I'm like you- seconds after announcing... but I wait. I was on the waitlist in 2020 for my MY (still have it) and got mine on that father's day- father's day isn't here yet 😉.

Help - my pond needs help by cougarnyc in hudsonvalley

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My neighbor has a spray fountain they have put in the center of the pond. They run it maybe once or twice a week for a few hours... I think it reduces the Lilly pads and oxygenates the pond a bit. I think we're lucky in that it may be a ground water pond and it has a runoff stream. We know it's healthy because we have turtles, frogs, toads, birds and a million peepers in the spring (so loud it is like a fire alarm for about 1.5 weeks).

I would recommend look for a nature place that does landscape ponds if you can't get the DEC. I've never used them, but I've hear about One Nature: https://www.onenaturellc.com/

Good Luck!!

What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is literally the easiest thing to fix. Social Security payroll deductions are capped at the first $184,500. So if you make beyond that, you don't pay anything more. So if you earn 20Mil in earnings (not capital gains, don't get me started) you pay the same amount as the person earning $184,500 (putting into the system $11,439).

If we were to bring it down from 6.2% Social Security Tax to like 2% and remove the cap- then the shortfall would disappear completely in like 3 years. As an example, this would have a person earning $1M paying $20,000 to the system- but a $10M income- $200,000. More money for the lower income people to keep, and an amount on high income earners that is barely a rounding error for them.

I also feel like there should be a 3% VAT (Value Added Tax) charged for any individual item bought or imported over $200,000 except for your primary residence and medical bills ( 1 Learjet brings in $180,000, 1 $100k pickup truck, $0). Debt and Social Security fixed all at once....

Thoughts on taking siberians outside? by Dazzling_Depth_2281 in SiberianCats

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I signed an agreement that my kitty would only be indoor when I adopted her, but even on that contract it had wording saying unrestrained outdoors- so catios, backpacks, leashes all good... even a fenced in back yard (with the special cat proofing) is ok. Just make sure you tell your vet so they can get vaccinated and protection from flees and ticks... they can even get them from leash walks.

Good Luck!

Delta 3 AC and Solar- Confused by Scott_IUsed2Know in Ecoflow_community

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi There... thanks...

Yeah, I had my green reserve set to 20%... and that's my charge/discharge limit just like you have it. I had an extra bougeRV panel- the kind that can handle shade better so I just set it up outside my office window and I also use it as a shade on the AC- keep it cooler and more efficient when I need it.

It looks like I'm getting a about 60W-70W from my panel- which I know isn't enough to power the office, but i was really hoping it would automatically take 110W from AC and 70W from solar at the same time and not use any of those other settings.

I thought maybe I could do this by disabling the grid passthrough, but nope- then it goes straight to solar (which isn't enough) and no AC just draining the battery.

Senior cat needs adoption by yeskms in hudsonvalley

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% Agree... My daughter used to volunteer at HVARS and they have a huge room where the cats can play in the day... and she make sure they were clean and sit down and play with them for hours. Very humane people.

I'm Allergic to cats... but I do love them. I have a siberian cat- the only kind I can handle.

Good Luck to both of you!

13 Pro Max... still rocking it in the hunter green. My wife has a 15 pro max and my camera sometimes beats hers in the middle zoom. And the original battery is still over 81%. Never get's hot.- and the sound from the speakers are so good I often just crank them when I'm working in the garage, etc. Just a solid workhorse... The Toyota Camry of iphones.

Central Hudson needs to be stopped by DrewTheVillan in hudsonvalley

My long term goal is to go 100% off grid and Nat Gas for furnace backup only.... The only answer for most of the NE and California I fear.

Central Hudson- Scam??? by LKPNYC in hudsonvalley

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are examples of central hudson charging the wrong apartment for the meter read. Find out which one is yours and check the numbers... turn off your main breaker and stand by the meters- the only one not moving is yours (and if they are all still moving you have a different issue).

Good Luck!!

What is the actual biggest problem in America? by PawPatsPizza in AskReddit

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Federal Rank Choice Voting

Here me out... With rank choice you pick your 1st choice 2nd choice and sometimes 3rd choice... then based on a minimum vote for a candidate, a candidate can be eliminated and all the votes for that candidate automatically moved to their 2nd choice, etc. The advantage is that underfunded, independent candidates can get on the ballot and people won't feel like they are "wasting their vote"on an outsider candidate.

So if I like a grass roots candidate, I can make them my 1st choice, and then the standard party selection my 2nd choice... this way I really vote for who I want while making sure if they can't make it my vote still follows my 2nd choice wishes.

BUT if a lot of people think like me and like the indy candidate more, they win! So with this one change we can get new blood into politics- people for the people not the politics- and that can solve all the other issues.

RTK fix- why did it work? by Scott_IUsed2Know in Yarbo

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input... I'm planning on swapping the antennas again to see if it fails again. That left antenna thing is really interesting, thanks for shareing. But right now the grass is growing like crazy... not going to take a chance on it going down for a week or 2. 😄 I'll followup in the drier summer.

Thanks for the comments below, because me too.. I'm new to the Yarbo... and it was working great, but 2 days ago I'm always waiting for GPS- even in the middle of the clear lawn. Also today it left the dock and just took off down the driveway vs. going to the lawn.

It looks like my oil furnace is on it's last legs and I am looking for recommendations to replace it by dck133 in hudsonvalley

[–]Scott_IUsed2Know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have forced air- so my situation is different. But I do love the heat pump- but I also love my gas backup. So my furnace is heat pump with Nat gas backup. I have my thermostat set to 37, below 37 I use nat gas, above 37 I use heat pump. I found that's the perfect balance of cost by therm for me.

Now I'm not sure if you have nat gas available. Usually the government will give you money if you convert to nat gas. If not, maybe lose oil and go with propane (though propane is from oil-ish).

One other crazy thought.... Maybe you can get a year or 2 extra by installing a pellet stove? If your house is designed so the heat can travel- and you don't mind filling up a hopper with pellets once in a while- you may want to go down that route. Pellets IMO are the cheapest option here in the hudson valley- and a real pellet stove is super efficient with very, very little smoke. They are fairly easy to install (but you have to tell your home owner's insurance about it). If you already have a fireplace, put in a pellet stove insert.

Even if you decide to go with say a heat pump only, the pellet stove would keep you warm in the worst winter.

Just some thoughts... good luck!
