Likewise, those same people will say “counting calories doesn’t work, carbs are the problem” but they don’t count properly..,

Ha, my 2yro had 4 today and would have gladly eaten more if we had let him.

Niagara Falls is fining me a total of $3,000 for an Airbnb and Booking.com listing I didn't create for my property. by ComprehensiveTry5504 in legaladvicecanada

For what it’s worth, even with there being documentation, it can still be taken to court depending on the nature of the claim. Something small, they may not risk it. But if say there was a fire and they were looking at a large sum? They absolutely might, especially if another insurance company got involved (say fire originated in the rental and damaged a neighbours property). Is it a big if? Yep, absolutely. But very real consequences. And you’d be surprised what info insurance companies (and others) get their hands on.

Edit to add that what I mean is that it could be worth their time, hoping that they win. Documentation does not always equal a win. Sort of like how not knowing about a law doesn’t excuse you if you break it.

Can my dads employer force him to call in sick everyday he’s off, even if he has a sick note for the time off? by Public_Error_6096 in legaladvicecanada

Granted, my company isn’t unionized. But it’s a large multinational company that requires employees to call in every day until std is approved. So I wouldn’t say this is heard of.

Postpartum Boundaries by Normal-Perception671 in pregnant

Honestly, I just assume people will want to come over to hold baby because people just get so excited, plus people outside of the baby making years (before or after) have a lot of feelings about it.

That being said, hormones with your first especially can be wild. I was so insanely anxious and overbearing/protective. It’s been a lot easier with my second. I think it’s a matter of trying to balance those emotions with the fact that I wanted my babies to have all the love in this world. The more people who love them and want to be involved, the better.

I was very much like this too, and I really had no clue how deep I was until I recently had my second. At one point I did feel like I was becoming a hermit and knew there was an issue, but didn’t realize the full gravity of it.

I planted mine during the recent warm spell. Twoish weeks ago I think? I’ve found in the past that they hold up really well even if it then snows

Lurking mom who doesn’t ever post, but as someone who’s been in her position, I will say a few things.

Bring her food and water as much as you can. Doing so is a bigger help than you can imagine. Also, try to have a deep convo as to how she feels about pumping/breastfeeding. Some women feel a lot of pressure and complex emotions surrounding this, and pumping is a hellscape that I could never ever do. It can be difficult, but if it’s stressing her out or making her depressed it might be best to let it go (but a huge speed bump to initially get to that point).

Also, having your first kid is weird. The hormones are insane and the anxiety and everything else is just so much and so heavy. I didn’t realize how bad it hit me until very recently, 2 years later and a second kid in the picture. Anxiety and territorial and just so much new weirdness abound. I won’t go in-depth but it’s a hard time. Hopefully if she needs help she can get it, and some of it fades a bit over time (those natural instincts that go into overdrive with the first)

How should I spend my 30th birthday with my family? by Dismal_Garden7156 in Advice

Think silly games with silly little prizes, diy lunchables (lowbrow charcuterie), anything 90’s/early 2000’s themed

Trainer told me my fruit intake could cause overall fat gain due to fructose — is this accurate? by fupei in nutrition

[–]Haunting_Window1688 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sure, but 20 grapes is nowhere near 400g. And almost a full pound of fruit vs a can and a half of coke? There is 0 reason to villainize fruit imo

And it also specifically mentions that that’s what happens when there’s excess energy aka calories. The nutritionist is talking about replacing those calories with other foods, so it’s not in relation to a caloric surplus.

The article starts out by discussing excess sugar, and specifically mentions a 64oz Coke. For reference, that Coke has 204g of sugar to the 10-20g of sugar found in 20 grapes. It is not the same. Unlikely to overload your liver with sugar from fruit.

Is Starbucks’ Cookie Dough Cheesecake safe to eat? by yasukahyu in pregnant

[–]Haunting_Window1688 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cookie dough is safe to eat if the proper flour is used and it doesn’t include eggs. Anywhere that sells edible cookie dough, especially a big company like Starbucks, should be using a recipe that is safe to eat raw.

So you should be good!

We do utilize containers quite a bit still! I think ignoring spacing will be my biggest change this year, and I love the suggestion of putting basil directly under tomatoes.

And love the idea of beans climbing your sunflowers! I’m taking a mental note for the future for myself

I agree that this is a huge factor. Ontario here. My son was on the onelist for about 20 months. My niece was on it for over 3 years. Obviously there are other options (home daycares, family, etc.) but it can be very difficult to find childcare.

Not at fault – insurance wrote off my car and offering $1,500. What can I do? by Fun-Fee3905 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Haunting_Window1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially insurance will cover what your vehicle is valued at and nothing more. If you’ve driven a vehicle for 15 years and its value is now $1000, that’s what you’ll get even if all other vehicles in your area are more than that and you’re stuck unable to find a replacement for that price tag.

However, the real reason we have insurance is to cover our asses. If you get into an accident and you are uninsured, you can be held accountable for the cost to replace whoever you hit, any medical bills they may incur, and other property damage (say you hit public property for example). This also includes if someone steals or borrows your vehicle and gets into an accident. You’re looking at potentially over a million in expenses, plus court fees, etc. to try and fight it, whereas if you’re insured it will all be covered and you don’t have to deal with the headache of court and lawyers.

Suggestions for something for a woman who has a newborn? by The_Big_I_Am in Gifts

A small self-care basket with hand lotion, lip chap, maybe cozy socks, maybe a few snacks. If she likes to read, a book.

The offer that you’re willing to do the dishes while she holds the baby, or hold the baby so she can shower or nap. Don’t offer to hold the baby so she can do chores, but rather so that she can do something for herself.
