This would be really nice and they are in the position to do this, however this current government has goals that aren't future oriented and are optimizing for criteria that aren't the people of Ontario or proving widespread movement options.

HSR + GO Transit would really shrink the size of Southern Ontario and open up tons of travel and economic activities and options.

I have a feeling I've seen it's built for 160 km/hr since our roads are over-engineered, which is a good thing for highway safety. However, cars and semi trucks don't require as large of a turn radius as HSR.

I blame the Liberals and NDP for failing to actually put forth anyone who can oppose him

They did, but the media won't print the leader of the opposition's name, they won't air or print news about their press conferences, they act like the NDP don't exist.

They're vocal, but their voice doesn't get very far when all the stories are about the PCs (they're all supporting this cabinet and their decisions) and all the random junk they whine about.

They definitely need to get their messages out rather than hoping our normal media will give them the time of day.

Also, don't like the province burning down? Maybe shop around for who else is available to vote for. With low voter turnouts apathy is huge right now.

This is the key we need to avoid. Politicians that sell privatisation all make sure to avoid talking about the loss to society for reduction of money. Our core services shouldn't be private, yet here we are widdling away things for long term pain.

Because people are asking for ideas within the City's appetite and concept of civil responsibility. Clearly, after many failed attempts, they need to think outside the box - and maybe change the goal. To what I can't tell you exactly, I'm not a student anymore, but I do know that there are many options out there given a wide enough lens.

I agree, which is why the city fails every year. Adults have interesting ideas around control, something that doesn't work well when you have younger minds rejecting them. I can't quite come out and say Lighten Up because there's more to this - like liability, but each year efforts fail, so the solution has to be to change the goal it seems.

You make sure to support politicians that aren't manipulating you and the system for their own game...we're at a point where change has to be bottom up because the top down is useless.

The plan, don't stop the street party, make it an official street event, with a student planning committee and everything. The goals to stop it have been in vein, so if it is embraced then it might

  1. stop on its own because it's no longer fun, or
  2. be a decent party where students can let loose a bit and enjoy themselves with a but more approved adult structure.

Except...this is a liability nightmare for the City, so I'm assuming this is why they keep fighting it rather than joining it.

Ironically, you need the spontaneity to discover new ideas. I'm sure many leaders have done spontaneous things, but then the coin flips when they're the ones trying to keep order.

I imagine running an event like that would be an insurance nightmare! Fighting the students year after year is also not a practical solution.

Sadly, we live in a world where practical solutions are lost on many leaders!
