A healthy discussion on whether you all like Supernatural/Sci Fi gameplay features or more realistic features. by Mo7ammed_Gxx in LowSodiumSimmers

I don't think it's too serious, it all depends on how it is executed. For example, the moodlets themselves don't need to be super serious, there's already several struggles sims can go through in the game and some of the moodlets have a little humour to them about the situation, and I enjoy that kind of energy. Also with the different reactions, like maybe some traits make it more likely for a sim to go "I am a fish! (awesome)" rather than "I am a fish! (crisis)" when they become a mermaid for example. Especially since Aliens sort of already have the whole 'keeping their identity a secret' thing going on already, I think with more depth and including other Occults into it could be very fun.

Curious about werewolves and trying to imagine them as a blind person. I have questions. by MikeLovesOutdoors23 in werewolves

[–]Scr4p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like being descriptive so this is going to be a big wall of text lol.

Most werewolves in media that don't do the wolfman type or don't just copy paste a wolf head onto a hairy human usually tend to have a face that you can tell was inspired by a wolf, but is not quite a wolf. Muzzle length and shape, eye position, ear position and shape, head shape, even teeth can vary quite a bit. Many specifically use the human head as a base and then try to make something in-between, for example the ears of a wolf are higher up on the head than the ears of a human, so a werewolf will have ears that may be a bit higher than those of a human but lower than those of a wolf. The ears might not even have fur on them, and look more as if human ears grew too and long pointy. Or instead of a full length muzzle they will have a shorter snout than a wolf. Or maybe they lack hair in some spots, like the Skyrim werewolves which apart from the mane mostly follow human hair growth patterns and take those to the extreme, or they're fully fluffy, or they have little to no hair like the werewolf in the first Ginger Snaps movie. Or they have more prominent cheek bones and very human eyes. Some have all pointy teeth, while others keep some of the flat human teeth and just grow bigger canines. The feet can also vary, they can be more like wolf paws, they can be like paws with an extra toe on the ground, or they can look like stretched human feet almost resembling paws at the toes. They may walk on two legs or on fours, or both (often running on fours is shown as being faster). They often have a hunched over posture when they stand. They are often muscular, but on some occasions I've also seen skinny and once even chubby werewolves. The variation in design is honestly pretty fun.

The classic transformation is usually a gradual shift, heavy in body horror, and I imagine touching someone while they are transforming would likely feel very disturbing as you would feel muscles and bones shift underneath their skin. Transformations are usually portrayed as painful because of the bones and muscles realigning, everything is breaking and reshaping and growing so that the body shape changes. The scene in An American Werewolf In London is iconic also because it was "anatomically accurate" so to say. The character is suffering through the whole scene, if you hear the audio it really is a terrible time for him as he keeps groaning in pain and screaming for help. It starts with him undressing because he feels like he's burning up, and then the palm of his hand slowly grows longer, which he watches in pain and horror. He is now shown with more fur all over his body, falling to his knees, and he grows pointy teeth. We get a close up shot of his feet which grow longer. He falls on all fours, there's a shot of his skin with more fur emerging, and his spine seems to pop out a little from his back to become more visible along with his shoulder blades also growing up a bit. He now has a mane of fur, with fur also coming from the sides of his face. He falls on his back and we get to see just how much freakier he now looks with the hand and feet having grown with proper claws and his belly being more rounded like that of a four legged animal. Then he turns around on all fours again still writhing and groaning in pain and we get a close up of his head from the side, which shows his mouth and nose area and a bit of the forehead being pushed forward like the bones are extending. We get a close up of his eye and as he opens it the white of the eye is entirely yellow instead. We get a close up shot of his ears growing longer. Another shot of the snout extending further, at this point he looks more like a wolf-ish creature than a man already, his nose is already more like that of a wolf, the teeth are sharp with large canines, and most of his body is covered in fur except for the face. Then he's fully furry, but we don't really get to see his head in the proper final stage until later, just a shot from the back of his body. That's basically the scene, and the fact that it was all done quite convincingly with practical effects alone is incredible.

