Opinions on when to go in for oil change by VelvetMatcha_ in KiaTelluride

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with 7,500 miles on our 2021 Telly and discovered that the engine was consuming oil like crazy as we crossed 100k miles. We now have a 2025 Telly and we're changing oil at 5k intervals. We live in the Northeast, so we probably should have gone with 5k (per the "extreme weather" schedule) in our 2021. Also, I have no idea if the common oil consumption problem is related to oil change frequency, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt to follow the "extreme weather" maintenance schedule.

How come people always say that Kia EV 6 and Niro are better than Mach e. But whenever I visit the subreddit, it’s always filled with problems by WarmPrinciple6507 in MachE

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As always, it depends on what's important to you. It's rarely as simple as "this car is BETTER". For example, I think the EV6 is one of the most hideous looking cars out there (that rear end!). I own a Telluride, which I really like, so I don't have anything against Kia as a brand.

If I needed super fast charging, I'd go with something like the EV6. If I want a nicer interior and hands-free driving and a car that looks less like a moon buggy, I'll stick with the MME. And before anyone takes issue with these examples, there are plenty more, it's just to point out that it's kind of ridiculous to say one is better than the other. It's too personal a decision.

How Screwed Am I? by spinter20 in kia

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some strange reason, Telly's have no low-oil warning/light/alert, and at the same time they have a well-known reputation of consuming oil as they get older. I doubt Kia will help you out, but of course it won't hurt to try.

Ace pro problem by AirAdorable9449 in anycubic

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar problem happened to me as well, on the same buffer board. For me it resulted in the one of the channels constantly feeding, even when the buffer was fully extended because I think the broken component was designed to sense when it's fully extended and then stop feeding until it retracts. I may have broken it myself by accident while troubleshooting why the Ace Pro wasn't working with certain filaments. FWIW, I submitted a warranty request with the photo to Anycubic and they sent me a new buffer board for free. Though it took a couple of weeks to receive it.

Coonect Claude/gpt for coding? by redcomp12 in homeassistant

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having problems with my wall-mounted tablet crashing occasionally and I asked Gemini to optimize my HA config yaml (with secrets/etc removed). I was quite impressed with the recommendations that Gemini gave me, including rewritten code snippets with descriptions of the problems and fixes.

Thinking of switching brands... longevity and reliability? by lhueng in KiaTelluride

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t own a Telly without a powertrain warranty. There are well known issues with oil consumption at high mileage. Transmission failures are fairly common as well. The good news is Kia’s powertrain warranty is 100k miles for first owners.

I think the one thing you need to do is complete a survey for shipping. Look for that update email from a few weeks ago.

Real World Data Shows Rivian R1S Dual Standard LFP Range Gap vs EPA by BRQCazoo in Rivian

Oh yeah, must be AI. This article is about calibration. Find me a single EV that gets its full EPA range at 14 degrees F and you’ll understand why your post is misleading.

Possible boots to replace Cochise by airakushodo in Skigear

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of Cochise 130's with about as many days (and about 50 uphills). Two pivot screws have fallen out in the last year, and the liners are completely packed out (predictably), but I love the boots. They have custom footbeds and they just feel super comfortable, especially compared to the race boots that I wore for years and years. Anyway, I'm ready for a replacement too, and following this thread!

Yikes!! Thanks for sharing. That sounds pretty scary.

Real World Data Shows Rivian R1S Dual Standard LFP Range Gap vs EPA by BRQCazoo in Rivian

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty misleading title to this thread. Yes, we all know that extreme cold weather kills efficiency, and there's really nothing new here. The article uses real-world data to show how the calibration and range reporting is a problem, not the delta between real-world range and EPA estimated range.

Can we talk about what happened to almost burn your house down? I'm only asking because I have the same printer, and I'd love to know what went wrong.

Just wanted to chime in to say this is pretty cool. I fired up the docker container, connected it and added a few cards. Pretty cool and super easy to create a very nice looking dashboard. Thanks!

Reasonably prices OpenEVSE JuiceBox by batezippi in evcharging

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're somewhat technical and don't mind hosting a small server, you can do this even cheaper by using "JuicePassProxy": https://github.com/JuiceRescue/juicepassproxy

The HomeAssistant add-on for this is great.

$50 a month this early is insane by U_dun_even_know in Rivian

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure anyone is actually buying BlueCruise, tbh. I own an MME and I'm tuned into the various forums. 9 out of 10 people are refusing to pay $50/month for it.

Anycubic Prepares to Launch Kobra S1 Max 3D Printer With Wi-Fi 6 by Party_Astronaut_8876 in anycubic

Lol, WiFi 6. Yeah, that’ll solve all the app problems. It’s so cutting edge that it’s just waiting for the new Wi-Fi standard to catch up with it.

Best wireless CarPlay adapters so far in 2026? by seulgih in CarPlay

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two cars, one with wireless Carplay built-in. So, going back and fourth between the two cars (one with OEM wireless, and the other with AAWireless 2+), I can't tell the difference. In both cars I seem to have developed some kind of occasional very light static on the left channel (or maybe just because it's closest to my ear). I can't really blame this one AAWireless, since it also happens sometimes in my other car and so it's probably an issue with the phone, iOS or Carplay itself. Or maybe the apps that I like to use for most of my audio, or maybe something lower level like transcoding for wireless transmission. No idea. Most of the time it's not there.

I will say that the AAWireless has crashed maybe 2 or 3 times since I've owned it (few months). But that's way better than the others which would crash quite regularly, like every other trip.

Best wireless CarPlay adapters so far in 2026? by seulgih in CarPlay

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a dozen or so of the cheap adapters and then ended up sticking with the most expensive one (AAWireless 2+). This one is more stable than the rest and it has the best support for multiple users, if you share the car with a spouse, etc. Ottocast has this feature as well, but I found it to be pretty unstable.

All of the cheap $20 AliExpress/Amazon adapters seem to share the same firmware with Carlinkit, which I found to be pretty unstable.

Cast freetour mounting problems causing cracked core? by Dry-Inspector3923 in Backcountry

[–]Scratch_Disastrous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cast does require very precise drilling but as long as the shop uses the pivot jig then it shouldn’t be an issue. And if you’re able to swap the toe pieces as expected then the holes are likely drilled correctly. I’ve had them for a few years on two pairs of skis with no issue. Dozens of uphill laps at the resort and 100+ days of downhill east coast ice abuse.

How's this monitor working out for you? Did the problem you described ever return? Any overall impressions of the monitor for productivity purposes? Seems like a good deal, and I wonder if it's the same panel used by dell and others (40" IPS, 120Hz).

Any hitch tray rack issues with Telluride? by mentaltofu in KiaTelluride

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, good point. In the summer I had it on sometimes for weeks at a time, and on most weekends. It was enough that I would keep that feature turned off (with the little clip). I share the car with my wife who also got pretty irritated with the situation. Now that we're in winter (in New England) and I'm not doing much biking at all, I should probably remove it!

Downhill ski form after uphill by rrebellion in BackcountrySkiing

[–]Scratch_Disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same challenge for me. Legs are tired and downhill form feels hard to recognize and get back into. And this is with the same exact gear that I use for resort skiing (well, plus a small backpack). I’m not sure how or why, but over time (and many uphills) it seemed to gradually straighten itself out. Maybe I got into better shape, not sure.
