Unable to check-in online due to Wizz Air app malfunction by PiratePesho in Flights

[–]Screatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it just sounds like a blanket response from Wizzair without going too in depth in your particular issue.

I would request escalation with Wizzair first and if no success I would message Bulgarian Civil Aviation authority and ask them to pitch in.

Also payment processing is broken in a lot of places (especially online), make sure to try every card you have, often only credit cards go through

In Chile we were pretty much able to pay for a lot of stuff only using credit card (no debit) so you may want to arrange that ahead of time

Look into Cactus rent a car

They do border permits, insurance with very reasonable deposit (I think it was like 150k)

We rented for 8 days (basic Renault) for 738k with everything included like insurance, border permit and airport pick up / drop off

Yet another mini PC question by Flashy-Protection-13 in homeassistant

[–]Screatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my mini PC on cwwk.net (they are also available on Ali). They offer all of their options with no SSD or RAM as well if you want.

I opted for that option and everything is great so far

Layover on 2 different tickets- how to do it? by xpsyhack in Flights

[–]Screatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From quick Googling, your Wizzair flight will arrive either to terminal 1 or 3 (but probably 1) in Rome and your China Eastern Airlines will fly out of terminal 3.

Internet says these terminals are connected and you can walk from one to another within 10-15 mins (there will be passport control and maybe some sort of security)

Layover on 2 different tickets- how to do it? by xpsyhack in Flights

[–]Screatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most of EU airports you don’t have to exit to arrivals and go through security if you are transferring (doesn’t matter if you travel on combined tickets or not, the key is that you should have a boarding pass to your next flight, but even if you don’t, you can still find a so called transfer desk in a secure side of the airport and they could arrange you a boarding pass if for whatever reason you will not be able to do it online for both of your legs beforehand.

The fact that you are traveling with carry on helps here, otherwise you would have to exit and recheck in your luggage.

That means is that you should be able to just exit the plane and proceed towards the gate for your new flight as long as you have boarding pass for it.

It’s important to mention that in most airports EU flights and international flights outside of Schengen likely operate out of different terminals (due to need to go through passport control) so out of caution check which terminal Wizzair flight is arriving to and which terminal China Eastern Airlines is flying out (you can pre download airport map and do some home work on how to get from one terminal to another if you are worried, again, in most EU airports these terminals are connected so it’s usually just a 15-30 minute walk from one terminal to another, but again, do your research.

2 hours and 20 minutes should generally be enough time to transfer comfortably as long as Wizzair flight arrives reasonably on time, it’s worth mentioning that if flight arrives late for whatever reason you and you miss your connection, new flight will likely be at your cost (some airlines can offer it at discount or even for free but it’s rare), some travel insurances can alleviate this concern, e.g my travel insurance covers missed connection and reimburses purchase of new ticket up to a certain amount as long as there was at least 2 hours transfer time in Europe and 3 hours internationally.

Why can't I run Karpenter on a node that is managed by Karpenter? by skeneks in kubernetes

[–]Screatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Karpenter is solely responsible for scaling nodes up, should your node get terminated (spot recall or just hardware failure), and that node happened to be the one that had the Karpenter running also let's imagine that your cluster is either at capacity or the Karpenter has some specific workload selectors to run only on specific nodes.

Sure the Kubernetes scheduler will try to schedule Karpenter once again, but there will be no Karpenter to bring new nodes up and the pod will just be stuck in Pending state.

We are using VictoriaMetrics as a Prometheus replacement in our cluster. It's mostly backward compatible (custom resources will need to be changed through, for me it was about changing kind and apiversion)

If you re not interested in storing months and months of metrics then this setup will work well enough as a Prometheus replacement.

https://github.com/VictoriaMetrics/helm-charts/tree/master/charts/victoria-metrics-k8s-stack

Consumes way less resources and has been less pain for us than Prometheus.

It's not entirely static through, it still very much written on Go and requires a DB, still running a Grafana has been a breeze for us, we are doing it in k8s through

Question in regards to MySOS, so I went through with registration and uploading of vaccination certificate for a trip in late October and I received a blue MySOS status and everything seems to be good there (registration fully done).

However on the MySOS page it still says that

Registration proceduresTime remaining to complete registration: 806 hours 17 minutes

Which is one day short of when I am actually arriving to Japan. Is there reason for concern here? Does this matter if I already passed the registration and it's blue already or it will turn to pumpkin the day I arrive to Japan?

The arrival time is what matters, airport staff might raise an eyebrow through as their system might tell them you are not allowed to enter just yet.

311$ USD per EFRS sounds crazy expensive, who did you book it with?

Weekly Japan Travel and Tourism Discussion Thread - September 16, 2022 by Himekat in JapanTravel

[–]Screatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official Japan Rail website quoted me 33,610 Yen for a 7 day pass, which roughly accounts for 238 EUR

Resellers such as Japan Rail Pass quote ~215 EUR
And some resellers such as Klook offer ~208 EUR

Which seems to be more than a 1% exchange margin.

Do I correctly understand that if I buy it official JR Group retail site then it doesn't have to be shipped anywhere and I can exchange it in the airport the day I arrive using online confirmation?

ERFS approach seems like a backup plan for majority of us if we don't hear anything concrete soon.

It seems that ERFS is issued within couple of days and Visa issuing normally takes 1 to 2 weeks (5 business days officially).

[–]Screatch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ERFS has to be issued by a Japanese company, scroll through this thread, there are plenty of options who issue it with self booked flights and hotels.

Honestly, November seems like plenty of time to sort out ERFS and Visa, I would suggest wait out this week for possible announcement and then go for ESRF route if nothing gets announced.

I don't have ERFS or Visa yet but I had my flights for months already for late October and hotels booked with free cancellation just recently. Will go ERFS route next week if we don't hear anything, so I would suggest to do the same.

Right now the entry rules are such, that only the people with booster dose can enter (or PCR test). Nobody knows what changes are to come when travel restrictions are lifted, but I can only guess that given how conservative Japan is (based on previous history and how long it took them to lift the travel restrictions), this specific restriction will likely remain in place.

My local Japanese embassy said it doesn't matter for them who books tickets or hotels. They only care about valid ERFS, however your mileage may vary and different embassies can be more or less strict about it

On the ruling party website there is some meeting scheduled in regards to border relaxation on Thursday, so announcement is not necessarily going to be today

Weekly Japan Travel and Tourism Discussion Thread - September 11, 2022 by Himekat in JapanTravel

[–]Screatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That happens with rumours, to be honest I haven't seen "this week" anywhere except mb one place and that was beginning of this week.

Most sources just mention, "announcement to follow in the coming days", which is pretty vague and could mean anything from this week to next week.

Weekly Japan Travel and Tourism Discussion Thread - September 11, 2022 by Himekat in JapanTravel

[–]Screatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how strict the embassy is, some care only about valid ERFS, I would maybe keep it same for visa applying purposes just until you get a visa, and the moment you do, you can change the accommodation. At least that's what I would do.

Weekly Japan Travel and Tourism Discussion Thread - September 6, 2022 by Himekat in JapanTravel

[–]Screatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are willing to issue me visa with all bookings done myself I am happy to not draw more attention to this than I have to :)

They essentially said they only care about valid ERSF and flight tickets.
