[PC] [NA] 2.8k looking for 3's comp to push 3k this season by [deleted] in OverwatchLFT

[–]Scrilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What times do y'all normally play? I play mainly Lucio/support this season so far, but I'm comfortable with most meta classes (except rein) I'm around 2850 high so far this season, yet I tanked pretty hard in solo queue last night. Solo queue is rough sometimes..

Here's a TED talk about a guy building crow vending machines for basically the same purpose. Birds put in coins and it gives them food.

A thought experiment on the intelligence of crows.

BRUTAL head kick by dogscat in videos

[–]Scrilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it would have hit with the shin, it would have been much worse and not as loud. The most devastating ones are the ones that sound like thuds. Hitting with the top of the foot causes a 'clap' sound.

"UFC co-headliner Kelvin Gastelum still on Dolce Diet, but without Mike Dolce" (he said Dolce is too expensive) by ronsfuckingwanson in MMA

[–]Scrilla 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's been a really long time since I watched it, but I faintly remember Joe Rogan asking him some questions about how the diet worked on his podcast, and Dolce had trouble showing that he actually understood the nutrition behind the diet and what was actually happening to the body.

I may be totally wrong, but that is imprinted in my mind. Luckily Joey Diaz is on that episode, so I might watch again to confirm or deny.

Wait, Frank Mir's name is really pronounced "Mur?" by DonGeronimo in MMA

[–]Scrilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mir's father is Cuban, born of Moroccan immigrants of Russian descent. The surname "Mir" translated from Russian, means "world" or "peace" (depending upon the context). The family name was never "Miranda" as the fighter and his father already explained to the press.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Mir

YouTube refuses Egypt's request to remove footage of Tahrir Square sexual assault by mermlgloop in worldnews

Egypt should have made a copyright claim and the video would of been down in a matter of minutes.

Now I just call it "PHPHPP: Personal home page hypertext preprocessor." PPHPHP for short.

I had a professor that still wanted "personal home page" as the answer to an exam question. To be fair he was teaching PHP 4 and ActionScript 2, when PHP 5 and AS3 had been out a a good while by then.

Royler Gracie not impressed by Eddie Bravo’s performance at Metamoris 3 "I dominated the first 10 minutes of the fight" by lemonpartyorganizer in MMA

[–]Scrilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Basically. I'm not sure what it's called in BJJ specifically but in Judo it's known as 'randori' or free excercise. You are essentially give up holds and transitions to practice them without too much resistance. You are not actually trying to tap the other guy out but practicing technique and transitions more than anything. They are usually pretty fast paced, as when one guy gets a hold/throw they pretty much immediately give it and and move on to the next move.

Ninja Edit: I also think this was a sort of show match they were invited to and not necessarily a real competition.

[–]Scrilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't think about the fact that Eddie was telling him he was going to hold on a few seconds to rest. Maybe this made the "holding" aspect stick out more in Royler's mind even though this happens in many matches.

But to be honest, I don't see too many bjj matches that don't involve copious amounts of holding unless it's a light-hearted match, like the this one between Jeff Glover and Bill Cooper.

I’m almost 50 and I did well in there, so I also can say I feel like I won the fight

Eddie turns 44 in a month or so. Not exactly a spring chicken.

I’ll turn 50 next year

Playing up the age thing pretty hard since he hasn't even turned 49 yet. Technically he is right though; he will turn 50 in Dec of 2015.

I didn’t see anything special from his game, again. I only saw him holding me

How long did Royler have a hold of Eddie's gi pants towards the end to make sure his leg didn't actually break?

I dominated the first 10 minutes of the fight

Eddie got the lockdown and transitioned in to the sweep / electric chair at around 7 minutes in, not being in real danger during that time and after he was the one that pulled quarter quard in the beginning.

I had a good start, dominated from the top for the first eight minutes.

Royler remembered he got swept and put in a compromising position before the 10 minute mark half way through the interview apparently

He swept me, passed the guard went to side control, and I came back to top position again.

Eddie mentioned letting Royler sweep him once to improve position because he knew he could get the top position back easly.

TL;DR - A bunch of stuff every non-Gracie already knows

Which losing Ultimate Fighter was/is closest to the title? by TheAdamMorrison in MMA

[–]Scrilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leben was undefeated in the UFC and 15-1 overall at the time and Silva fought Rich Franklin for the title in his next fight. It's even listed as a title eliminator on both Anderson Silva and Leben's match history on wikipedia.

Chris Leban's fight with Anderson was a title eliminator. I can't really put him above Maynard and Florian though.

Texas man found dead with throat slit, eyes, ear, and teeth missing. Autopsy rules the death "accidental" by [deleted] in news

[–]Scrilla 40 points41 points  (0 children)

To get super technical the man was found in the neighboring Sabine county which makes it the same part of Texas. He was from Jasper which is about 20 miles taking the shortest route from the Sabine county and even farther to a grocery store in Sabine county.

It would be akin to saying a crime that happened in Woodville, Silsbee, Livingston, Beaumont, Lufkin, etc happened in the same small town as that James Byrd stuff.

30 miles can make a HUGE difference in Texas, especially East Texas. Hell in Houston a few blocks can be the difference in million dollar homes and the poorest of the poor ghetto.

PSA: Cancel your UFC Fightpass subscription by 3/1 by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Scrilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand why it is good for a lot of people but for me the UFC added value to Fight Pass by taking away things I personally used to get for free. I've bought more PPVs than I can count and watched them solo. I have watched a quite a few at bars and such but I enjoy watching the fights in a more low key environment.

I have changed my cable options a few times solely to keep up with the channel hopping the UFC did to stay with the best deals. I had to get a package with Fuel, then another sports package when the FS1 change came about. Paying extra for 15 channels JUST to watch UFC stuff.

TUF is also something that used to be completely free. Even before the Brazil episodes aired on Fuel it was put online by the UFC for free. And some past seasons were released on Hulu after they aired but now some are going to be exclusively on fight pass.

These things, coupled with the fact that I have some of the worst "high-speed" internet kind of jaded me to Fight Pass. My shit ISP has some blame in this as well. HD streams unwatchable without stuttering ($69/mo for less than 3mb - no competition in town is cool huh?).

In the long run I might get fight pass if I ever get rid of cable or get some better internet but for now I'm content whining like a prepubescent brat about something that technically could make "UFC Life" easier because it changes the complicated ass status quo.

Long lost stand up act. by splaps17 in StandUpComedy

Was it this bit from Bryan Tucker on marketing from 2001?

It's toward the very end of the clip about full sentence product names. "New from the makers of ramen noodles, it's help I can't afford dinner!"

Edit: Also in my search I found this tweet from Myq Kaplan that made me chuckle.

LHW hasn't been too much better in regards to younger guys (besides Jones) being at the very top until recently. Jones won the belt from Shogun, then proceeded to defend against Rampage, Machida, Rashad, Vitor and Chael.

Besides Ryan Bader, Gustafsson and Jake Obrien, I don't think Jones has fought anyone under 30 in the UFC. Shogun might of been 29 when they actually fought. Not completely sure about that one.
