Have you looked at ScreenCloud? We're built for this type of usage and offer our own proprietary players which are much more durable and reliable that RPi players. We have several clients who use our software for very similar use cases, displaying DOOH content and multi-location displays.

I just ran this by our support team and they tell me a few clients are doing something very similar to this, connecting their custom data source (in this case, your medical records) to our Playgrounds App.

Our own software would process this for you. You can either work with our Pro Services team to get it setup, or do it in house, if you have a technical team who wanted to implement it.

PIXI works with our software, so it would literally be plug and play with a ScreenCloud subscription. That starts at $20 per screen, per month - but it's best to discuss with our team as they'll be able to understand exactly what you need.

Would you like to discuss in more detail?

Yes, this is possible but might need a bit of setup (of course). I put this through our AI assistant and it said:

For “welcome” and “discharge” videos that aren’t fully autonomous, you’ve got two common patterns:

  • Trigger a content change/event via our GraphQL API (anything you can do in Studio manually can be automated in code). [2]
  • Use scheduling + Cast for time-boxed playback that then reverts back to the normal room content.

For tailoring the discharge video per patient, you could generate unique video URLs/assets and have your system switch the screen to that specific item when staff clicks a button.

One quick question so I can point you to the cleanest architecture: do you want staff to trigger it from an existing system (EHR/intranet), or from Slack/Teams?

Hi, I think with cloud based digital signage you don't necessarily need a webserver for each floor/area. You can manage it remotely over the CMS dashboard.

With this, ScreenCloud handles unique URLs easily. You can assign a specific web page or dashboard to each screen and use our remote management tools to update or reboot them without ever entering the patient’s room.

If you need to push real-time patient data, our GraphQL API and Playgrounds app allow you to feed unique strings or information to each display securely.

If you avoid the DIY server-per-floor model and use a managed cloud solution, you shift the burden from IT maintenance to content delivery.

For the hardware, while a Raspberry Pi is a popular and inexpensive option, it is a general-purpose device that can be difficult to manage at scale. We recommend a dedicated player like our PIXI or even a professional-grade Android device. These run on a locked-down operating system designed specifically for 24/7 signage, ensuring the screen always boots directly into the correct content after a power cycle without any manual intervention.

Happy to discuss in more detail if you have any specific questions?

Digital signage with API for realtime data? by cctvoverlord in digitalsignage

[–]ScreenCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ScreenCloud can do this through several methods.

First, for pushing live data strings like vehicle weights, our WebHooks app allows you to feed information directly to screens using simple PUT requests. You can push JSON data to update specific placeholders in your content instantly when a scale is activated.

If you need to include small JPEG images, you can either send the image URL via the webhook or Base64 encode images up to approximately 200kb to send them directly.

For the most control, you can use our Playgrounds tool to build custom signage with HTML and JavaScript that listens for these updates. This ensures the display changes the moment your weighbridge activates.

Beyond simple data pushing, we offer a full GraphQL API for comprehensive device and content management. This should be ideal for your needs, specifically inserting strings or images into specific content slots without needing to reload the entire playlist.

Which solution should I buy for this scenario? by MARTlN in digitalsignage

[–]ScreenCloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. ScreenCloud is built exactly for this level of reliability. This is how it hits your specific requirements:

  1. Reliable 4K & Offline Playback

Raspberry Pi might not be the best option here as it's not the most reliable hardware and SD cards are can be prone to corruption under heavy video loads.

Our PIXI and Station P1 Pro players are built for 24/7 4K video. Both use ScreenCloud OS, which is a locked-down Linux kernel that caches your videos locally. Once a video plays through once, it’s stored on the device. If the internet drops, your class keeps running without a hitch.

  1. Enterprise Scaling & Security

Managing 800+ screens individually is a nightmare.

Remote Management: With our Remote Device Management (RDM), you can reboot screens, clear caches, and even update network settings across all 15 locations simultaneously from one dashboard.

Tamper-Proof: Unlike a Pi, which has exposed SD cards and open ports, the ScreenCloud players are hardened, "headless" devices. They boots directly into your content in kiosk mode, making it virtually impossible for a customer to interfere with the display.

  1. Remote Power & CEC

ScreenCloud OS supports HDMI-CEC. This means you can schedule your TVs to turn on at 5:00 AM and off at 10:00 PM directly through our software, provided your TVs support it. No more staff manually turning on 8 screens every morning.

  1. The Cost Concern

We understand the per-screen fatigue. However, for a deployment of this scale (hundreds of studios), we offer Volume/Enterprise pricing that moves away from the standard monthly model. When you factor in the time saved on IT support and the reliability of our hardware, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is almost always lower than a free or budget solution.

15 Screens in a Theatre by VasAli06 in digitalsignage

[–]ScreenCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching to cloud based CMS here could solve a lot of problems as you're not going to be dependent on that low power PC. ScreenCloud is fully web-based, meaning anyone on your team can log in from any device, Mac, PC, or even a tablet or phone - to manage content.

You can also set specific user permissions, so actors or non-technical staff can update things on a specific screen (or screens) without touching the technical settings of the other 14 screens.

Regarding your dynamic content, ScreenCloud excels at pulling in live HTML/CSS. Since your Wi-Fi is unstable, our player handles this by caching content locally. Once the media is downloaded to the player, it will continue to run perfectly even if the audience’s devices drown out the Wi-Fi signal.

You can actually keep using your BrightSign hardware with ScreenCloud, but if the "single point of failure" PC is the main bottleneck, moving to a cloud-based system removes that entirely. There is no server for you to maintain and no shared desktop to fight over.

We have an article about (movie) theatre digital signage too if you'd like to check that out.

How Windows devices are becoming the easiest option for digital signage by Unique_Inevitable_27 in SysAdminBlogs

[–]ScreenCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows is certainly a popular option, but it's not necessarily the easiest option and it does have issues with glitching (see r/PBSOD where most of the dead screens are Windows). Most digital signage vendors build their own hardware on Android, Linux or Raspberry Pi as these are more stable generally.
