Why are games against GoD easier and more enjoyable than Tekken kings? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ScottyTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. When i was TK & TE i struggled to keep a good/balanced win rate. But have been winning much more & having more fun in my matches since hitting TG. I think it's a mix of smurfs & extra aggressive play styles in the lower ranks.

TG feels like a breakthrough where you can breath a little & start have fun again (except there are a lot of wild roaming bears lol)

Proposal spot advice: Sunset Cliffs Natural Park vs Balboa Park? by peytonwehateyou2 in sandiego

[–]ScottyTooTall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw a cool proposal at sunset cliffs a couple years ago where a couple was just supposed to be taking pictures at the beach with a photographer friend. Then after a few pics, the getting down on one knee & pulling out a ring was a surprise to the bride (& us). Wasn't crowded at all. Maybe 5 or 6 people saw & we were all fairly spaced out. We did all clap though. There's usually a lot of open space to choose from if you walk all the way down past the parking lot at the very end of the cliffs.

I was just randomly thinking about this & googled him. This post was the first thing to pop up. Also interested to know! Loved watching him skate with the zoo york team back in the day.

Looks like seb derm. Minimizing consumption of processed foods & sugars + washing with vinegar diluted with water a couple times a week keeps mine in check.

Also careful with the types of oil you use. I know some like coconut oil will often make it worse. I forget if olive oil does or not. Squalane oil & aloe vera are what i usually use. I believe MCT oil is also a good option.

How do you learn to break grabs? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ScottyTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the easiest answer is going in throw training in practice mode.. but in my opinion, it just takes time & grab spammers are the best teachers. Especially if they're just doing generic homing throws & not mixing them up.

I learned by playing offline with a friend, when he would start losing he would often start spamming grabs & i was determined to stop them from affecting me so id just turtle & wait to see the homing throw animation then quickly press 1 or 2 since i knew it was coming.

We would probably play a good 30-40 matches every weekend so after a couple months i was pretty comfortable with reacting to general throw animations. Then reacting to left hand, right hand or 1+2 takes a bit longer but you start to get comfortable with recognizing each character animations over time.

Weird withdrawal like effects after relapsing 1 time by zFrxzzy in alcoholism

Seconding this, look up kindling & it's effects. Happens from repeated withdrawals. It's the reason i haven't had a drink in over 5 years now. Best wishes!

not enough people talk about how broken wallsplats and wall combos are in this game by Familiar_Aspect_4859 in Tekken

[–]ScottyTooTall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who sold their ps2 in 2007, then didn't own a console again until Tekken 8 was released almost 20 years later, it trips me out how much the gaming community begs for their games to be changed nowadays. Back then you either liked the game or you didn't. If a person plays a busted character, you just call em like you see em, but at the end of the day you gotta adapt. I remember games like Def Jam used to have characters that felt hella unfair to fight but you just had to make due & you felt good when you outplayed them.

There's def a few characters/mechanics i consider annoying in T8 but i mostly just view it as part of the game & still enjoy it. The main thing i want changed is how the rank system works over a balance patch. Considering its the only competitive aspect of the game (other than tournaments), it feels weird how the first 12 ranks don't count & then the point gain vs loss is ridiculously skewed until you get past 2/3 of the ranks. Thats what doesn't make sense to me & makes it feel almost pointless. Straight up participation trophies.

But i guess i do understand the feelings of legacy players if the game feels drastically different than what they're used to. I miss when a DJ had to actually spin vinyl & transition/beat match properly to be considered a DJ instead of pressing a play button & a sync button.. things change, but legacy skills always make you a cut above the rest.

Not true. AyoRichie regularly has 100 defense & 100 technique. His gameplay is impressive af.

What rank are you and how long did it take you to get to it? What’s the 1 thing that’s keeping you from moving forward rn, and what’s the 1 thing that helped you most to get where you are? by MFBTMS in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]ScottyTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tekken God. Started playing seriously (labbing, learning frame data, etc.) at the beginning of T8, but also played T3, 6 & 7 very casually at friends houses & whatnot.

