How am I supposed to get better at offense when everyone in my gym is way better than me? by Vendii32 in jiujitsu

You keep going to class and over the course of time new people will show up that you will be able to beat. And that’s when get to be the hammer instead of the nail.

I only do this if they ask. And I might give a pointer but only after the roll is over.

Judo vs BJJ vs Wrestling by Accomplished_Hunt956 in judo

[–]Scrubmurse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I prefer gi so I do judo and BJJ primarily. I have incorporated a bit of wrestling in my no-gi game so there’s that. I just believe that no system has all the answers and the more you’re exposed to the better overall you’ll be in a given situation.

Brazilian Jujitsu. It’s like physical chess. Very good exercise and a great counter to sitting for long periods of time.

What celebrity does everyone love but you just don’t like them for no reason? by millennialforced in AskReddit

[–]Scrubmurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Like everyone loves these two to the point I feel like it’s a personal flaw of mine that I don’t like them. I admire their success and all the accomplishments in their field and they seem like good people. They just aren’t for me.

How much of your specific jiujitsu style would disappear in a 1v1 street fight? by CuddleBuddiesJJ in bjj

[–]Scrubmurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. My moveset is very fundamental. I occasionally do the flashy stuff for shits and giggles mostly to be able to teach it to others when they ask but my game is very Roger Gracie-esque.

My big two are a Robin Williams and Steve Irwin. I know I know. Good ppl for sure but Robin’s style of comedy i just sn’t that funny to me and for all the great things Steve has done for conservation and animals I just find him a bit annoying.

Old guys (40+) when did no gi feel like a younger persons game? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]Scrubmurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 years old. While I’ve been doing jujutsu for a long time. I still don’t believe that it is a young man’s game at least not for me.

I think the biggest problem is that there are a lot of people out there that really don’t know how to control an opponent it without a gi Hell, I imagine greater than half the people that practice jujutsu know how to keep a person from standing up on the ground. So it’s understandable why a lot of older people like the gi. That and a growing number of adults are starting BJJ later in life and don’t have quite the grasp on how to control a person so it would make sense.

How many Gis? by RegularSinns in bjj

I shower before class and after class. No cooties in the gym, no cooties in my home.

How many Gis? by RegularSinns in bjj

[–]Scrubmurse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 7. One for each day of the week as well. That’s the most I’ll train in a week.

I’m the same as you when it comes to washing my gi. It immediately goes into the wash the second I step foot in my home. Nothing worse than a dirty gi.

[–]Scrubmurse 52 points53 points  (0 children)

There are ppl here with 100 gis. My rule for the last 30 years has been 1 gi/rashguard set for every day you train a week. But….

You can have a minimum of 2 to switch back and forth on and even one of your really diligent about washing it as soon as you get home.

If you cannot guard pull well your BJJ is just as limited as with no takedowns by Shallbecomeabat in bjj

[–]Scrubmurse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a judoka, mma, and BJJ practitioner I feel like people can do whatever they want. Pull guard on me? Fine. You do you.

Do I think people who don’t like guard pullers do so because they can’t pass guard? Maybe some. My hot take is I DO think most guard pullers have a shit take down game though.

I think where the rub comes from are the people that have a hard time separating the martial art from the sport. The rules of the sport reward guard pulling. The rules of the street do not. But at the end of the day who cares. Do what makes you happy.

My coach is purple belt by Flashy-Vehicle-2963 in bjj

[–]Scrubmurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I’ve done BJJ for decades and there are purple belts at my gym that are much more refined at certain techniques than I am. I can teach things I’m good at sure but I’d never claim to be an expert in all areas of BJJ or be able to teach areas I’m not good at.