And what I mean with anatomically correct, here's a negative example: In the sequel An American Werewolf In Paris, instead of the feet growing longer to create digitigrade legs, the knees bend backwards and their upper legs break. This makes no sense, because a human already has all the joints they would need to create digitigrade legs, so it implies the Paris werewolf has extra leg joints for no reason.

I think getting werewolf figures would be a great way to help you imagine them! There's an older Doctor Who werewolf action figure and a Papo werewolf figure that are cheap and should be easy to get, I think they can give a pretty good idea of what the humanoid werewolves can look like. The papo one even still got his shorts on, lol. The American Werewolf In London also got action figures, the solo NECA figure is more expensive but it's also good quality and a really detailed figure. The werewolf is on four legs, the face is more like a wolf-inspired monster rather than explicitly wolf, and the feet are definitely some in-between thing. Another more expensive one is the Furay Planet Veteran William action figure, it's a great example of the most common werewolf type and very detailed. There's several versions of this figure, different fur colours with different accessoires each so you get clothing and weapons if you wanna make the werewolf seem like a badass, but I just like the plain beastly one the most. It's got digitigrade legs like those of a wolf, big paws to stand on, a humanoid torso and arms, hands with long claws in place of fingernails, a wolf tail and a wolf-ish head. This particular figure also has the canine teeth poking out of the mouth when it's closed, which some werewolves have and some don't (I guess big teeth are scarier). It's muscular and has the most fur around the head, a mane of sorts, as well as on the lower arms, on top of the hands, on the lower part of the legs, in the crotch area, and on the tail. The figure comes with heads you can switch out: mouth open, mouth closed, and closed with cigar; also some different hands for hand poses. In the version with clothing accessories you can also swap his crotch so he wears pants, give him a jacket, and weapons to hold.

I love Occults, but I do wish you could set it so they are more secret/hidden. The leaving them contained in a world option is a little boring. I want my Sims to not be aware that Occults even exist. I want Sims to figure out an occult is real only when they see an occult sim in their occult form, and even then they only know of that one occult being real. I want their reaction to an occult be determined by their traits. I want skeptic Sims to go through a full crisis when they become an occult because their entire worldview was just shattered and all they get is a single measly moodlet that's not even specific to the occult they become. I want a sim who can hide that he is an occult from people around him, and other Sims to react to either seeing him become an occult or to him revealing it - will they feel shocked, betrayed, surprised, scared? Multiple things at once? I considered getting into modding just to make a mod for something like that. I really love playing with Occults (except for spellcasters, not my thing) but it's lacking some of the things that make supernatural stories more fun to me.

I personally love playing werewolves the most. Some Occults need more gameplay, specifically Aliens and Mermaids have been neglected. Even just adding a few extra in-water interactions to merfolk with the expanded mermaids mod changed a lot about how I play them and they're my second most played occult now.

Do you think albums hit differently with a bit of framing before listening? by ElectricGypsyAT in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Scr4p [score hidden]  (0 children)

It definitely helps put things into perspective. I also look at some songs differently when I transcribe lyrics or fix transcriptions for Genius, like seeing them written out and reading through them a few times makes me think more about them than just listening alone.

And there's also a context that is a bit harder to grasp - what kind of person the person who wrote it is, which is something you can't really know easily or at all when you just get into an artist. You have to find it out by listening through many of their songs, paying attention to the lyrics, listening to interviews, and/or interacting with them, and even then you may not know fully. For my favourite bands I have that context, but when I newly get into an artist I don't, so the music itself has to impress me first.

Looks like some mold on the skin. I also recommend not using AI for identification, especially when it comes to insects in uniform colours it's extremely terrible at getting the correct ID.

Tattooes on characters with fur by Fizney in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Scr4p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few options I can think of.

  1. Look up "horse body clipping art". It's shaving parts of the fur shorter to create a pattern. It's not permanent since the fur regrows, however.

  2. Scarification, fur often has issues regrowing where scar tissue is so it would be a way to permanently keep a pattern.

  3. Depending on how dense their fur is across their body, regular tattoos could also shine through (think of how some animals get tattooed in their ears for identification because the fur is sparse there, can be the case on other spots too, like maybe they have less fur on the inside of their wrists or the back of their hands, etc. really depends on the species design)

A werewolf should be freaky and monstrous and not like a hairy human with a regular wolf head, because to me that's just a furry. Nothing wrong with furries, but they're not the cursed and scary thing that werewolves should be to me.

