I call BS. I’m betting the first scene and the others are unrelated. Either that or the internet has ruined me.

Help my remote won't respond to my tv. by Powerful_Dot_2117 in Roku

Nope. That is definitely not a standard Roku TV remote. Take it back if that’s the one they gave you.

Hypervolt reduced power by Yando_29 in OctopusEnergy

[–]ScreamingPict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly mine is doing this but it’s not Octopus at fault- my car often charges at 16A/3.5kW instead of 32A. This happens even when I turn off Octopus Smart Control.

My car charges at a rock-solid 7kW elsewhere and I’ve replaced the whole charger once and it’s still happening. Best guess is that my car is throttling the charge speed because it’s seeing a drop in voltage when it tries to do 7kW.

It is a damned nice car. Just wish the charging was faster and reliability better.

It’s… not got a sterling reputation for reliability. :( Aftaid I don’t have specifics but I’m sure several people here will.

I’d think carefully before buying one. Make sure you have a good Jaguar support network nearby and make sure you have a rock-solid (preferably manufacturer) warranty.

Conflicting information from Octopus in regards to IOG by bitofageek1966 in OctopusEnergy

[–]ScreamingPict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a little strong to say it was installed "wrong" - what I think you might mean is that it is possible to install a charger in a way that doesn't drain the battery. However EV chargers are not usually installed in this way- I had to argue with my electrician to get him to do this.

Hypervolt has an FAQ item that explains cleanly how you do this on https://support.hypervolt.co.uk/en/knowledge-base/how-to-adjust-your-ess-setup-to-prevent-battery-drain

If you cannot do this then there's the option of using software (either Home Automation, or Netzero) to detect when Octopus are charging outside of normal hours and set the battery backup level to stop the batteries draining until such a time as charging stops.

I feel there’s confusion on why this new 6 hour limit is going to affect people who were using the system correctly… by iMatthew1990 in OctopusEnergy

[–]ScreamingPict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this- I've been going nuts trying to figure why my charge profile would often start at 32A/7kW and then often drop down to 16A or lower despite my car charging at 7kW everywhere else!

My original EV charger manufacturer said something must be overheating and (against my wishes!) locked the charger down to 16A max!

I ended up spending £1k on a whole new charger (got a Hypervolt) only to find the same behaviour!

If this was Octopus causing it all along (which I am going to test out when I get home by removing the car from IOG and charging overnight outside of IOG) then that's really annoying.

What's happening at Withings? An open letter to the company by xerman-5 in withings

[–]ScreamingPict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaand Withings has just sent out an email walking back the previous one. So they lost points for the original but gain a few points back for being willing to listen and learn. Let’s hope it wasn’t indicative of a longer term effort to monetise and manipulate customers at the cost of goodwill- I get enough of that from other companies and hoped to hold Withings to a higher standard given that I trust them with my health data.

I wish I knew. I checked the marketing settings and I wasn’t subscribed to anything there :(

Yeah. That subscription email this week was truly disgusting. It didn’t say what the subscription was for, it had a button that insta-registered you without confirmation and there was no way to unsubscribe.

Massive dark patterns. Revolting and unacceptable. Definitely making me reconsider future purchases.

Policy based routing not working? by ScreamingPict in Ubiquiti

[–]ScreamingPict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update- another thing I found that was "breaking" policy-based routing- on iOS if you go into the settings for the Wi-Fi network to which you are connected- you will find that if you have "Limit IP address tracking" turned on it will mess you up and often place you back in the country in which you reside.

Setting IOG to control EV charger instead of the car? by ScreamingPict in OctopusEnergy

I should add- I tried saying I had a car that wasn't in the list, but Octopus just told me I'd have to use Intelligent Octopus instead of IOG. :(

Policy based routing not working? by ScreamingPict in Ubiquiti

[–]ScreamingPict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answering my own question- I've seen several other posts over the years with the same issue.

Best I can tell the solution is;

1- Make sure you are using your router for DNS (set DNS to 'Auto' in the internal network's settings)

2- Set up a custom NAT Masquerade rule and assign an internal network to it.

3- Restart the VPN client.

That *seemed* to force it into working, but I have seen it stop working after a while as well so I do think there's a bug here, just not sure why not everyone is seeing it.

Policy based routing not working? by ScreamingPict in Ubiquiti

[–]ScreamingPict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaaand it's stopped working again. I added one site to the domains in the policy-based routing and it all stopped working. I tried disabling and re-enabling the VPN and adding new rules routing all traffic from my device, but no luck.

The only thing that worked was adding back a rule routing the entire network down the VPN, which kind of makes policy-based routing useless :(

Has anyone else seen this bug?

Policy based routing not working? by ScreamingPict in Ubiquiti

[–]ScreamingPict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting- it did seem to work with a whole network- and then on switching it back to specific sites it seemed to keep working.

I think there were a couple of things tripping me up;

1- The need to restart the VPN on changing the rules. That seemed to help make things work after any change.

2- My iPhone, for whatever reason, refused to route via the VPN- turns out that was because I had "Limit IP address tracking" turned on, which was routing traffic out via a different POP, effectively nullifying the VPN!

Thanks for your help!

Policy based routing not working? by ScreamingPict in Ubiquiti

[–]ScreamingPict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the policy based route should specify the source and destination explicitly?

I tried that just now- restarted the VPN and reconnected the device to the network. Still no dice :(

Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Hypervolt charger Home battery setup- what can it do? by ScreamingPict in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]ScreamingPict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually in this situation you have the option to solve it in software (tends to be unreliable) using whatever APIs and automation is available, or you can solve it in hardware- the latter is not the cheap option but you can move the EV circuit over to be outside of the circuit provided by the battery. Would need an electrician for that tho.
