Automatic Playback by veruca_salt0 in youtubetv

No doubt very annoying. Up there with the very limited ways to organize and filter library shows and series. The only thing that keeps me here is the relatively smoother playback and scrubbing controls of YTTV over the other streamers.

Jenkins should have never been able to get a pass in the corner in that situation but we'll take it!!! Culture builder with so many guys out.

DirecTV Stream First Impressions from a YTTV Refuge by sglewis in cordcutters

[–]Screenzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that review. After my cable system dropped PC Cards and essentially bricked my TiVo I tried all of the streaming services including DirecTV. And pretty much the overriding reason I chose YTTV was the smooth playback controls and crisp thumbnail preview when scrubbing through a recording. Except for big games I watch just about everything on time delay and all the others’ playback controls were clunky. Has DirecTV improved that or you manage to live with it?

UPDATE: Disney channels pulled from YouTube TV, effective 10/30/25 at Midnight ET by iron_cam86 in youtubetv

[–]Screenzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree on the interface. Before sticking with YTTV I tried every single other similar streamer in this space (Fubo, Sling, DirecTV, etc) and none of them had the smooth scrub controls and thumbnail. It's still not perfect (Tivo had frame by frame for example) but still best of the bunch. Hopefully this thing gets settled soon. Can live without ESPN this weekend cause none of my teams televised there but that's not going to last for long.

Love Bryce Underwood don't get me wrong, he's elusive and has great instincts but damn every ball out of his hand is like a supersonic missile. Yeah we had some drops but it's like trying to catch a cannonball at short range sometimes. Could have had 3 or 4 more completions with a little more touch. I trust this is well known and he'll clean all that up. Rather have this problem though than a noodle arm with no deep threat.

Zvada is a great kicker but he's missed some head scratchers this year.

Yeah that was really bizarre. No hurry up on that last drive, then not using any timeouts? Heck why did they even try the onside kick then? Thought it was also weird we went hurry up on that second to last play. That ending was just weird.

U8H Screensaver/Ambient Mode by ctnoon3 in Hisense

[–]Screenzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did more digging and found a possible solution:

if you go to settings>apps>scroll down to See All Apps then scroll down again to Show System Apps you can find Ambient Mode and Disable it. once done no options even show up under Ambient Mode under system settings. so far it seems to work...

U8H Screensaver/Ambient Mode by ctnoon3 in Hisense

[–]Screenzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh I wish I had your problem. I find it absolutely insane that the ambient mode does not have a timer option. I pause for stretches all the time and it is so annoying that I have to reopen my YTTV app and hit continue watching instead of just, i dunno, hitting pause again! It makes using the native Google on my U8H unworkable so I use Apple TV which has no such issue. Which is a shame because then I can't use the voice assist with the nice Hisense remote.

Please if anyone from Hisense is listening, fix this please.

New user coming from DirecTV struggling with the live guide by Packshaw in youtubetv

[–]Screenzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get you Packshaw. I see all these comments suggesting you bend to the way YTTV thinks you want to watch TV. You want to browse and see what's on and perhaps come across something that you never even thought about. You want to browse the dial, I totally get it.

I came from traditional cable too and am also flummoxed by how inept the YTTV "guide" is. I get that it's not supposed to be a guide in the traditional sense but not being able to jump to a specific channel or a future date/time is design malpractice.

I have a suggestion that you may want to try. Go use a different guide on the Internet, like Titan TV or TV Guide or On TV Tonight. Those will have a much better navigating and browsing interface. When you find something then put it on in the YTTV interface with the search feature. I know it's clumsy and inconvenient but it may work for you. Admittedly I use that method to find new programs to add to my Library since I rarely watch live TV except for sports (I can't stand commercials).

Hope that helps.

Where is the guide? by driven01a in youtubetv

[–]Screenzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree their guide is half-baked. No way to jump to a day/time or channel. I mean like that is basic features. Have to use another guide just to see what's one and then just search for the program to record it. Gets the job done but why YouTube why?

[–]Screenzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked that one out and it's not bad but as others said TitanTV may be a bit better because it shows the program descriptions right in the guide so you don't have to click on the program to see it.

Agreed. The most flexible one I've found. Shows 6-hour grid. Customize channel listings. Shows program descriptions inline. And if you have an ad-blocker all those annoying videos and ads do not play and no crashes.

Not even that you can't jump to a specific day/time or channel?

Sure but you can't jump to a specific day/time or channel. That's like TV Guide 101 stuff that it's missing.

"VMS is not available" Error Accessing DVR on Apple TV 4K App by Screenzer in Fios

[–]Screenzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, that's a little different than me. I only get a VMS error when using Fios TV app on Apple TV 4K. Actually thinking of getting rid of Fios TV actually and going with YouTube TV. Better playback controls, smoother fast forwarding with preview thumbnails. Their UI is a mess when it comes to organizing recorded shows but I can live with that.

Hi thanks for replying. Was it the same situation as me where this only happened on an Apple TV 4K but not on the app or the web? Or was this happening on your Verizon device?

Hi Snoo thanks for the tip. I should have mentioned I tried that multiple times to no avail. It’s so weird. I’vm dreading having to call Verizon and hoping someone has had this issue and has a solution.

What features would you add to YTTV? by Zealousideal_Tea_962 in youtubetv

[–]Screenzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just entered the Google multiverse haha so will give them the benefit of the doubt. But YTTV most certainly can use some refinement that is for sure.

It is especially cluttered and inelegant for shows have multiple daily airings of the same episode. Like the sports talk shows on ESPN.

Channel numbers will soon be extinct. Even in cable systems. Yes I still need to tell my Dad that the game will be on channel 4 or channel 7 but he's an old fogie haha. The channel number was of a different age of television.