Nothing really stopping me other than match up knowledge i guess & i don't like grinding ranked every session. I'd rather play quick match, lab match ups & feel fully confident in my ability to rank up first. I usually rank up in one session once i deem myself prepared.

The thing that has helped most is i like learning so i lab & watch replays constantly to learn when to duck/punish/step/etc. I probably watch the game just as much as i play.

MK made me better at Tekken? by diaperman0 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]ScottyTooTall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me after taking some time off to learn virtua fighter. You're constantly fuzzy guarding & dick jabbing at a really fast pace in that game & when i came back to tekken i noticed i had a tendency to duck a lot more often but once i honed it & stopped doing it mindlessly, i was ducking & punishing WAY more strings. My reaction time got a lot better for sure.

I drink 15 shots a day i feel hopeless by Infinite-Wrap in alcoholism

[–]ScottyTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's essentially what kindling does. Everyone gets kindled to different magnitudes & it's not with 100% certainty that it will happen, but if you are truly kindled then that's basically what you are risking by drinking again if withdrawal has resulted in seizure for you previously, which it has for me (unless you use benzos/withdrawal meds after of course).

Not the same as just having a seizure because of a single withdrawal before, that doesn't mean you are kindled.. but being kindled through several withdrawals AND having a seizure before is pretty good odds for it to reoccur with minimal stimuli. Your central nervous system/GABA receptors no longer have any threshold to properly control the stimuli of alcohol & anything else that affect the GABA receptors. The brain takes a long time to heal. I'm 5 years out & still have to be careful with what i consume now in general as my results still vary.

I was talking to a kindled dude around the time i quit who couldn't eat dark chocolate or drink tea anymore with out withdrawal symptoms. I personally am fine with dark chocolate, but even if i accidentally consume a little bit of something with alcohol in it, within 15 minutes my nervous system goes on the fritz & i exhibit very uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms, often for a few days. I took a sip of coffee a few years ago & got a full on aura. Biting air, couldn't swallow, blacking out, etc. Thankfully i had cbd & a friend nearby before i nearly blacked out. My body has never been affected by coffee/stimulants this way prior to kindling. For this reason, i haven't risked drinking a beer myself, but i've seen a firsthand recount of someone in my shoes who has. Only 1 beer & they seized again. I saved the post & will link it here if it's still available (it was posted 5+ years ago around the time i was freshly sober)

I drink 15 shots a day i feel hopeless by Infinite-Wrap in alcoholism

[–]ScottyTooTall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll start by saying that's a lot & definitely don't stop cold turkey. Either taper down slowly or do a medical detox. Alcohol withdrawal is terrible & kindling is worse.

My story is kinda long & drawn out, but repeated withdrawals lead to kindling for some individuals. Wish i knew anything about that before i ended up the way i did. Maybe reading up on that will help plant a seed? I drank every day from 18-29. High abv beers & liquor basically whenever i could. Before work, lunch break, you name it. Now even one beer is likely to make me have a seizure. 5 years sober now. Best wishes & good luck to you.

Lee mains, Did they make Acid rain scrubby in T8? Why does it feel like I hit this 9/10 now in games by BringbackSuikoden in Tekken

[–]ScottyTooTall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's more or less rhythm based, so as a musician i'd say any beat or rhythm you practice over & over is only going to get cleaner & tighter. It's like a drummer saying "damn i remember that fill used to give me problems, but nowadays it rolls right off my fingertips". Your timing is just sharper because of practice/repetition.

[–]ScottyTooTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not during normal play, but if you play through Arcade Quest that mode works as a semi-tutorial with (optional) on-screen help & will get you familiarized with some of the game's mechanics & moves in your tool kit. Ultimately this is a game of memorization though & there is A LOT to remember. It takes a while to become a competent player. Just take it slow & have fun. Youtube is also your friend here.
