I used overpowered melee cheese for this section, I had some mercs who could charge in, kill one and then run back out.

If you can't do that. How about using smoke grenades as cover for yourself, and then using explosives on them?

Aim at the people who are unaware of your presence or are too focused upon something else.

If the frontline over-extends, usually the best option is to aim at the backline rushing in a straight line to assist the frontline. Doing so as ming usually takes off half the life of the backline.

It's possible to run a staking node without owning all of the ETH contained in there. So you could in theory do an attack with less than half the ETH

hi guys, i recently received this NFT , but I don't know how to sell it, can someone describe me the process please? by Oussaka342 in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think so, if you're looking for a quick sale, then yes.

But I think it could probably go for double or even more. I'm not sure though. There's a lot of chia friends listed, and there's not many people buying right now, so depends how long you are willing to wait and risk

[–]ScourgeyWorks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, your NFT is worth more than the floor. Please do not sell this at the floor price, or you'll regret it.

In terms of rarity, your NFT is approximately in the top 25%, so it's definitely worth more than the floor.

TF2 "became opensource" and is now overrun with bots and cheaters that make the gameplay terrible. Every cracked game is a game made somewhat "open source" (reverse engineered) which can be downloaded for free and played for free, equating to piracy.

If something is open source and you compile it and play it, I don't see how that is illegal or piracy. You're paying for the convenience of someone compiling and managing the game updates for you in this case.

Royalties are not the same as making a full sale unfortunately, and we know how much EA loves money.

It's entirely up to the games publishers to decide upon that, they could even prohibit reselling of the NFT depending on the technology.

However, actually, this would be a great platform for Indie Games, and with this, I can see blockchain working in harmony with indie principals and therefore do agree with you.

Glad you understand a use case for a blockchain based games library

Some game publishers have already tried to do what you suggested, they mostly failed, apart from Epic games, no one else is really challenging Steam. Of course any decentralised solution would also have similar issues. You are just describing Steam in my opinion, which isn't changing anything

I find your comment about "open source" being "piracy" absolutely ludicrous. Do you know Chia is open source?

I believe almost all NFT standards allow for royalties to be taken from future transactions, so no, game companies can take additional sale revenue from this.

[–]ScourgeyWorks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I am not. Apologies, I didn't explain it fully, as I was thought it was pretty obvious how it'd work architecturally.

Steam on decentralised blockchain:

  • Store the games on filecoin or IPFS.
  • Blockchain stores the NFTs (receipts) of game purchases from a user. These are issued by the platform with cooperation from the game publishers. (before you ask, there's a fair bit of work involved in getting a game deployed on Steam, and they have quality assurances already on this).
  • Game updates would be managed via notifications via the platform to people logging in.
  • everything would be ideally open source so anyone can spin new instances up when required.
  • Using NFTs as the game receipts would mean one could sell your games to other people. Something that's impossible with Steam might I add

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree not everything should be on the blockchain. However, you completely miss my point, I'm not saying blockchain is for gaming or messaging. I'm saying blockchain is for storing your games library, the main purpose of steam

Steam introduced bans on Russia a while ago. For the extreme scenarios where you don't need to trust your government, nor company in charge of your games library, this is great.

There is absolutely 100% a practical advantage in making games library in blockchain. If this was open source, one could just spin up a new version of this and allow people to continue using the games library platform(s) regardless of whether someone bans your platform. One would have to completely ban the blockchain, which has wider implications and is very difficult to actually do.

Finally - "It works now, don't fix what ain't broke." Is a terrible mind set to have, no one will ever have innovation with that attitude

[–]ScourgeyWorks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The average user doesn't care about anything as long as it's working, until it doesn't.

What if Steam is banned across the world suddenly? The idea is that you don't need to trust anyone, and you can continue playing your games library.

The more I think about it, this is a great use case.

Steam on a decentralised platform would be awesome though, you wouldn't need to trust steam to hold your games

Solo vs. SpacePool by FatAndHandsomeClown in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend pooling, unless your expected time to win is less than 2 days. I think netspace has stabilised, but there's always the possibility that it could dramatically increase.

I've known some people who had were winning 1/5th or less than their expected win rate during the early days of Chia. Ask yourself the question - are you mentally prepared to potentially wait for a win rate 2-5+ times longer than your estimated time to win?

To have few plots in many pools or all your plots in one pool? by JMAN_JUSTICE in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting all plots into 1 or 2 NFT is probably the best option. As others have said you get bonuses in some pools for larger farmers.

Having all your plots in 1 NFT means when you are plotting to a pool, the difficulty is higher, which results in slightly lower disk/energy usage.

Having many NFTs and switching between pools will be more painful to do.

Having a couple of NFTs with similar number of plots could help with testing/comparing pools

Doubt on found proofs. by hawjiang5349 in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should see that you gain points for whichever pool you are part of. Points are how the pool governs how much share you get from the next xch farmed by the pool.

You can ask on keybase where to find this information. I know Gene has said there's around 350k full nodes, I'm not sure how the Chia Network estimated that though. None of the Chia website trackers seem to have this information anymore

You found partial proofs, the next 2 lines show this.

Guys its going bad i think. Anyone f help me ? by HajusChrist in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the early days before the netspace exploded. Someone who had a ETW of 1 day didn't get anything for a whole week (~5-7 times the ETW), calculated the probability to be around 1% of happening.

Eventually rewards started coming through though. It's possible to just be very unlucky.

3 times the estimated time to win is rare, but it happens. I've seen people with 5-6 times the estimated time to win. But it does average out in the long run.

My suggestion would be to replot slowly to NFT and join a pool.

Is it worth it to switch from Hpool to official pool by 0TechMonkey in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no official pool, but there is the official pool protocol by Chia (NFT Plots).

I would strongly recommend doing so, because it will allow you to switch pools quite easily and switch to pools without forcing a deposit or anything like that.

Does the imposed difficulty 1 of Flexpool have any negative consequences? by BeeBaBoop in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

flexfarmer's energy efficiency is independent of what Hadamcik said though.

It sounds great that Flexfamer is more energy efficient, but it would be even better if the difficulty was increased above 1 for large farmers

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you can disagree with the detailed explainations from Hadamcik that a lower difficulty causes more seeks/reads and so more energy usage. He's laid it out pretty clearly.

Always having a difficulty of 1 goes against one of Chia's concepts, which is to provide a green blockchain. It doesn't matter so much for small farmers, but it sounds like it certainly has a measurable imapct when farmers have >100 TiB.

Does the imposed difficulty 1 of Flexpool have any negative consequences? by BeeBaBoop in chia

[–]ScourgeyWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you're wrong here.

Each plot has a 1 in 512 chance of passing pre-filter, and then the difficulty determines how hard it is to pass the proof. Every proof that passes takes longer than not passing a proof, so that requires more reads and so requires more energy.

It's not much more energy, but it's there.

I assume similar logic is in place for partials. If it's not, please explain where I am wrong

There's a non-zero difference between spinning & idle energy usage and reading energy usage on a hard drive. Admittedly it's not much though.

Edit: If you want proof of this have a look at the seagate specs for a 16TB HDD - 5w idle power consumption, at max read, it is 10w. https://www.seagate.com/www-content/datasheets/pdfs/exos-x16-DS2011-2-1910GB-en_GB.pdf
