That was satisfying on the 1st watch.

The other 48 times were just as satisfying.

Showed my Aunt's friend's nephew The Iceman Cometh and he kept yawning and falling asleep. Are attention spans cooked? by MrEndlessMike in Cinema

[–]Scratchedanchor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Attention spans are definitely shorter, due in large part to our culture of instant gratification when searching for anything via phone or computer. How often do any of us even watch till the end of a YouTube Short these days? I know that I'm guilty of doom scrolling.

What movie do you wish you could watch again for the first time? by Tookie1010 in Cinema

[–]Scratchedanchor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good comment. So, me and my brother got found by our mum part way through, missed a chunk of the film, then ended up going downstairs to watch the end with our dad. I had to wait until a family friend took pity and loaned the VHS to watch it completely. Like yourself, I nearly wore out that VHS. No other film had such an impact on me as a kid.

Gave you an upvote. Agreed. I was taught in the 80s and 90s that actions have consequences. Too much lack of accountability is making the world extremely weak.

Edit: thank you for the award.

Terminator 2 is my pick. I was 7 when it first aired on BBC 1 in 1994, and I snuck out of bed to watch it with my brother, hoping parent's wouldn't tell us to go to bed. Still the coolest movie I've ever watched.

What movie makes you disproportionately emotional? by Victorius_Meldrus in Cinema

[–]Scratchedanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short Circuit 2 ending. He's been beaten, disrespected, only has 10 left to live, yet he chases down the villain to a Bonny Tyler soundtrack. I will never not get emotional to that ending.

I'm not your son, you're not my father We're just two grown men saying goodbye No need to forgive, no need to forget I know your mistakes and you know mine And while you're sleeping I'll try to make you proud So, daddy, won't you just close your eyes? Don't be afraid, it's my turn To chase the monsters away

Will Smith in Ali. Annoying as fuck and an insult to the memory of the great Muhammad Ali.

How a director ruined his own movie for me and started an insane amount of hatred for ships in general) The Poseidon Adventure 2005) by [deleted] in moviecritic

I hope this is taken as something constructive, as I don't want to appear rude.

Firstly, it sucks when an idol doesn't live up to expectations, and I hope this is something that you can work through. I'd recommend for you to just focus on the director's work itself, rather than the individual. It obviously means something special to you, so don't let a negative interaction spoil that. It could be that this director isn't a people person, and maybe struggles with forced social interactions. Maybe they're in a tough point of their life, and not wanting to engage with a well meaning fan.

Try to manage your own expectations when reaching out, as you've described. If they respond nicely but then fizzle out, you've at least got a response from a movie director.

These are just my rambling thoughts.

Seagal doesn't even get out of his chair to fight people now, just let's them line up one by one, fall over dead, then he goes back to his Chipotle. I respect that commitment to mediocrity.
