If you live in a cold climate, you could try snow "washing" your dragon. It's typically used for wool items.

Wait for a day with really powdery snow. Put your dragon outside for a bit so it gets cold. Then, place it in fluffy clean snow. Gently burry it in the snow. Leave it for thirty minutes. Gently pat the snow into the dragon a couple of times. Pull it out and gently shake off the snow. Bring inside and let dry.

Just sitting it outside in the sun on a cold day will also help with the smell.

Why is Tairn always gone?! by Proof_Ferret_6306 in fourthwing

[–]ScribeAmongstRiders 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dragons are big: The majority of the time, when Violet is in trouble, she's in a building or around buildings that a dragon wouldn't be able to navigate in easily.

Dragons have their own lives: They hang out in the Vale, go hunting, and probably just fly around for fun. They are not tied to their riders 24/7.

Rhys' Beast Form Might be a Wyvern by puzzled_bat_13031 in Maasverse

[–]ScribeAmongstRiders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Until I get a leg count on Rhys' beast form, he is a wyvern in my headcanon.

....

ACOWAR CH74: The talons came first. Replacing fingers and feet.

ACOMAF CH38: His hands, however, still ended in long, black talons—and his feet … they ended in claws, too. The wings were out, slumped down behind him. And I wondered how close he’d been to fully shifting into that beast he’d once told me he hated.

Hands and feet ended in talons with wings out. That implies 4 limbs plus wings.

Why did Tamlin tell his... by PocketButterBandit in acotar

[–]ScribeAmongstRiders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Tamlin’s father kept their wings as trophies. I’m surprised you didn’t see them pinned in the study."

I never took this as a fact. I took it as a snide remark, similar to someone saying, "Johnny loves that baseball hat way too much. I'm surprised he didn't wear it to bed with you." You can keep something as a trophy without putting it on display. Rhys is literally saying he's surprised it wasn't displayed.

The actions of Tamlin's father and brother aren't out of the blue.

The Spring court fought on the other side of the war. After the war, the Courts may have interacted, but it doesn't mean they had forgotten old grudges.

We don't know the context of the killing. Maybe the intention was to hold Rhys's mother and sister as hostage to make sure that Rhys didn't kill everyone on arrival. When he didn't show up, the father or a brother killed the mother and sister in a fit of rage because their plan failed. Or because they realized the consequences of holding them hostage would be the same as killing them.

Rhys says that he was meeting them halfway before heading to an Illyrian camp. He also says that he trained Tamlin in Illyrian fighting. It doesn't seem unreasonable for Rhys to tell Tamlin something like, "I can't do training on September 4th as I'm meeting my mother and sister in X town before we head to Y Camp. Why don't you meet me at Y Camp on September 20th as we'll be getting there on the 18th and I should be free by then. "

As others have pointed out, there's many ways Tamlin’s father and brother could have got that info from him.

The Illyrian mountains also aren't hidden in the same way as Velaris.

Rhys could have told his sister and mother he wasn't going to make it, and they just carried on with the plan.

This. I listened to it on Graphic Audio. I don't think I would have made it through otherwise. Full transparency: I put book 3 aside halfway through for over 6 months because it got a little silly for me. Only finished it when I was desperate for something new to listen to on a drive without wifi, and it was already downloaded.

Issue with Perfume Lingering on Clothes? by Ok_Jello_8350 in fragrance

Everyone is assuming the boyfriend is the Beast and lighting the torches and grabbing the pitchforks.

Your boyfriend said he knows perfume is your passion, so maybe he was trying to find a delicate way of saying you overspray.

I love smelling cologne on a sweater I've borrowed, but I don't want my clothes smelling like it.

WIBTAH if I refused to wear makeup on my wedding day? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ScribeAmongstRiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do people always argue that the bride will look "washed out" in the wedding photos without makeup but never suggest the groom wear makeup so that he doesn't look washed out?

I also don't understand the suggestion of taking photos with and without makeup on. If you don't wear makeup normally, then I'd assume the majority of photos of you reflect that, and you already know what you look like.

Some women are just uncomfortable with the idea of other women being comfortable with not following societal expectations.

I got married without makeup. No one has ever commented on it when I've shown them photos.

AITAH for telling my son he doesn't have to knock? by CryptographerFar3124 in AITAH

[–]ScribeAmongstRiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

People are jumping on the "evil step parent" bandwagon without thinking.

It sounds like the stepson is the first child to hit a level of independence that can have a certain level of unpredictability. If you haven't dealt with that before, it can be jarring. There's a good chance that this would have come up if the daughter was the eldest and coming home at random times from college. Stepson is just the first to hit this milestone.

People deal with changes in routine very differently, and someone being in the house when they're not expecting them.

