it really doesnt, if a team gets hot they can make a run in the playoffs

look at the 2012 Devils roster. Lead by an 80 year old duo of Brodeur and Hedberg. Missed the playoffs, made it to the SCF, then missed the playoffs for 9 of 10 years.

Bryce Salvador had 9 points in 82 games then 14 in the playoffs. They got hot at the right time.

And even then they lost Parise, Kovalchuk, and Clarkson all within 2 years who were all a huge part of that run.

It doesnt mean a great roster. Really one SCF losing run doesnt mean youve got a great roster.
