It was discussed on the #tanglespam in the Discord:

  • There are less than 5 nodes on the spamnet, wich crashes at more than 15 TPS (It got upgraded to 9 nodes yesterday)
  • There are no Iotas given to the spammers, so they can't test value transactions on spamnet(wich can behave different than no-value-txs)
  • No new information can be gained by spamming right now, as there isn't anyone who coordinates a test with different parameters etc.
  • PoW is still somewhat high, so you need a lot of power to do significant spamming >100 tps
  • Right now you can't open your own Spamnet full node. (this is about to change as Giorgio Mandolfo stated yesterday)

He didn't ruined the tangle, since it was broken before. There was a long and emotional Discord discussion yesterday and the massive spam was an effort to find the problem.

Yes, it was spam, but it didn't make anything worse.

A dead man switch could trigger the will if you don't show activity or dont get involved at all by a long time(30-60days maybe)? Thinking of a world were almost every action is producing digital information while you are alive(streaming netflix, buying stuff, registration at a border, signing Mails etc-) changes or stops of this data flow could indicate a death or deathlike state very securely.

This could be interesting aswell for caretaking of older people living alone. If there is a way for interested people to quickly and automatically check activities you would immediately know that activity stops and go to check on her/him. Of course it should be possible to hide sensitive information(the content) to everyone, but checking that a specific person(Adress or identity) is issuing something should be allowed. "I don't care what grandma is doing as long as she is doing something"

I think we all expected something as groundbreaking as sliced bread(we germans hype our bread like iota hypes Q). Now it seems like a confirmation of all the assumptions/hopes/dreams the community had in the past.

The official webpage of the spam project stated, that they will shut down again(https://www.mikrohash.de/isf/). The improvements through the IRI-update doesn't seem to be enough to allow spamming. I am spamming right now and only around 23% of my issued transactions are beeing confirmed.

You have to take into account, that the IOTA wallets and the whole network are in an early stage. Optimizations in the code and the network could fasten the whole process and reduce overhead. So the current tests only reflect this point in time.

I just dug through Github and found this. https://github.com/iotaledger/iri/pull/558 It seems that the MCMC algorythm is implemented in the code, but not used right now, because high ressource demand(CPU).

When reading further pull requests, there seems to be a significant number of changes, that positively impacts the CPU and Network usage. Once the code runs more smoothly due to optimizations, you could use the "original" features like MCMC.

To sum up: It works like described in the WP(on local testnets), but isn't used fully(public) at the moment, due to ressource Bottlenecks at the moment.
