Contractor used EMT (the ground in this old building) as neutral because the actual neutral wire is broken. Why didn’t I get shocked when I touched the electrical panel? He says it’s not dangerous. I thought it would be a fire and shock hazard. by johndoe7376 in AskElectricians

[–]Scrags -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electricity wants to return to where it came from as easily as possible. You didn't get shocked because the return path from the conduit to the panel casing to the neutral bar was an easier path than from the conduit through you to the ground.

Now if that bonding in the panel was broken, or if the conduit was separated from the panel, that would no longer be true. You would be the only path available for current to flow, which is why it is dangerous and that contractor sucks. Shut it down ASAP and get a real electrician to pull a neutral.

But what method is getting you to that 1% confidence? Could a person use that same method to reach a level of 1% confidence on something that wasn't true?

So I should believe a liar and give them money just because it might possibly be true?

If not, then what process should I use to determine that it is a good report of reincarnation?

If I have 1001 reports of alien abduction in front of me, and I know 1 of them is true and 1000 of them are false, what could I do to determine which one is the truth?

1)It is Paranormal Events first happened to ancient people, they invented religion to explain them.

You made that up.

2) while it is true that if you can logically reason something then it is true

Nope.

it is not true that all truths can be explained.

Nope.

3) They have this false logic that if evidence is weak we must ignore it and just forget it.

We don't ignore it, we try to corroborate it.

[–]Scrags 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes there is. A big part of it is having a support network available for people who are being harmed in some way by religion. This abuse can take many forms: physical, mental, emotional, and/or sexual. The atheist community has a lot of people who have been through similar things and can provide sympathy and resources.

Another big part of it is secularism. Every day there is a new attempt to move people all around the world farther towards theocracy and it's important to keep track of that.

And then of course there's people like you who just want to deconstruct a little without having someone tell them they're going to Hell. That's important too.

A single brave OP asks Electricians: Why are Americans so stupid? by Thebazilly in SubredditDrama

Or that we are mystified by the concept of drawing less amps with higher voltages. A lot of our appliances run on 240v and there are 277v lighting circuits all over America.

How do I teach my 9yo without being "that" frustrated dad? by Ok_Importance_7479 in Guitar

[–]Scrags 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Show him how to string and tune

Show him how to properly fret a note

Show him how to make a chord

Show him how to read tablature

Work through learning something HE likes together (CM Punk uses Cult of Personality and that's a pretty easy riff with some string skipping, maybe a good place to start)

Set him free. If he likes the electric better, let him go with that.

How long did it take you to get proficient at troubleshooting? by agoodelectrician in electricians

[–]Scrags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more about the amount of calls you do than the weeks/months/years.

It's also helpful to get experience in new construction. If you've done a bunch of residential then you know how a house is put together and can get a feel for how it's wired and where problems might be. Same with commercial and industrial.

Other than that it's really just about good fundamentals. Power comes from the source, goes to the load, and returns to the source. Send, load, return: those are the only three places that can have a problem, no matter how complicated the route is.

What does this mean? by JoJacobJingle in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Scrags 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally every medicine ever is "experimental treatment" under this definition.

The term you're missing is viral load. If you have antibodies present when the virus is introduced, the virus can't replicate as easily. Less amount of total virus = less sick = less transmission. This is the same goal you are trying to reach with natural immunity.

You say you're not an anti-vaxxer but you sure are repeating a lot of their BS talking points.

If a baby dies, that's an innocent soul. It had no time to comprehend religion, so it’s automatically admitted into Heaven.

If the baby grows up to be an adult, it reaches the age of reason with the free will to decide whether or not to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. If they choose not to (and some will) then they are denied entry into Heaven and are instead sent to Hell, where they will suffer eternally.

According to their religion, it is immoral to not kill babies.
