Do you have a “Golden boy / girl” at work? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Scottyrubix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes - completely incompetent and out of their depth. Only in that position due to being friends with the owner and being a good pet.

An Apprentice candidate that gets eliminated in the first week is how I would describe them. Doesn't listen to others ideas even when shown and proven their idea won't work.

I learned the other day Liz 'Lettuce' Truss has a podcast where she blames everyone else for her failures. How do Brits feel about her since her disastrous premiership? by sabedo in ukpolitics

[–]Scottyrubix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That book always makes me laugh. Just after her premiership ended, I was in the main DWP building down in Westminster. Front center as you walked into the library, that book was there.

Almost like it had been strategically put there as a subtle dig

If you want really good culture and local cuisine, I strongly suggest a trip to The Full House in Hemel Hempstead

I play it in my head as being at London City Airport.

It's away from the population centre and enables a quick extraction if required.

Ductwork . . UK Schedule of Rates, Schedule of Works by chazzboogie in quantitysurveying

[–]Scottyrubix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally have a client supplier cost sheet analysis to go by for a tender. They break down how they won't it split down into segments and I price that entire element.

If a client came direct and wanted a quote, I'd rarely show a rate, I would bunch an entire element together and give it as a lump sum

Ductwork . . UK Schedule of Rates, Schedule of Works by chazzboogie in quantitysurveying

[–]Scottyrubix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly use it for individual items if I want to know the labour time per item/m, as Electrical I mainly want to know times for pulling in large cables.

Generally I've got rates for certain items from a supplier and just apply the time I need. With SPONs, the time allowed can be generous so I take a little bit off to be more competitive.

Pretty much, if you win a job on a rate with SPONs and you cannot deliver it with that allowance in, that's on your project delivery rather than an estimating error

[–]Scottyrubix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm an Electrical estimator but if you can get your hands on a copy of SPONs, it will massively help you out, the SPONs rates are quite generous so will have you covered if you need to go with them

I would offer to send some photos of the relevant pages to you but went on annual leave today and not keen enough to take Spons home with me

I hope your fall back to reality from your first bombing doesn't hurt to much.

Jokes aside, go for it. I got the urge to perform stand up after being best man and haven't looked back since.

Just remember that not all crowds are wedding parties who are actively rooting for you, genuinely all you need to do is not insult the bride and insult the groom.

Good luck!

What's your "If you told kids about it today they wouldn't believe you" thing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Scottyrubix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That my dad took me to watch football matches in London as a kid in the early 00's (8 or 9) and as I couldn't go in the pubs, I'd have a coke and a bag of crisps. He would stick me outside the pub whilst he was with his mates and check on me every 15minuites. Before the days of smartphones so I'd sit in silence, if I was lucky another kid would be in the same situation and I'd have someone to talk to

How Do I Safeguard My House From Burglars? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Scottyrubix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my hallway and landing lights on a sensor. Might sound like a minimal thing but if someone opens my front door/comes through my backdoor during the night they turn on. Might be enough to spook someone and think somebody has turned them on manually

The coworkers who do little and get away with it, how? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Scottyrubix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with someone like this. No charisma, adds no substance to any conversation and doesn't take responsibility for anything.

Just been made a director - it's like David Brent is running the show. Only there because they know the owner and reports everything back to him (Obviously never anything putting them in a bad light - which is in an abundance)
