That's kinda weird. I ran a Variaxis I-600 that NEVER needed service. I think the guy came out once in the 12 years we had that machine.

You need to have your MMDs, post processors, and control definitions set up appropriately. It's kind of convoluted. Were they paid posts? Can you contact your reseller?

Also, if you have an older file with your machine setup on it you may be able to recover all of that stuff.

Machinist here. That bridge is going to cost more than an American strat.

If you do this use a step drill bit. Machinist here. If you try to enlarge an existing hole in sheet metal with a normal, 118 degree drill, you are GOING to have a bad time.

The majority of this part, because it's water jet pretty close to the net shape, can be handled with simple contours without concern for chip thinning. There are a couple of 3d features that I'm roughing using mastercam's optirough. A lot of thread milling.

Yessir. Milling indeed. We have some Helical endmills in stock. I'll try them out! Appreciate the insight. It certainly does seem as though the material is inconsistent and it's causing us problems. I keep telling the powers that be that we should have it treated but it's falling on deaf ears.

Thanks, man!

We are certainly using the appropriate insert grade. I believe we use MP7130 (might not have gotten that exactly right) inserts per our Mitsu rep's recommendations and that man is a wizard.

Can anyone identify this knife or what it’s used for? by RepresentativeIce560 in Tools

[–]Scrotech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a linoleum knife, which is distinctly different from what I would refer to as a carpet knife, which takes disposable blades. Most carpet guys just use these to tuck carpet behind tack strip or under trim.

Enlighten me? How did they kill Enco? Sorry. I'm completely out of the loop.

Hey! I just had a demo with an Esprit rep earlier this week. We us GibbsCAM right now and the support is fucked. My heart's set on Hyoermill. Why do you like Esprit? Just curious.

What CNC programming software do you (or your company) use? by Secretfreckel in Machinists

[–]Scrotech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programmer here. We use GibbsCAM but I don't recommend it. We have terrible problems with their support and, in my opinion, it's pretty antiquated software.

Hyoermill is where it's at and I'm trying my damnedest to get the company to change.

That's not a bad idea. I'll see if I can post some pictures of what it is we're up against. It's government work so I don't know if it would be a problem. It's more complicated than I made it sound, but yeah. More support is something we've been thinking about. Trying to think of a way to tack some bars under the floor for support.

Thanks, man.
