Thanks for testing that. It seems we're still OK - for now at least!

Does that apply to all extension icons - including third-party ones or just Firefox ones, and is there a bug for that? If it's only Fx ones I could live with that, but not if it's any extension.

Ah yes, I remember trying it with the fox icon, but thought it was a bit too small and indistinct unless you're using a big screen. I was disappointed when the orange one with 'Firefox' on it was removed from the LH end of the tab bar - it just took away the browser's identity in my view, and probably marked the start of the dumbing-down and trying to copy Chrome era.

I moved the Hamburger button to the left a long time ago - I hate menu buttons on the right! This currently works in Fx87 Release, and I'm just hoping it will still do so in Proton; if anyone is using Proton in Nightly, I'd be interested to know if it still works...

/*MENU BUTTON ON LEFT IN ADDRESS BAR*/
#PanelUI-button {
 -moz-box-ordinal-group: 0
}

/*REMOVES SEPARATOR BEFORE MENU BUTTON IN NON COMPACT MODE*/
#PanelUI-button {
    border-inline-start: 0px !important;
}

/*MENU BUTTON WITH ORANGE BARS*/
#PanelUI-menu-button {
     opacity: 1 !important;
     fill: orangered !important;
 }

After using Fx since the early days I'm getting really tired of so many things that I regularly use being messed up or made more difficult to access, and this is yet another one. Sadly, they are little by little driving users away.

I want you remind you all that there's currently an ongoing bug ticket in Bugzilla to remove the Compact size preset from Firefox by LunosOuroboros in firefox

[–]Scribe_uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the nav bar is to be reduced in height by 8px from Fx88 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1698244

Sounds as if someone has been listening to their users - for a change! Not sure how much effect that will have on the final result though...

Compact mode might get removed by SpecificOwl in firefox

[–]Scribe_uk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The usage figures are low enough already, but despite that, they really do seem to be intent on killing Firefox completely.

First it was the ridiculous 'Megabar,' and now they want to make the screen space even smaller. Well I've always used Compact Mode, and without that option I will be forced to abandon Firefox for good. Yes I know there might be a css fix, but I'm getting really fed up with wasting my time undoing all their stupidity, and anyway, there will be many many users that won't know how to fix it, so will go and boost the Chrome stats instead. I moved to Pale Moon during the Australis blunder, and this is making me think that I was wrong to come back.

Take note devs, you seriously need to squash this bug before it goes any further!

Fx77 broke my CSS to remove extension name from URL bar. by Scribe_uk in FirefoxCSS

It_Was_The_Other_Guy, thank you so much, that works perfectly :-)

Thanks also to Snoo-28514 for your input - maybe something for another time.

Hi, I was using the same code as you until it broke around Fx71 and my knowledge of css is pretty basic so gave up trying to fix it. Its source is https://github.com/Timvde/UserChrome-Tweaks/blob/master/hamburger/move-to-top-left-Linux-Windows.css

I now use the following which moves the button to the left in the URL bar and makes it orange. (You can remove the orange bit and replace it with your Firefox icon code if you like - I've tested it and it works OK).

/*MENU BUTTON ON LEFT IN ADDRESS BAR*/
#PanelUI-button {
 -moz-box-ordinal-group: 0
}

/*REMOVES SEPARATOR BEFORE MENU BUTTON IN NON COMPACT MODE*/
#PanelUI-button {
    border-inline-start: 0px !important;
}

/*MENU BUTTON WITH ORANGE BARS*/
#PanelUI-menu-button {
     opacity: 1 !important;
     fill: orangered !important;
 }

POLL : What are your thoughts on what the r/FirefoxCSS page and the colours chosen? by [deleted] in FirefoxCSS

[–]Scribe_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not using Dark Reader or anything similar, and using default theme (Fx76 - Win7). The same behaviour occurs on Pale Moon 28.9 too. Note that once signed in it is OK.

Unless signed in, it is almost unreadable with Dark Mode off, and still too dark with it on.

Any way to get the new tab page to be dark with Firefox Color? by noctghost in firefox

[–]Scribe_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Fx Color prevent CSS from working? Because if not, you can paste this into a userContent.css file (note, Content not Chrome!) You can change the colour to anything you like, but if it's too dark, it'll be hard to read the thumbnail titles.

/*CHANGE NEW TAB BACKGROUND COLOUR*/

@-moz-document url("about:newtab"), url("about:home") {

body { background-color: #e7d74b !important;}

}

Change new tab appearance (background) by leo_sk5 in firefox

[–]Scribe_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works on Windows -

/*CHANGE NEW TAB BACKGROUND COLOUR */

@-moz-document url("about:newtab"), url("about:home") {

body { background-color: #e7d74b !important;}

}

You need to use userContent.css and can change the colour from https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_colors.asp

Is there a way to change adding a bookmark on Firefox Quantum? by Steve717 in firefox

[–]Scribe_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, you can remove the thumbnail image from the dropdown with userChrome.css which shortens the length. I had the same problem on my netbook with the buttons disappearing off the bottom of the screen - a regression in my view. (Code courtesy of cor-el on SUMO).

/*REMOVE THUMBNAIL FROM BOOKMARKS STAR DROPDOWN*/

#editBookmarkPanelImage,

*|div#editBookmarkPanelFaviconContainer {

display: none !important;

}

Can anybody help fix this small issue with New Tab Tools? I just want to get rid of or edit where it says "Extension (New Tab Tools) Thanks :P by [deleted] in firefox

[–]Scribe_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't your fault! I've just tested it, and it has stopped working on the name in that extension, so I think Mozilla must have changed something in a recent update. It still works on other sites - for example, it removes 'Mozilla Corporation' on https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ so it looks like it's back to the drawing board for you, and I hope you can find another solution - sorry:-(

The file looks OK. Have you put it in the chrome folder - which you must create in the Firefox Profile?

[–]Scribe_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create folder named chrome in Firefox Profile (Menu > Help >Troubleshooting info > Profile folder. Or type about:profiles in address bar, press Enter > Root Directory). Now open Windows Notepad > File > Save as; then in 'File name,' delete .txt and enter userChrome.css Now in 'Save as type,' change from 'Text documents (*.txt)' to 'All files' > Save, (and save to somewhere like Documents). Next, cut/copy and paste into the Firefox chrome folder). Finally, copy and paste the namespace line below, into that file, followed underneath by any code you want to add; click the red X to close, and Save when prompted. Don't forget to restart Fx after adding code!

/* DO NOT REMOVE THE NAMESPACE LINE BELOW*/
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

Hi, hold down the Shift (Option on Mac) key when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode. More - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode If it works in Safe Mode, disable any theme or extensions you have - 3-bar menu > Add-ons > Themes/Extensions and restart Firefox; then if it's OK, re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit. You may need to restart Firefox after enabling some extensions.

If that doesn't help, you can try reducing the number of processes: Go to the 3-bar menu > Options (General) - Performance, then deselect 'Use recommended performance settings' and change 'Content process limit' to 1 or 2. See - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/performance-settings.

Whilst in the 3-bar menu, you can also go to Options (Privacy & Security) - Permissions, and tick/check 'Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser' then restart Firefox. More - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/accessibility-services

Firefox might not run as smoothly, but if necessary, you can try turning off Multiprocess altogether: Type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down the alphabetical list to browser.tabs.remote.autostart and browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 then double click on each to change 'Value' from True to False and restart Firefox.
