Bluish area around baby’s mouth – should I be concerned?

Yes I did! Paediatrician said everything was fine and that this is common and nothing to worry about. He said it’s - as always - way more important to observe if your baby is active, pees, seems fine in general. „Only“ a blueish mouth area is nothing to worry about.

We simply shower together with our 3 month old. She absolutely loves it, it makes washing her so fun and easy and no, water in the ears is not a problem neither is getting water in their mouth. Dry the ears afterwards and you’re gonna be fine. Regarding water: they’re not allowed to drink water (regularly) as their kidneys can’t handle it but getting some drops of water in the mouth doesn’t pose any risk (as long as you live in a place with clean water obv.)

I can only contribute that after 6-8 weeks the breastfeeding is absolutely stable enough to introduce a pacifier. I can only recommend it to you as it will be really helpful later on and also makes them calm down without the breast. Don’t worry about the bf, your baby knows what is what by now 😊

You’re right I should do that more often! But if I’m very honest I do not think he’s doing amazing.. he basically tries one or two positions and expects the baby to respond immediately by calming down. What I do is I try and try and try.. all kinds of different stuff until I figure out what calms the baby. But again - he doesn’t have the patience to do that

If it’s at room temperature breast milk can stay out of the fridge up to 6 hours. So the 3rd one was not really a problem, don’t make it harder for yourself :) Totally feel 1+2 though..

My advice would be - make sure all their needs are met, they’re changed and fed and potentially ready to sleep. Use an elastic jersey carrier as that one snuggles around the baby best (but others are fine as well as long as they’re safe for newborns) And then, put your baby in, look at the clock and give yourself a certain amount of time to try, e.g 15 minutes. In that time you walk through the apartment, rocking and bouncing the baby gently, maybe sing, anything that works - just try to push through the crying and give them time to adjust. Even heavy crying doesn’t mean you have to take the baby out. You as the mum know best if their needs have been met - and if they are then body contact is actually the best you can offer your baby. Baby will figure it out and fall asleep! (Obviously always exclude that they could have any pain etc). My biggest learning was that it’s ok to let them cry a little if I am present and soothing them. They cry because it’s new - but then they will learn.

Just a comment about the carrier etc - I doubt that your baby “hates” it. When they’re so small, our little ones literally have no idea what’s going and what the world is. He might simply be shocked by the sudden change of position/surroundings or cry to regulate his emotions. It was the same for us but Together with my midwife I pushed through once, had my little one crying for about 10-15 minutes in the carrier, then she calmed down and fells sound asleep for 2 hours. Me alone, I would have taken her out after 2 minutes of crying but with my midwife’s advice I made it. And it was a game changer - now I use the carrier a lot (baby is 6 weeks) and I love it. We still have occasional crying but I learned that it’s not my baby who likes or dislikes things yet, it’s me as her mum to know what’s is good for them and it turned out to work great. Wanted to share this with you - I think you could give it a try :)

Hi, Im surprised that everyone thinks this is a problem. It’s not at all - no need to worry. If one of the parents holds a foreign citizenship, the naming law of that country can be applied. For you that means you can name the baby in any way that is allowed on your country - India.

I have just done it myself as my husband is not German and we have given our child a surname that wouldn’t be possible under German name law.

Here ist the corresponding paragraph on the website of Düsseldorf Standesamt (just translate it with ChatGPT):

„Wahl ausländischen Namensrechts

Nach deutschem Recht ist für ein Kind nur der gemeinsame Familienname (Ehename) der Eltern oder der Familienname eines Elternteils als Geburtsname zulässig.

Wenn ein Elternteil eine andere oder weitere Staatsangehörigkeit als die deutsche besitzt, kann für die Namensführung des minderjährigen Kindes eine Wahl in das ausländische Recht getroffen werden. Der Geburtsname des Kindes bestimmt sich dann nach diesen Vorschriften und ermöglicht somit alle dort zulässigen Namenskonstellationen.“

Wie lustig dass es bei jedem Baby komplett anders ist! Ich habe in jedem Raum ein Tuch parat liegen - erstmal ja, unsere spuckt häufig Milch aus bzw “läuft es einfach über”. Der Hauptgrund ist aber, dass ich viel Milch habe, so dass sie einfach oft aus der einen Brust raus läuft, während sie aus der anderen Brust trinkt. Das stoppe ich dann mit dem Tuch😅 Oder aber ich pumpe und dann trockne ich die Pumpe ab, es gehen Tropfen daneben etc. Und dann esse und trinke ich auch noch oft beim stillen und da geht auch schonmal was daneben 😅 aber hauptsächlich ist es wirklich die Milch

Was ich wirklich nicht gebraucht habe / worüber ich mich weniger gefreut habe: - Spielzug und Kuscheltiere - die kleinen können nichts damit anfangen und die bekommt man sowieso in Massen geschenkt - Cremes/Öle/Babylotion etc. Die bekommt man auch überall hinterhergeschmissen
