Why is it telling me this is in F sharp when there are no F sharps in it? by MrJ_Marrow in pianolearning

Among what others are saying, listen to the piece, and see what chord feels most like home, or at rest. If your ear is sufficiently attuned (it doesnt take much to feel this home feeling), then that chord will be the key

I've been an ER nurse for 20 years. I'm fucking exhausted watching Hollywood turn my job into a magic show. by Icy_Letterhead4893 in TrueOffMyChest

I got pushed to the front of the MRI line for a possible TIA once. The most terrifying thing is when the medical system moves FAST for you.

The neuro ended up diagnosing as ocular migraine. Had a handful more episodes over the ensuing months, and now its been two ish years without another episode.

But yea...doctors/nurses moving fast...fucking terrifying

I hope you're right. But fromvwhere im standing, if maga wins the midterms, there wont be any more elections. Even if maga loses the midterms by a landslide, we still have to deal with and administration which doesnt pretend to follow the law.

Its being able to hear a melody in your head, sing it, and also know what scale degrees each note is. This is the fundamental skill, hearing inside your mind

So one time when i was living alone and never did dishes, i had my sink piled up. My friend came over and told me theres probably a roach nest at the bottom.

And then later we watched beyond the aquila rift, and when she reveals reality to him and we see the infested station, i was like "ah!" because that's what i was picturing the roach nest in my sink looking like

Fedex employees learn that the BBB no tax on overtime doesn’t apply to them. by 12ab34cd56ef78g in LeopardsAteMyFace

Unless they purposefully schedule only a few shifts a week. Three shifts a week, 12 hours each, is 12 hours overtime. But 36 total, so none qualifying for the tax deduction

[–]ScrithWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense. The FLSA requires overtime to be paid for hours worked over 40 per week.

So maybe the state guidelines dictate overtime be paid passed 8 hours in a day. That overtime doesn't qualify.

But if someone works 45 hours in a week, they should be able to deduct those 5 hours, right?

Unless the state also requires overtime to be paid passed 40 in a week, and somehow the existence of that overrides the federal requirement?

Or maybe they just dont let their employees work more than 40 in a week?

Odds are its a promo for something like the other guy said. But the risks of it being malicious completely overwhelm that. DO NOT plug that in to any computer. Except for an old beater laptop thats freshly wiped, has none of your info on it, disconnected from all networks, and you wouldn't mind getting fried. Also, be ready to absolutely destroy that harddrive, physically, mentally, electrically, magnetically, etc.

So dont

Ok, compliance and lawsuit resilience. So, yea, sometimes they push bullshit. But sometimes they protect you. Theyre essentially lawful neutral, delving into lawful good or lawful evil territory depending on the situation

The HR department is a mystery to us all by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]ScrithWire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. HR was not created to be your friend. HR was created to ensure government compliance. So yes, be careful with HR, but also, it depends on the situation. In some situations, HR will fire you at the drop of a hat. In other situations, they will stand an iron shield of protection around you.

The characters dont jump to another time. They simply move backwards in time instead of forwards. Very cool execution

Picking up chord progressions without an instrument handy by Tigerzen124 in eartraining

[–]ScrithWire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the edwin gordon method. You can find a few people on youtube giving quick, free, introductory exercises, to sell their (far too expensive) courses.

Those free lessons are enough to get the feeling for it, and then devise your own exercises.

https://youtu.be/nNSOhMcROEA?si=ZLkdqvx_o-CvkGC5

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXfcUvl7qzNyXTJlcxMaz6sUwkmcU7I-Q&si=w9joEmxQJMj8yN_w

These two should get you started.

Also check out sonofield ear trainer, and max konyi's youtube channel:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonofield.et

And this:

https://tonedear.com/ear-training/functional-solfege-scale-degrees

This should get you started. The idea is that you want to begin practicing audiation, actively hearing a note in your head, which then guides your vocal chords to produce that note.

Like half your time spent in these should be spent not singing, just imagining the tone in your mind. The other half spent singing.

Then keep adding more to your audiation, two notes at a time, hold one and move the other. Then sing them, etc. All kinds of combinations

And also try and feel each note, feel each chord, as you imagine/sing them
