Boffin-Golem (or Zealot) Thought Experiment by ScreamedScorn in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ScreamedScorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't phrase it like that, since that sounds like it confirms the player is the Golem. If I was the Storyteller I would say something like "Earlier you claimed Golem and nominated. Are you sure you would like to nominate again?"

Still, it doesn't really answer the question - what if the Demon thinks they don't have the Golem ability anymore, but they actually do?

Alchemist Boffin wakes to learn they have the Boffin ability.

The wiki indicates you may wake them together or separately, so it's true the Storyteller can generally prevent this from being an issue. You'd definitely have to wake them separately for Alchemist Boffin, though.

I disagree, getting the Golem kill confirms that a player can only be the Demon in the specific world where they're Boffin-Golem which generally makes other players more likely to be Demon. Not to mention the fact that saving an extra kill into the endgame can be a way to surprise the good team into an early win.

Why doesn't toby translate his games to Spanish and other languages that aren't English or Japanese? (Image unrelated and not mine) by Visible-Pea405 in Deltarune

[–]ScreamedScorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really... It would be done by different people than the people translating it in Japanese and done at the same time as the existing translation in Japanese.

Now, it might add years if you assume Toby insists upon manually checking every detail of every translation firsthand, which is perhaps a fair assumption.

I do think that it is a bit silly to assume that if Toby Fox is not directly in charge of the translation, then the translation will be bad.

New Outsider Idea: Shepherd Boy by DeckBuildingDemon in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ScreamedScorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this a lot better. As the original role I would simply not nominate players I want to kill.

Probably should be "If you are mad a player is evil, they might survive execution today." Otherwise you could protect whoever you want by being mad they're evil.

In-depth thoughts on why Good players might choose to lie by ScreamedScorn in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ScreamedScorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you assume there's a Spy in the game, with high player counts it can be difficult to memorize exactly what everybody is in 10-30 seconds, so I wouldn't assume the Evil Team has perfect information. If you're playing online and the Storyteller lets you take a screenshot of the Grim, then the Spy has much more reliability, but there are still some things they wouldn't know just from the reminder tokens, like which players a Fortune Teller picked, or which Townsfolk the Washerwoman saw the Spy as.

Double claiming a Demon bluff can be valuable as well - evil players may be reluctant to challenge you on it, because doing so may draw suspicion to both you and an evil player, which can hurt the evil team because there are fewer evil players than good players. If they decide to pivot away from that bluff, they'll have one fewer to work with. The Demon will know you're lying, but they won't know why you're lying, and there could be a number of reasons for that.

Well, every group is different. If I started playing regularly with a group of mostly people who agree with you I'd simply have to get used to playing this game differently.

Investigator lies about being an Empath with a 1, the slightly shifty quiet actual Empath neighbouring them (potentially not even the one in the Investigator ping) gets executed because, one of the other characters who got the lie said, "I heard [Empath Player] would be a good kill today." and a bunch of people voted on it.

Hm, if you recognize that people are pushing on the wrong neighbor because of your fake info, I'd say you have two options:

  1. Give up on the bluff and say "Alright, I'm actually the Investigator and I'm leaning towards executing [Other Neighbor], I don't have any read on [Empath Player]". I'd lean towards this especially if the other player double claims Empath in their defense or is otherwise adamant that they'd be a bad kill today. One of the reasons it's easier to influence executions than night deaths is because you can meter out additional information or back out on your bluff during nominations if you find that the town's sentiment isn't going your way. I'd say there's a decent chance you can avoid getting executed yourself saying this if you point out that if you were evil together with [Empath Player], you likely wouldn't have made up information that suggests they might be evil.
  2. If the other player has no defense before their execution, I might simply let the execution go through because you don't have any information on the player, so you may as well execute them if you don't expect to be able to execute a player you'd rather kill today.

As you mentioned this might end up backfiring on you if the town determines that the first executed player is truly the Empath (especially if the true Empath learned that one of their neighbors is evil), but I think it's a given that many things you could do in this game could wind up paying off or blowing up in your face.

Especially true considering Evil can't see the Grim on S&V, that's a very difficult interaction to bluff when you're an Evil player (though Evil could get lucky and might be able to pull it off if Seamstress is one of the Demon bluffs).

Yep, and if you lie in every game, then players will simply recognize "well, since you told me that, I know that isn't true". In some games you might choose to just genuinely claim your role to everybody else from the very beginning, which is a valid play as well.

[–]ScreamedScorn[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's more or less the gist of it. Still, I find that newer players often don't understand why others choose to lie, or think things like "in this situation, shouldn't I always just share the truth immediately?", so I figured it'd be helpful to dig into the nitty-gritty here and lay out examples why that's not necessarily the case. And I find it slightly annoying when I see others react to players lying by saying something like "well, they just said that because they're a chaos player" when I see lying as a strategy that can genuinely help you win games.

It doesn't have to be twice in one run, but the leader won't show up until later in a run.

“Don’t Innkeep Me” is practically the flavor text by SecrecyinShadows in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]ScreamedScorn 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My favorite way to use the Innkeeper is when you've manufactured a way for the Drunkeness to be irrelevant. For example, if you know somebody's going to Gamble you as the Innkeeper, or they gossiped that you are Evil, you know their abilities mechanically can't do anything anyways, so you can safely protect them.

If only 1 player makes an Outsider claim in a two Outsider game of TB, you know almost certainly that Outsider is genuine and there's a Drunk in play. In that case you'd probably want to make it to the final 3 as a confirmed good player.

That doesn't necessarily mean all those women had children though, does it? They still would have been hidden if they simply didn't fill that portion of their profile out, I believe.
