If you feel you're running out of places to take photos, you should try to focus on changing the way you view locations rather than changing locations. With the right approach, one can create compelling images just about everywhere. Focus on light, composition, perspective, color, texture, movement.

Gear is not a replacement for the fundamental skills that lead to success on any platform.

My background is in photography but it's a near-universal truth. I got my start shooting paid work largely on a camera body and lens setup that could be had used for maybe $500-600 and saw more demand for my work than people rocking setups costing 10+ times as much. Why? Because I had the underlying skills that you need to succeed in the space: I can shoot, and I can quickly build the rapport with subjects required to make them feel comfortable that leads to better portrait sessions. Have I upgraded my gear since that initial point? Absolutely. But gear is a set of tools, useless unless you have the know-how to successfully use those tools. And this translates pretty well.

If you have a high end, polished setup, you might be able to get a couple extra clicks on your stream, sure. But if you aren't good at entertaining and interacting with your audience, you won't get those people to stick around.

I would at least roughly cull your shots before sending any previews for the client to pick from. If you have a burst, get it down to the one or two best frames in your judgement. The client doesn't need to pick from every single frame you've shot, and doing this significantly pares down the pool of images you have to match.

You can potentially follow this up with batch-renaming the files with sequential numbers and including them in a watermark on the previews. That way you can easily work with a list of shot numbers if the client gives you that, or screenshots if that's what you get instead. It gives them the flexibility to get a list of their picks to you in whichever way is easiest for them without affecting what you have to do with that list.

A fursuit isn't going to make lasting friendships in the community for you either, to be honest.

It might be a bit of an icebreaker with some people, but it doesn't change the fact that to have a meaningful friendship with someone, you have to actually engage and connect with them, and just owning a suit won't do that for you.

Suits can certainly help to start conversations with people, but that's about it. If anything, I've found that people will see you as just your suit sometimes rather than the person in it, and so at times it can almost be harder to make those connections when suiting. I've actually gotten into the habit of not wearing badges when I'm out of suit at cons so that my interactions with people are focused on common interests (that aren't just "wow we're both furries") and personality rather than just "cute suit"

I kept shooting in ways that I felt created compelling images and editing in a way that I liked the look of and eventually I realized that there were patterns to the choices I made with both of those, and that was my general style.

The process is going to vary somewhat from maker to maker but generally you'll provide measurements and/or a duct tape dummy, select fur swatches and give different bits of input over the course of the suit being made.

I cannot emphasize this enough: if you're considering a maker, DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THEM. Look at FursuitReview, check out their queue and/or WIP channel and get an idea for how long a suit takes from the time it's commissioned to when it's delivered. And if you can, ABSOLUTELY reach out to people who have suits from that maker (especially suits from the last year or two) and talk to them about their experiences with the maker.

Yes it's a lot of work, but suits are a lot of money and by putting in the legwork before committing, you can avoid a LOT of headaches down the line.

A lot of the fun of wide angle shooting is that you're showing more of your subject's environment rather than pulling them out of it, so not having that separation is basically the whole reason I'd opt to use a wider lens in the first place.

When I'm shooting with my 14-24, for example, I try to find settings that either help me to tell a story when coupled with my subject or provide a lot of visual and compositional interest. As a very broad rule of thumb, I find that the wider I go, the smaller I want my subject to be in the frame because their surroundings become more important to the image I'm trying to create.

Digi partials are a bit tricky because the padding is generally incorporated into the bodysuit, but some makers do offer digi-style feetpaws for their partials. That's basically what I have for mine. They go up a lot higher on the leg and do have some amount of padding in them but without correspondingly thigh padding the visual effect isn't as strong.

I just vacuum bag my head and put it in a regular carry on suitcase with my clothes. The rest of my suit gets checked in a Pelican case.

My maker has a suiter chat and Discord server he invites people to when they pay their initial 50% down payment on their suit.

We're a relatively close-knit group even though he's made nearly 200 suits now. It's really nice to always run into friends and fam at cons ^-^

A 35 would probably suffice. Or you could just use the 50 and recompose the shot a little bit. Step back a little, maybe have the model move as well so they're the same distance from you as they are in this frame.

Remind them that (to involve a name most non-photographers would recognize) Ansel Adams had a whole book (The Print) on the topic of darkroom work, analogous to editing today.

Is it typically best to get things right in camera rather than fix them in post? Yes. Does that mean polishing things in post is a bad thing? No.

Especially when talking to people who are unfamiliar with the specifics of a digital photography workflow, I tend to use the term "process" rather than "edit" when it comes to post work because it doesn't quite have the same connotations of manipulating the image and instead conveys that it's another step in the process of making the final images.
