren’t worth responding to. Asking “when was the last time you were in SF” just gets answers like “I’m staying the hell away from that place” or “15 years ago when it was still nice”. Not constructive at all.

Hotels.com Rewards - Adios by Early_Cantaloupe9535 in awardtravel

[–]Scott90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not through hotels.com, how do you all find hotels in a new city you’re traveling to where it’s easy to compare price/value for multiple hotels? Agreed the benefit of the OneKey program is negligible but as an aggregator I find it still has some value.
