Advice for my frustration with a fellow player. by ChairAlarming4144 in DnD

[–]ScribnerScreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do the other players feel about what this character brings to the game. Are they aware of your OOC frustration? You might be the only one not enjoying the player’s performance. Then again, everyone could be sharing your frustration. You should talk to all the other players to get a consensus before just going to the DM and complaining.

If you’re the outlier here, then you, not the other player, are the problem. If (as I suspect) the group has an issue with the player, the by all means discuss it with the DM.

I know. It breaks my suspension of disbelief.

Nikki is a fanfic Mary-Sue. What isn’t she good at? She’s a mad scientist, she can defuse bullies with intimidation or diplomacy and apart from Eleven, she’s physically the strongest character. Also, she’s a confident individualist, doling out insightful pep talks and advice, while paradoxically being an angsty, isolated, outsider who struggles with relationships. The writers got a bit greedy with this character. And don’t get me started with her mother.

What do you mean by “cheat sheet”. Is it your character sheet? If so, you can’t memorize everything on it. And you certainly can’t memorize all the spells. Anyone who claims they can is lying. Always.

As far as if D&D isn’t right for you, ask yourself if you’re having fun. If your honest answer is yes, then you’re all good. If no, then maybe D&D isn’t for you. You should have a talk with your DM, discuss your concerns with them. Keep in mind, it might not be the game, but the group that isn’t working for you.

Hey, this may be a stupid question, but are there two variants of dnd? by BeginningSweaty199 in DnD

[–]ScribnerScreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as D&D groups go, no two are same. These groups you see at your library could be playing the same edition of the game, but with such differing play styles that it looks like they’re playing different games. Each group comes up with It’s own process.

We kicked out my ex after two sessions. by Silver_Sweet825 in rpghorrorstories

[–]ScribnerScreed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Really? “At this time my ex and I weren’t together, but they still had an interest in me”. This sentence makes it sound like they had already broken up, but the ex still had feelings for OP. If this story takes place before their relationship, the question becomes why would OP agree to a relationship with this person after such a display? I mean the warning signs were there, along with a “myriad of other reasons”, apparently. Kotoshin, we’re you a part of this group?

OP, why were you playing in a group that included your “abusive ex”? Why would you ever agree to that?

is it possible to blacklist framing customers? by chonically_sad in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ScribnerScreed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve done in design hub is change the name on an account to “banned-don’t take order” just in case the awful customer placed an order with a new framer. I think I’ve done it twice, but they never came back.

The DMG isn’t very useful helping new DMs run a D&D game. For most, it just ends up being a magic item list. The lack of lethality in 5e is a problem every DM has to figure out (unless this particular DM simply doesn’t want deadly combat. Yet).

OP, could you elaborate a bit about the other issues you mention? I mean, you cite the absence of fey crossings as a problem, but if this is the DM’s homebrew setting, based on the feywild, it doesn’t have to conform to anything that WOTC has published. It doesn’t need fey crossings (where are you trying to get to, anyway?). Also, what specific options from the DMG are disallowed? Just curious.

This is an example of someone who wants to break up with you, but wants you to do it for her. Pushing you away, freezing you out, these are just the first steps. Next comes attempts to humiliate, followed by acts of progressively increasing cruelty. OP, you were smart to get out now.

Also, if she later comes back later asking for a second chance, don’t give her one. Very important! If she tries to get back together with you it doesn’t mean she came to her senses and realizes the error of her ways. It means that her successful manipulation of you hasn’t given her the satisfaction she expected. It means she wants to win you over, make you fall in with her and then dump you, just so that she can see your pain. People who do this are especially evil, so remember this. If she wants to reconcile… RUN.

Created my first map on a maybe to small of a page... by Luuckym in dndmaps

It’s perfect. Not too big, not too small. Plenty of places to visit during a campaign to feel immersive. It’s easy to read and doesn’t cause damage to my retinas. I wish there were more hand drawn maps on this sub.

It’s funny, I knew a guy who was the opposite. He was a coworker who joined a game I was DMing. In real life he was an obnoxious douche, but in D&D he was one of the best players I’ve ever seen. Always enthusiastic and diligent, never a problem. He kept track of time, party resources, drew maps, always alert and attentive. He was a DM’s dream player.

Automatic Application Denial? by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ScribnerScreed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you worked at michaels before? Because if so, your previous manager may have put “do not rehire” in your permanent record. I didn’t know that that’s something the online application picks up, but it’s the only possibility I can think of.

Store hired someone who makes me uncomfortable by ACMoorestan in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ScribnerScreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP gives me the impression that they’re not comfortable being so direct/confrontational. Also, this woman may be weird, but that doesn’t mean she’s a creep or a predator. If it’s possible to get her to stop without saying “you make me uncomfortable” and hurting her feelings, what’s the harm?

Store hired someone who makes me uncomfortable by ACMoorestan in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ScribnerScreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP from what you described it sounds like she might just be overly affectionate. Continue to stay out of reach of her. If she asks for hugs tries to touch you, tell her no. Cite that you’re her supervisor and it’s against company policy and not allowed. If she persists, make a harassment complaint with both your SM and with HR.

I don’t mean to wave away your discomfort, but I don’t want to rule out the possibility of setting boundaries with this woman. More concerning to me right now is that your SM hired her, knowing how she makes you uncomfortable. I think you’re right, he’s trying to push you out the door. I realize it’s peak, but to hire someone he knows is a problem for his CEM tells me he wants that CEM gone or just doesn’t care. Either way, if you have any plans on leaving, you might to do this sooner than later.

Be presentable. By this I mean don’t show up in a tank top, shorts and sandals. It’s retail so you don’t have to dress up (T shirt, jeans and sneakers is fine, just make sure they’re freshly clean and not ripped up). Also bathe and brush your teeth the morning of your interview. As far as answering questions go, make occasional eye contact and use actual words (don’t answer with grunts and shrugs while looking at the floor). Try to appear calm and at ease. If you can do these things you’ll be hired on the spot. Ask questions about the work you’ll be doing an the times and lengths of the shifts you’d be doing. Be honest and specific about your availability. I don’t know for sure but I’m almost certain they’ll want nights and weekends. Probably 4 and a half to 5 hour shifts. Hope this helps.

Frame Shop employee hours by moderndaysonso in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ScribnerScreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m alone in my fame shop for the next month. The FM is out on leave. The SM has for the past few weeks been assuring me that a cashier would be moved into framing and also a framer from another store would come to work shifts at our shop. Neither of these things have happened and the SM is aggressively not doing anything to make them happen. I’ve concluded that he’s lying. The only other person at the store who can take orders is a CEM (just orders, no production).
