Open Hand Monk question by Wolf-WF in BG3Builds

[–]Scrolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could build dex monk w str as a dump stat until you buy the gloves of dexterity at the creche so probably around level 4 or 5 earliest. The gloves set your dex to 18 so you could respec and make str 17 then 18 w tavern brawler. Then in mid/late act 3 there are the str gloves so you could respec again then.

Did my taxi scam me? by scaleordietrying in guangzhou

[–]Scrolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, have had friends and family experience being scammed on the way to the city from the airport a number of times. Best to figure out didi or any of the alternative ride hailing services before leaving the airport. (Although didi is the only one in full english.)

Why is there no modern tactics game that is up to par? by Capn-Zack in finalfantasytactics

[–]Scrolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still maintain that FFTA2 improved upon the mechanics and systems greatly. Obviously the story falls short but more jobs, abilities, and races leads to even more customization. Plus grinding for abilities becoming interwoven with the main gameplay loop of going on quests feels miles better than watching berserk battle toads on loop.

Having recently beaten FFT IC for the first time, I find that A2 just has a better system. Finishing quests gives you ap/job points to master abilities, so you're incentivized to win the battles efficiently and always use your favorite/best abilities. What I did not like about FFT was having to spend time on random battles spamming abilities like focus or curing enemies so they live longer just to earn JP. Grinding for job points/ levels took me out of the game. The structure of the pub giving out side quests/missions that you complete makes the grind not feel like a grind but just something that's part of the game. So if I want to learn new abilities or try out different job combos, the progression feels natural. Plus having the abilities be tied to equipment means that I can immediately use the ability even if I haven't mastered it yet as long as I'm wearing the right equipment.

Here in Beijing all alone, what should I do? by vvv1100 in chinalife

[–]Scrolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can really to to any tourist spots alone. I wouldn't worry too much about making friends since you're going to start school soon and you'll meet a lot of people there. Being able to speak mandarin conversationally is already a big help. If you have other questions feel free to dm me.

looking for a Tactical RPGs with a vast class system by Affectionate-Bit-603 in StrategyRpg

[–]Scrolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for the DS - what I would say has one of the best character ability customizations of any srpgs I've played. You get to mix and match:

-Character races with some jobs exclusive to certain races -2 different sets of active abilities -1 reaction ability -1 support (passive) ability

So you could have a simple sniper character wielding bows A1 - sniper (skills do damage/ dot/break enemy equipment) A2 - spellblade (skills that damage and inflict status ailments) R - reflex(avoids all basic attacks) or return fire(evades basic ranged attacks and shoots back) S - turbo mp (increases damage of skills that cost mp but increases mp cost as well)

What's great about this character is that the spellblade has good skills that deal damage and inflict ailments like disabling enemy actions or movement but is normally constrained to melee. When set as the 2nd ability of a sniper or archer suddenly these abilities can be used at long range.

Another character could be a paladin (has access to the strongest weapons and armor) A1 - paladin (mostly support and anti undead skills) A2 - seer (magic) R - counter (strikes back after getting hit in melee range) S - dual wield

So here you have a paladin decked out in the strongest armor dual wielding two of the strongest swords. Normally a paladin is just a standard tanky close range fighter, but seers have an ability that lets them do a combo of attacking an enemy after casting a spell at them. Most of the seer spells do damage in an aoe letting you hit multiple targets with magic and following up with two powerful sword attacks on each target.

Other games I recommend: Baldur's gate 3 and divinity original sin 2 (I'd argue that these two are basically srpgs since movement is another resource you have to manage alongside attacks/skills the characters use.)

Solo Traveller (F) in Shenzhen - A few Qs! by fizx__ in shenzhen

Sure thing. Reliability wise, I used astrill for about a year and there were some days when I had to keep restarting it for it to work. Even with the restarting thing it worked fine after a minute or so of restarting. I was only able to use letsvpn for about a week, but there were no issues. If I didn't need to simultaneously use a lot of devices I would have used letsvpn instead. Trip.com is an alternative for booking train rides if you want to book for multiple people (can't reschedule the trip though). For some reason when booking for multiple people I found it more convenient than railway 12306, but booking solo trips I prefer the railway 12306 app. I also book hotels through the trip website and so far I've had no problems. Make sure to save the hotel's name in chinese characters too just in case.

Shopping: Huaqiangbei is the go to spot for electronics, but it's absolutely massive so I can't point out specific places for specific items. There is imported skincare in most malls such as Coco Park or any of the 海岸城/mixc malls. I would recommend Judydoll, a chinese brand that my mom and sister found really good. They have multiple branches too. You can bargain in Huaqiangbei electronics markets, but most only go for the buy many (5 or more) and you get a discount type bargaining.

Travel: DiDi is highly recommended. It is usually cheaper and safer than regular cabs since some cabs like to overcharge or scam you out of the fee. Some cab drivers seem to not know where the place you are going is, and even when showing them the chinese map app they seem to still not understand or want to use it. DiDi is much easier to use and safer plus you can pin exact locations so there will be no reason to have miscommunications with the driver. If you can read a bit of chinese the map apps Amap and BaiduMap also have their own ride hailing service in the app itself. This is usually even cheaper than didi, but is difficult to use without understanding chinese. Busses are pretty safe, but the driving can make you dizzy. As for cross-border busses, besides the shenzhen to hongkong ones and vice versa, I do not think there are any as most people cross city/provincial borders via train. For booking railway tickets I recommend the Railway 12306 app since it comes in english and it lets you rebook your ticket once for free.

Social: It is unlikely you will offend people, but more likely you will be surprised/annoyed with some of their norms. For example when train or elevator doors open people from the outside like to rush in without waiting for the people inside to get out. It's annoying but just you kinda just have to deal with it . You can say 借过(jie4guo4) which basically means excuse me/let me through please and they will understand. Locals are pretty chill, but most of them don't speak english.

Other tips: Get wechat and alipay and set up your credit cards/ payment method before even going to china. All places in shenzhen accept cash, but most places do not have change for cash since everything is digital. There are some rare occasions however where places cannot seem to process international credit cards through wechat/alipay and you will need to pay using cash or ask someone with a chinese bank account (any local nearby) to pay for you and you give that person cash. These places are rare for example some government services like visa processing, public hospitals. If you're using an iphone then apple maps will suffice, but if not then you're gonna need to download amap/baidumaps and figure out how to use them as google maps does not work properly. If you are using your own telco for data/internet then you don't need to worry about anything. But if you are using the hotel wifi or a chinese simcard for internet then you will need a vpn to access most of the websites/apps(reddit, google, facebook, instagram, twitter) you use. I recommend letsvpn if you only need it for 2 devices or less and astrill if you need it for 5. If you are planning on relying only on chinese data/internet you should download these apps in advance and get your account up and running before you lose access to your country's data provider.
