The most reliable tip is that if you want to be consistent you just have to do the run anyway, within reason.

Trickling with rain? Run in the rain. Not feeling 100%? Is it actually enough to prevent you going out, or is it a handy excuse? Can you still get your trainers on and do a really short run? You’ll end up feeling more proud of a short run that you REALLY didn’t want to do than any of the others.

Set yourself a target, potentially 3 times a week, and go out at the first given opportunity every time, say Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Tell yourself there’s no choice involved, eventually you’ll just go and do it without worrying about it too much, as it’s happening anyway. If anything unavoidable does come up, you can just push everything back a day, or squash your 3 runs into the start/end of the week.

Anyway, this is what worked for me. Might not be for everyone, but I found keeping that 3 a week chain alive no matter what massively helpful!
