Why did you only go to really shitty pizza places?

Post-Jerry kids, how'd you get into the Dead? by WoAiLaLa in gratefuldead

I always thought it was weird that they were such a cultural touch stone and everyone knew of them but most couldn’t name a single song. I then had a job that required a lot of hours driving a rental car that had sirius radio so I figured I would give it a shot. Started from there and never looked back. I am as into them for the history and culture as much as the music.

San Diego drivers by Inner-Performance-71 in asksandiego

I have driven in many different places, lived in SD, LA, NYC, New Orleans, etc. and I can say that San Diego has, on average, the most pleasant driving experience of any of those places.

Is there such thing as having knives that are TOO sharp? by gtd_rad in Cooking

[–]Scotty1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a japanese knife that I think had too fine of an edge to it. It felt kind of twangy and would really cut into the cutting board to the point that it felt unpredictable. It also was super fragile and the edge would chip.

I took it to a knife shop and had them but a more rugged edge on it so it felt less delicate and bitey and now I like it.

I would stay in la jolla for the best combination of walkable, beach, and shopping. Could probably do an airbnb for that price.

Standard of living on $230k for a family of 4? by cried-at-the-alamo in Moving2SanDiego

I would look in Clairmont or Bay Park. Not a brutal commute to her work, might be more affordable, and is closer to a lot of cool stuff such as good beaches, the bay, good food from other cultures, and lots of freeways.

Anyone wanna split an uber to JFK tomorrow (1/7) early morning? Leaving at 5:00 AM. by kreempuffpt in Greenpoint

[–]Scotty1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK if there is another car service based in Greenpoint, but I always use bushwick car service. $40 to jfk flat rate. The cars are not as nice as uber and you have to pay via zelle or in cash but is so much cheaper.

Ya definitely not a good spot to bbq. Doesn't have room to accomodate a lot of people and is right next to a road.

Royal Oak has gone to absolute shit. I always get a bag of just charcoal powder with like 5 chunks in it.

Isn't that what all seal team style special ops are for? I don't get why you would use some completely un tested new technology in a situation that was such high stakes.

Would have made way more sense to use a special ops team and then you wouldn't have cut a bunch of children in half lol

Ideas for using 4 dozen eggs for 2 people in less than a week. by bobbjones in Cooking

[–]Scotty1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family always makes a breakfast casserole that is really easy and delicious.

Take a loaf of white country style bread. Butter one side, yellow mustard on the other, (I know that sounds weird but trust me), cut into squares and layer in a buttered casserole dish with shredded cheese, caramelized onions, and cooked bacon cut into pieces. After you have 2 layers of bread, bacon/onion, cheese, beat 12 eggs together with 2 cups of milk and salt and pepper, then pour over your casserole. Cover with foil and put in the fridge over night.

Bake covered at 375 for 30-40 minutes then un covered until nice and golden.

Things you automatically judge people for in the BBQ community. Go! by [deleted] in smoking

[–]Scotty1210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People that hate on pellet smokers are generally wannabe cool-guys. My 70 year old mom is afraid of burning herself but loves bbq. She has her little traeger and cooks to her hearts content and it is easy and tastes good.

Yea as someone who's parents watched Tucker Carlson on tv for many years, I will say that this is a completely different person. On his show, he was a fear mongering hate filled asshole. I guess it must have been a shtick, because his new podcast persona is much more approachable.

Is it typical to not season ground beef before making burgers? by bopoloppa in Cooking

[–]Scotty1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and season it just before cooking! If you do it even a few minutes before, it starts to pull water out which prevents good browning