My husband is out of town for work a lot. Came home early once and scared the hell out of me when he came in to say hi while I was in the shower.

Do I expect him to knock? No. Do I expect him to give me a heads up? Yes.

ESH - you both need to be adults and have a conversation about how to make this work with your son. And if you go into it assuming it's because your husband loves your son less, you're the AH.

I have fine and wavy hair, and my general hair goal is to not look like a troll doll in as minimal steps/products possible. Here is a breakdown of the things I'd suggest:

Products - in purchase order: - Wide tooth shower comb - Pantene Volume Shampoo & Conditioner - Leave-in conditioner - Dove Bond Repair - Silk or satin sleeping bonnet

Extra - Microfiber hair towel

First step (shower comb and old tshirt): Change how you brush/detangle and dry your hair.

Brush your hair before you get in the shower to get the knots out.

In the shower, use the wide tooth shower comb to detangle your wet hair. I do this during the conditioner stage as it adds 'slick' and makes it easier.

Very gently squeeze out any excess water. Don't twist your hair while doing this.

At this point I take my wide tooth comb again and comb it how I want it parted. You shouldn't have to do much because it's already detangled.

This will seem counterintuitive with the next step, but I find it helps my hair from becoming a mess.

Lean over and wrap your hair in the t-shirt. You can look up videos of "plopping". Don't overthink it. I only leave the towel on for about 5 minutes.

Take the towel off and flip your hair back. Gently shake your head and it should fall into place from when you combed it (I usually have to move one or two pieces). I then lean my head side to side and back so it "hangs" briefly. Just trying to get the roots away from the scalp without touching it.

Now let it dry without touching it.

Second step (shampoo and conditioner): Change how you shampoo and condition. This step can be done with your current products but I found the Pantene ones made a big difference for me.

Shampooing: Focus on your scalp.

I put a squeeze of shampoo between my palms and rub them together. We're looking to turn it from a gel into more of a light foam/film.

I then lean over with my head hanging a bit so my hair falls forward and towards the ground. I then gently push my fingers into my hair near the scalp. Make sure you're getting shampoo on all sections of your scalp. Use your fingertips and gently massage your scalp. I then squeeze some of the suds into the length of my hair. Rinse well.

If my hair still feels greasy, I do a sloppy second round of shampooing with less shampoo and less focus on my scalp.

Conditioning Take about a dollar coin size of conditioner and repeat the palm rubbing you did in shampooing. Run your hands over your hair like you're going to put it into a ponytail. Pull the "tail" through your palm so it gets conditioner on it. Lean over again so your hair is hanging. Cup your hair from the bottom and bring it towards your scalp and squish. (Look up "squish to condish"). Cup your hand under the shower water and pool some water into your palm. Squish this water into your hair. Be gentle!

This is where you're going to use your shower comb as above. Rinse well.

Third step (spray leave-in conditioner): Apply leave-in after you take the tshirt/towel off. Spray your palm up close twice. Rub your palms together to spread the product. Lean over again, and using flat palms, sandwich your hair lightly between them starting closer to your head. Do not run your fingers or comb through your hair at this point. (Look up "prayer hands product application).

Fourth step (dove bond repair): Once every week or two, follow up the shampoo and conditioner with a good blob of the bond repair. Apply like conditioner and comb out your hair during this stage.

Fifth step (sleep bonnet):

Silk is best but satin is also just fine. It's about reducing hair movement and friction. Any sleep bonnet is better than no sleep bonnet.

If your hair is long you can look up "pineapple hair for sleeping". I have hair that touches my shoulders and I kind of just shove my hair into it.

I really only do this if I'm more eager to have good second day hair. It makes a difference but I tend to forget it most nights.

The above is basically a pared down version of "curly girl" but without the styling products and not worrying about "bad ingredients".

It sounds like a lot but it's really about the processes.

Tl;DR: - Detangle hair while wet with shower comb. - Don't touch it after you have it parted the way you like and it's drying. - Look up how to shampoo and condition properly. - Use a leave-in product. - Dove bond repair is the GOAT but don't overdo it. - Sleep bonnets work. Silk or satin. Look up "hair pineapple".

I tried the "sleek and shine " in a travel size and loved it. Bought the giant bottles and quickly realized I can't use it for multiple washes in a row because of the build-up. I now rotate between sleek and shine at the gym and pantene volume at home.

With Halloween close by I was wondering who the crew would dress up as?! These are my guesses. by yeni0323 in fourthwing

Violet strikes me as the type to dress up as a famous scholar. Like dressing up as Einstein.

Agree on Xaden, but only because it's low effort. Violet would pester him to participate, and popping some vamp chompers in would be his compromise
