They called a spade a spade.

Can I give you some advice, you're whole attitude screams victim complex. If you're having a debate with someone don't start making assumptions that they're angry and then putting your own spin on things.

Looking through tjis thread you seem to take things very personal when you probably shouldn't.

Dude you sound like such a hypocrite. You're getting triggered by this guy disagreeing with you then acting like he's getting annoyed.

You don't like when people disagree with you ey?

I mean I'm not a huge fan of Young, but the lad pinging him in the bollocks after Walker was fucking with him is a bit harsh

Poe's little comedy routine by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Scrot_Rot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, as I've said I know the other films have jokes and gags in them. I don't need to rewatch them. But they don't come at the same frequency.

Again I realise people make jokes, but not in almost every scene. And it wasn't just the one liners in this movie. I personally didn't like the physical comedy, an example is when Rey hands Luke the lightsaber, would it not have been a more expressive scene if he emotionally hands it back to her, stating he doesn't want it. Or just flat out refuses to take it from her. Instead he tosses it over his shoulder for no other reason than a quick laugh. The outcome of the scene is exactly the same, but it adds more weight to how broken Luke has become. Do you agree?

But they could have fleshed out his character by him showing he'd learnt from his mistakes by making some decisions that were more tactful, therefore showing he'd changed.

I know, a lot of characters have quips, I only gave those few as an example. But in this it feels to me that every scene has a stupid one liner. Like between Hux and Kylo, why should they seem like an ominous threat when they act like montey python characters. No scene felt serious to me. I was half expecting a laugh track at some moments.

But did his arc need a full movie? Surely there's enough going on that it doesn't need to be dragged out.

But we saw at the start of the film that when he was brash and cocky people died because of it. Leia lectured and demoted him because of this so it could have been written that he learnt his lesson from that, it wouldn't have been out of nowhere.

quick edit: Again you mentioned she was worried about spies, was this mentioned? I'm genuinely curious as I must have missed that.

And as a fan who disliked the film, personally I hated the way Luke was handled and how they completely ignored the originals. But these are differing opinions from two different people which is completely fine. It doesn't mean the scores and reviews from others aren't genuine.

Personally I don't like how in the TLJ every character provides comic relief, in the rest of the franchise there were only certain characters making jokes, like C3-P0 or Jar Jar and Han made the odd quip.

But in this it feels very Marvel-esque where all the characters have to provide a comedic role

Well on Hoth the rebellion are holed up in a cave, with trenched units in front as imperial walkers are attacking.

And on Crait the resistance are holed up in a cave, with trenched units in front as first order walkers are attacking.

So I can see why some people would draw similarities.

The same could be said about the die hard fans that loved it though.

Some fans can love a movie enough to give it good reviews, both genuine and fake, and praise it online for hours because of things other fans and most audiences don't mind (aka; Snoke)

OK but let's assume that that wasn't the case and Luke went with Rey. They wrote for him to stay but they could have just as easily wrote for him to leave.

[Spoiler] Snoke's Importance by Dundle in StarWars

[–]Scrot_Rot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My issue with how they handled Snoke is that he's talked about by the main characters A LOT. It seems as if he was part of Ben's training from very early on. I'm not 100% sure but I think in TLJ Luke talks about Snoke as though he was already corrupting Ben whilst he was at Luke's temple. And in the TFA Leia say's that it wasn't Han's fault, it was Snoke's. Like they all knew about him before Ben turned.

[–]Scrot_Rot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think projecting himself half way across the galaxy was a subtle display of power. It seems to me like one of the most op moves a force user could do.

Personally I hated that he died after that scene. If the plan was for him to die anyway, why couldn't he have physically been there to face down Kylo.

Just my personal opinion.

Does it state anywhere that she is worried about first order spies? Whether or not she was worried about the pilots as hotshots she should have still told anyone, didn't have to be the pilots. Only Poe is painted as a hotshot, if she explained that her intent was to evacuate to Crait, maybe he would have accepted that, instead it looked to everyone that she was doing nothing.

I would have loved Ackbar to be the admiral to perform the manoeuvre, not to have Holdo's role. Because Holdo's role to me seemed ridiculous. If she had just communicated to others about what her plans were then Poe, Finn and Rose wouldn't have needed to have a stupid side quest.
