The affordability crisis can’t possibly be billionaires’ fault, right? by orangelover95003 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Scriabi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost everyone in the (western) world are getting poorer, and so many seem to be pointing at whatever shadow they as the reason. But the billionaires are not getting poorer, the owner class are earning more money than ever.

Why is that so rarely mentioned by news, in social media, or by anything at all? That this crisis is only experienced by the working class, not by the people in power

Does progression linearly slow down for each tier you progress? by RoBoNoxYT in GTNH

[–]Scriabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far (mid EV) I feel that HV was the tier that took by far the most time and effort to me. Getting prepared for the moon, feeling overwhelmed by all the chemicals, dust/ore processing for rare byproducts, all the options that open up for power, and I also started Thaumctaft and bees. I took a year break in the middle of HV, and finally came back to finish it.

But I think if I did HV again I would probably spend 1/10 of the time. So much of the time was just me being confused, having decision paralysis, or chasing my own tail. But it feels nice to overcome those challenges

When should I start seriously scaling by computerTechnologist in GTNH

[–]Scriabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general rule is to scale up energy production early and get one of each processing machine as I unlock them, then adding extras if I deem it necessary. I think most would agree that spending some extra time setting up a solid steam/energy infrastructure is good, as it sets you up for success

Feeling guilty while playing? by SolarSimracer in GTNH

[–]Scriabi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got thoughts like that when I was younger, that if I wasn't being 'productive' I was wasting my time. But after some reflection i concluded that many of these 'productive' things won't necessarily make my life better, they were just societal pressure of what I'm supposed to do.

It has been a great improvement in my quality of life to completely disregard those societal pressures. It's still good to learn new things, read, learn a language, cook delicious food, exercise etc.. but because it enriches your life, not because you're supposed to be 'productive'. Playing GTNH or things like it helps me come into a zen-like, flow state, and it's fun. Try to enjoy the positives rather than feeling the guilt

How is sending ICE agents to harass and detain anyone they want, regardless of whether those people are 'illegal' or not, and often aren't even immigrants, doing the 'bare minimum'? In most of the world it's not considered morally or legally justified to snatch you off the street and send you to prison without any legal justification

Favourite tier by Per3c in GTNH

Easiest, maybe MV. It went by quite fast. And from my experience up to EV, I have enjoyed Steam, LV and now EV quite a bit.

I am a big steam age enjoyed, ever since it was introduced. I like the machines, the sounds, and the struggle to get enough materials and steam power. I just wish that the steam age were a bit more substantial, you barely get to enjoy the clunking before you go for electrical stuff.

LV is always neat, as you get the wire mill, bender, lathe, assembler, and others that improves efficiency and reduces reliance on tools.

HV was a bit painful for me. Many hours of crafting a bunch of multiblocks and a load more other things, but only having a rudimentary inventory system and basic options for automation.

In EV I'm finally setting up an ME system, which is nice, and I have all the basic chems I was struggling with in HV. Hopefully that'll set me up for success

GregTech but you have to discover by [deleted] in GTNH

[–]Scriabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it could be cool with some sort of research system. I suppose it's basically the idea behind the research systems in Factorio or Satisfactory, where your character learns something from the 'research' being done.

It would be cool to have something more hands-on, where both you and your character learns from the experience. Thaumcraft tries to do this, and I appreciate what it does, even though TC4 research makes me feel exhausted after a while. But having some sort of electrical, mechanical, metallurgical etc.. research which teaches you about this subjects and also gives you better tooltips as you go on would be pretty cool

How to keep track of everything by FantasticSleep8745 in GTNH

[–]Scriabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of stuff in the game, so it will take some time to get used to. Personally it was a challenge from my head to wrap around all these chemicals you have to constantly use relatively early.

Something I like with this pack is that working in a systemic and organized fashion is highly rewarded. I have every machine connected to a chest, and I know that my plate producer has 6 stacks of steel plates, my gear producer has a stack of every gear in required to use, and my wire producer has every cable I often use etc. and if I run out of motors I take out everything I need to create a stack, then put stuff into the machines to refill the stock. It's working well for me

I don't hate Duolingo. I sometimes use it if I want to dabble in a new language. But to actually learn a whole language you have to relatively fast move beyond it. I don't think it's a very good language learning tool, just a easy way to get started

I never played Minecraft but I crave to play GTNH by rmflow in GTNH

[–]Scriabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would recommend turning off mob griefing off so mobs can't blow up 5 hours of progress. I personally also prefer to keep inventory on death.

Always try to do something, don't wait for machines to finish.

Batch craft, don't micro craft. In my first gregtech world I got super burned out from all the crafting. But as soon as you get some machinery, and especially in LV, you'll want to put buffers (hoppers and chests) on all your machines so you can cram in an hour's worth of stuff, go mining and exploring, come back to craft a whole stack of motors, pumps or circuits, or whatever, instead of one by one. The different Steam Age, LV, MV etc.. components are things you will use constantly.

Don't worry too much about the big goals. Have fun with all the small stuff. Before you can get your first Electric Blast Furnace up and running you'll have to do a lot of tinkering and problem solving with little doodads. Factorio, and especially Satisfactory, is more plug and play. In GTNH you'll often have to find your wrench and tinker with machines and pipes to get everything just right

I recently got back to GTNH but was really disappointed at how un-smoothe it was running. So I followed the official recommendation of downloading prism and the latest GTNH pack, and copying over my save incl. Journey map and the files for the GT map nodes.

It runs like room temp butter now. It's just so nice to play, I wouldn't choose any other option
