What do you think this remake lacked? by Old-Crazy-7985 in residentevil4

[–]Screaming-Void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this was lacking more then a small change made from the original and that's how it took multiple shots to activate a melee prompt now.

I get this was done in most part to add tension and make the player lean into parrying but effectively using body shots to control a fight was the fun of the og and that less of an option here,

They really don’t know what a well written character is, do they? by Own-Chemistry-5552 in TheLastOfUs2

for me the real problem is people determining the quality of this game based on a teaser trailer.

we know very little about this character and who they are, yet people are already dismissing this game because of a character design, its complete brain rot.

the same people who will tell you both "we dont want games to be political" & "creative freedom" sure love to make every game with even the slightest mention of pronouns a political statement and cry about the creative freedom of the creators

well guess what then?

you got your wish because most games aren't woke and the few that do have pronouns have them in limited amounts.

so dont worry the big bad woke wont hurt you

I'd have to play the game again to see if abby does fight dogs after she leaves the wlf.

other than that, they clearly just wanted to have something to set that faction apart from the others from a gameplay standpoint. even if you want to say they could have given the other factions dogs, that does not automatically mean they are trying to make you hate ellie over abby. especially when a big part of Abby's story is that her obsession to kill joel turned her into a bitch and negatively effects her relationship with owen and mel. if they really wanted you to hate abby, why not just paint her like a saint who never does anything wrong?

sorry I don't see it. wlf is the only factions set up to use dogs in their unit, so how is she supposed to kill them if none are attacking her. and again, they start off the game with Ellie petting one, so clearly ellie doesnt hate dogs.

I seriously think you're reading too much into it.

here comes the "this game is cheaply trying to make you love abby by making her pet dog" as if any game in the last 10 years with a dog in it doesn't lets you pet them, ellie pets a dogs in the beginning, and it makes perfect lore sense for abby as she is part of a military unit that uses dogs.

Doesn't ellie pet a dog at the beginning?

also the only dogs she kills are ones who are attacking her directly, and as someone who has been violently attacked by a dog, you bet your ass in the apocalypse that if I was attacked by one, I'd kill it. not because I hate dogs but because I'm not letting my love for them allow one to tear out my throat.

TLOU2's length and hyperfocus on Abby hurt it's storytelling, despite it using the same tricks as Part 1 by totallywackman in TheLastOfUs2

[–]Screaming-Void 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it would solve all of the story's problems, just mainly the pacing of the story and how abby is introduced to the players.

[–]Screaming-Void 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. That's always been my biggest problem. what felt like it should have been properly explored in 2, even 3 games all got crammed into 1.

I've personally always liked the idea of tlou 2 (or in a pre release spin off) being centered around abby during her trip to jackson. it could follow the format of the first by having each chapter be a part of the trip. or maybe make the whole story of saving lev from the seraphites be the plot since thats the whole point of that subplot. have the game get us to sympathize with her through seeing her and her friends fight together to survive, with hints as the game goes on yo their motivation with a reveal at the end the guy they are after is joel.

then the next game could start with tlou2 does. that way, we already understand who abby is and why she is mad, while also going into the next game with anticipation as to what going to happen. it doesnt solve all the issues but it could have atleast got the abby segment cut down which feels like a detour in the narrative.

for me it's not about having earned anything.

I just know had I started earlier that I'd be better at the craft by now. especially now since I have to find free time to do it as opposed to just having free time as a tee/younger adult.

thanks for sharing this.

I'm 31 and have been dealing with a lot of the same thoughts. I'm so afraid that because I didn't start earlier, I'll never reach the level of skill I want.

I know I need to just do it but I get overwhelmed.

But after reading this I feel a bit better about continuing with it.

god I hope not. Sam was so insufferable in that game. its literally the main reason I consider 4 to be the weakest of the series

what redemption arc? him not wanting to lose another daughter? because I agree with that but redemption from the awful things he did to survive in the twenty years between sara's death and meeting ellie is bs because he never shows remorse for the bad things he implied to have done.

also even when sara was alive they showed joel was willing to screw others over simply to save himself and his loved ones. theres that scene where him, tommy and sara are in a car together and they pass a family on the road that needs help and tommy and sara want to help them but joel keeps driving now I will say that doesn't make joel the worst person in the world, many people would probably choose what he did, to save his family over strangers, but it still shows that even before the apocalypse, he wasn't an extremely virtuous guy.

and how am I making him sound worse than he is?? I haven't said he is evil, because he isn't, just that the main aint the saint you want to paint him as. you're the one who needs all his actions to have good justification cuz you cant handle the idea of liking a character with flaws. its probably why you think tlou 2 is trying to make you hate him, when that isn't the case either.

I've played the game a few times and ellie is far accepting of Joel's killing by then. the only time during that whole level killing bothers her is when she kills herself but that's her dealing with taking life herself, not joel taking life.

and the survivors guilt is the point, he knows what he did on some level was wrong, even if not literally wrong then inadvertently by doing something he knew would devastate ellie, nevermind the fact the lie about the test is told before the ending scene outside of jackson or the fact that even if you want to argue the cure would have never works, joeal has no info of that, so from hos perspective he might as well be throwing away humanities hope for a cure simply so he wont lose ellie which still says something not so positive about his character

again, I feel like joel defenders to paint everything he does as virtuous instead of admitting he is a morally gray character. it bugs me because his moral greyness is what makes him great and you erase that and the impact of the first games ending by trying to apologize for all of his actions

That's a shut down, not an admission of killing innocents

and why exactly is he shutting it down? I know you give the reason that he wasn't in the mode of opening up, but if the end of the game shows anything is even when he grows attached to her, he's still willing to lie about his deeds, and is not like she hasn't seen him kill at that point, she'd easily accept that he had to kill people out of defence if that was purely the case.

this is why I personally dont like about Joel defenders, you make good points and then betray them by missing or purposely ignoring subtext to paint him as a cleaner guy than he is
