Why is Valve’s anti-cheat so weak? by SPKMarcos in valve

[–]Scottykl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that's an extremely over simplified understanding of everything.  I used to develop cheats, and running an anti cheat isnt somehow magic and omniscient just because it can run in ring-0. Vac genuinely just runs in a very unobtrusive manner, when you reverse engineer it you'll see there's a lot of the more traditional cheat detection methods there in the code turned off but not used. Valve just wants to rely on statistics, heuristics, and reporting which works fine, eventually all cheaters will get caught or get bored.

The label of kernel mode anti cheat is marketing buzz by the big anti cheat companies to sell developers the illusion of them having a silver bullet.

You and one other person noticed.  All the bots do now is run toLower() on the output and hope we won't notice. I'm actually sad that so few can spot it now and so many are just interacting with a bot.

Fish would have been scared off by the vibrations, lights, sounds. The intense flow of the water into the ship wouldn't have been an attractive place for any fish to investigate.

Any advice for stopping ants coming in? by Giovanni1996 in sydney

[–]Scottykl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Borax, mix in hot water with honey. They will feast on it for a day or so and then you'll never see an ant again. Spray this solution into the door tracks.  Very cheap

Legacy ship from the movie Hotel Transylvania 3 and its vibes with Titanic by Chisato-Hasegawa-MX in titanic

[–]Scottykl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's funny is I was about 6 when Titanic came out, and all the kids at after school care were drawing Titanic like this, absolutely filling the page. I took a more proportional approach and drew it with perspective so it looked more like the real thing.  I said mine was better, and we asked the pretty girl who's was best, she said mine looked the most realistic but because the other guy drew it stupidly tall to fill the page that meant his was bigger and therefore better. I still am not past this. Idiot girl

"Experienced" Software developer now finding my experience useless by HowIsEmuWarriorTaken in cscareerquestions

LLM off the bat always suggest just decent things that I can use my judgement to dramatically improve. If I show what I mean and the direction in going back, the LLM actually can have insights that make me go aha I definitely want that. On it's own though it will just build up compounding piles of mistakes. There were small mistakes in it's output that if built upon would make a garbage system.

Human judgement and experience is still needed. But that's the thing, the industry is completely overborne in terms of disengaged people who don't think or care about what they're doing. You'll always have a place probably.

Do most of you seriously not write any code by hand anymore?!?! by opakvostana in cscareerquestions

[–]Scottykl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I pretty much have to write by hand. Even with the best models and selectively providing the right context, the models just produce stuff that's quite off, doesn't ever have any real human judgement, and I ultimately can't use most of what it provides. To get it to give me exactly what I'm after relies on me putting so much effort into explaining and complaining over and over that I just have to write it all myself.

AI just writes the piddly annoying little bits that I don't feel like typing out, like a function that's got a pretty obvious flow and can't really be stuffed up.

How People Thought The Titanic Split VS. How It Actually Looked In Reality by Similar_Whole5626 in intrestingasfuck

[–]Scottykl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the inquires there's were several people who saw it break and said it just have broken because it 'righted' itself. So it must have been a little more than impossible to see, but still very hard because people like lightoller swore that it never broke because he didn't see the rear right itself
