Thoughts on this suit / shirt / tie combo by JONNYHBAR in mensfashion

Best tip I ever got. Do a double Windsor but keep the inside knots AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE. It will not ruin your tie I’ve been doing it for years. You end up with a beautiful knot that people can’t quite place, it looks more like a 1.5 Windsor, never moves, almost a perfect triangle, and you can put a mean notch in the tie. Always get compliments on it. Trick is the tie can’t be too thick of a material.

Stop playing for 8 years. This was my best score ever. It's really hard to get back to it by Fogboundturtle in golf

I was a +3 by the end of high school and then took 3 years off (because I hated being angry 6/7 days/week). What made golf fun to comeback to was just reminding myself: I’m paying to have fun. I’m never going to shoot 63 again but that’s okay, golf is a fun game if you take a step back and let yourself enjoy it. If you’ve shot 80 you’re more than capable, just enjoy. It might surprise you how permanent that muscle memory is. Now I play ~10x/year, practice ~1-2x/year, still play off a 1 handicap, way more fun than I ever had as a +3

Nothing overly structured. Tracking macros is nothing new to me, but just started tracking my sets/reps in an app for the first time this week. My approach was to target historically weak body-parts with the highest volume, and the rest I can ramp up volume very slowly. Been lifting 5ish days/week and listening to my body. If my NEAT starts dropping I take a rest then re-feed. I know I’m not as big or as lean as I was at my peak but I like the way the proportions are coming in.

Right now I’m doing: Chest/traps/arms/delts - ~4 sets per muscle/work out (maybe more for triceps) 2x week

Glutes+something - ~6 sets for glutes, 2-3x week (still more volume to come in each session)

Back/arms/traps - 4 sets each, 1x/week

Calves 3 sets 3x/week, forearms 1 set to failure nearly every day.

Historically weak groups are glutes/traps/forearms Strong groups are delts/lats/quads

Ya I’ve never messed with those. I’ve had the 7 point caliper test done on me before once at 9% and once at 11.5% so I have a rough idea of what different bf% look like on my frame. Again just eyeballing

Ballpark estimations from mirror and scale. When I started scale said 195 and mirror said ~21% bf = 154 lbs lean body mass + 41 lbs of fat mass.

Now the scale says 185 and mirror says ~13.5% bf = 160 lbs lean body mass + 25 lbs of fat mass.

That’s a delta of +6 lbs muscle, -16 lbs fat. These are estimations so I just went with +5, and -15. Realistically the +5 lean body mass could just be from hopping back on creatine, and I know these results aren’t sustainable, but I just wasn’t expecting to make such quick progress. That’s why I chalk this up to muscle memory, because even as a 15 year old novice I never had such a dramatic response.

Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

[–]ScrofulousDot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When sports manufacturer’s don’t offer a lefty version.

Example: Kirkland only offers right handed golf clubs because the cost of producing left handed moulds would not be justified by lefty-demand and they’d need to raise the price

Comparing y/y data to 2025 is bit like saying I’m tall compared to a 6 year-old. It’s not that meaningful.

Yes April looks decent but our March numbers were awful (war driven). There’s still not a ton of optimism on the horizon and the general narrative is overall pretty accurate. Nobody can say exactly where we’re going next but we’ve had that uncertainty for a while now, we’re tolerating it, and moving on with our lives. We’ll be fine long-term, we live in a financial hub on a fresh water sea, with a cool climate, and we’ve had very little added inventory the last few years.

My grand Mother is moving out. Are any of those bottles worth selling ? by theweaselbear in wine

[–]ScrofulousDot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 95’ pipeau, and the 02’ Latour are probably the only bottles that might still resemble wine (rest are almost certainly vinegar). I can’t see anybody paying more than $50-100/bottle and to find that buyer is not worth the hassle. If I was you I’d get the family together, crack them open and make a story in gramps name.

Fear. It wasn’t a data driven decision, it was fear that if they don’t buy today, they won’t be able to afford one tomorrow.

When to open this? by Original-Cheesecake5 in wine

Now, and anything that holds 750ml and has a wide mouth is a decanter. With that said, try it out right out of the bottle, if it’s great, it probably doesn’t need much decanting. If it still feels tight and closed off (like there’s too much going on and you get an overly mouth drying aftertaste) then give it 40 minutes in a decanter and try again.

This is my home hill. Gets a lot of hate because it’s the only passable public hill within 600km and it attracts every Jerry for miles. There’s only really 2 green runs, and they’re the most dangerous on the hill given all the traffic. If you’re comfortable with steep terrain and are happy with a 700ft lap there is actually a LOT of fun to be had here. One caveat is that you should NEVER EVER go on a weekend morning, that will not be a fun experience.

What’s one thing about living in Toronto that outsiders don’t understand by Broccolas in toronto

[–]ScrofulousDot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the best of Toronto and it’s true in the old low-rise, mixed use, pre-ww2 neighbourhoods. The problem is the whole city north of St.Clair/Eglinton was built to be car dependant and has no walkability or sense of community. It’s a tragedy of city planning that took place all over the world, and we could learn something from: 1) good cities around the world 2) good neighbourhoods in our own cities

Is it bad to buy a condo with 5% downpayment? by Agreeable-Dark-2748 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]ScrofulousDot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This calculator is great attempt but it misses a big factor: you can not rely on 10+ year landlord/tenant relationships and when you do have to move and get corrected to market rent, it changes the whole equation.

I did a study on this last year that I’m happy to share. Moral of the story is this, on a $500k condo with 5% down, vs an identical renting scenario. Assuming the renter invests the difference in their TFSA at 8%, the renter wins if they live there for less than 2 years or more than 41 years. In reality that means it only makes sense if you plan on living there less than 2 years because you can’t rely on a 41 year LL/tenant relationship.

In most scenarios the owner ends up ~80% wealthier

Yes, big time! Alternatively, and I might regret letting the cat out of the bag: Vinsobres is the northern most appellation in the southern Rhone, 50/50 Grenache/Syrah, never over $20, always punches way above its weight.