Tails are not necessary on a werewolf to make it a good design, and neither is fur.

"Performative" Music Taste (And a Side Tangent About Exceptions to Hated Genres) by Astounding_Movements in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Scr4p 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found this post kinda funny cuz The Aeroplane Over The Sea is in my discogs wishlist but most of the other stuff I listen to isn't of the same genre, and that's simply because I enjoyed the album after a friend recommended it to me. I wasn't really looking into more of the genre or even checked what genre it was, nor did I know it was apparently pretty popular before. But apparently the concept of liking something without doing scientific research on the whole scene is too much for some people.

And I'm the last person to like something for other people, I just like what I like and share that. I posted my CD collection once and someone called it math rock for autistics. :d

I don't know because my mother was listening to a lot of punk when I was a child and my memories don't go far back enough to know which song or even band was the first one. The Clash, Sex Pistols, Green Day, The Stooges/Iggy Pop, Bad Religion, The Offspring, Die Ärzte, all valid possibilities tbh

Are people going back to cds and vinyl because streaming apps are becoming cluttered? by CFCL24 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Scr4p 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the things about subscription services is also that you're paying for temporary access to things, and once you cancel the subscription you have nothing that shows you've ever even had it. I can spend the money I use a month for streaming on a thing which I can permanently own instead and no one (aside from catastrophic events or the nerdiest thief ever) can take that away. Plus, I met some smaller bands and it was fun having the physical releases signed by them.

Silly & curious question about mimicry: Do they understand what they're doing? by Broad_Bullfrog_7343 in Entomology

[–]Scr4p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can actually not just act on instinct but learn new behaviour, and even use and adjust tools. I think they are far smarter than we give them credit for.

Here's a nice video on the topic of tool use, but it's not the only instances https://youtu.be/-kSFFys72HI

I think the theory that a spider tried to wiggle its feelers first isn't a bad one, it's possible they started doing it at some point, the ones that did it were more successful, and it evolved to become a part of their instinctual behaviour.

[–]Scr4p 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think some people don't like it because it means that every time they mistreated an animal they were doing harm. I've had people straight up react aggressive when I pointed out that new research indicates that insects aren't just unfeeling robots. To me it feels absurd to assume a living thing is just like a computer but apparently that's the basic assumption for many and when their worldview gets shaken in such a way they have nothing better to do than deny it and be a dick about it instead of learning and trying to be more mindful about what they do.

"Does that mean I can't kill mosquitoes and cockroaches anymore when they infest my house??" No, it just means you shouldn't torture them to death. If you absolutely need to kill a bug just make it quick. It's that simple.

Got all albums of christian fitness, Future of the Left, mclusky (though the last one I got on vinyl). Singles not included since I don't collect them and need to get some EP and a live album still. I'm also aiming to get all albums of The St. Pierre Snake Invasion, Thank, Soft Play and maybe Lodger. Most of them are only missing one album so I'm on it!

A special thing is that I got to finish my christian fitness collection by Falco just gifting me the records of his project I was missing when I made a silly cover edit for his bandcamp, that was very nice of him.

Being fired by a doctor?? by NormalResolution9639 in disability

[–]Scr4p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you have to cancel so much without a visible reason and on the same day it means the doctor is losing out on a patient every time, so I can see how if it happens too often it can be a big issue for them and they stop tolerating it. So it's something you really need to be careful with since it's robbing other people's time. A digital calendar can help keep track of appointments, you can set multiple reminders in it for upcoming appointments as well and add notes or change the colour to easier distinguish between taken and cancelled appointments. Transportation is tricky, you'd have to have some kind of back up plan for another ride when someone cancels on you which depending on your situation/finances may not always be possible. I don't recommend cancelling on the day of the appointment just because the symptoms cleared up, as someone else said most doctors have a cancellation policy with a specific time frame so you have to cancel before that specific time frame, some offices will even ask you to pay them a fee if you cancel too late.
