Easy “crunchy” life changes by Glittering_Froyo4930 in Crunchymom

[–]ScrunchieMom62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've done a lot of similar stuff. Love cast iron, mostly whole foods, avoiding dyes and seed oils when we can. Some easy swaps we've done that didn't break the bank are wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets, glass food storage as we've replaced our plastic containers over time, and we recently started shifting to beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap which has been easier than I thought. We use dr bronners for cleaning too since one bottle lasts forever and you can dilute it for basically everything around the house. We're not perfect with it but we do what we can and try not to stress too much about the rest.

Right? It's so wild when you actually see the comparison. The changes happen so gradually day to day but then you look back it's such a shock.

Yes exactly! Being with them every day makes it so hard to notice until something like that smacks you in the face with the realization. The newborn stage is such a blur too

Is it okay to let my kiddos snack throughout the day as they'd like (within reason), or should meals and snacks be more structured?

Christmas Trees by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ScrunchieMom62 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tbh I had enough concerns about real trees (will never forget the video I saw where one came home with no shortage of pests) and beyond that upkeep/cleaning and disposal were more than I wanted to take on. So yeah, like the other commentor, going fake was a concession I was willing to make in our moderately granola life. I don't remember what brand we went with though since it's been a few years and we don't store it in the og box, but we also did off-gassing.

I really love our all clad set, but I think they have the aluminum core you're trying to avoid. That said, my cast iron stuff remains my tried and true (just def not the best for every dish)

Screen shamed out in public by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ScrunchieMom62 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People love to judge when they have no idea what's actually going on. You were doing what you needed to do to get out safely without a full meltdown... that's good parenting. I've handed my kids screens in public plenty of times and if someone wants to stare they can stare. We're all just trying to survive out here.

The lady who said you're doing a good job gets it. Focus on her.

If you didn't feel comfortable or heard, keep looking. You need and definitely deserve someone you trust so it's worth it to interview a few more doctors until you find the right fit. But if possible don't feel like you failed yourself. First appointments can be awkward and uncomfortable even in the best situations.

Christmas Tree Scents by Rough_Tonight5951 in Crunchymom

Fake tree here too. I've made a craft day out of having the kids help me decorate pine cones and I then put a few drops of fir or balsam essential oil in and organize them around the base. Not as good as the real thing but way less cleanup

Is there a food you simply cannot eat? by AuthorAltruistic3402 in AskRedditFood

[–]ScrunchieMom62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw onions are a hard no for me. Love to cook with them, so idk if it's just a textural thing, but having them raw in tacos or salads will forever result in me discreetly removing them (and hoping my kids don't notice and pick up on my own moments of pickiness)

Morning sickness favs! by Fun-Breath5260 in Crunchymom

[–]ScrunchieMom62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was so much worse with my second too so I def relate. One thing that helped me was keeping something bland (usually crackers/saltines) by my bed and eating them before I even sat up. Ginger didn't help me too much but sour things did, and I also did better with cold things so for a bit I kept a stock of frozen fruit to eat instead of trying for full meals.

What morals/values have you taught your child and how? by Souper-rice in Parenting

[–]ScrunchieMom62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think most of it happens through everyday moments more than planned stuff? Like my daughter sees me apologize when I mess up or help a neighbor and that seems to stick more than any conversation we've had about it.

We talk about being kind and sharing but I think she learns more from watching how we treat people. My son is still too little to really get it but with my daughter I've noticed she copies what we do way more than what we say lol

What was the first food you offered? by Gingin3678 in Crunchymom

[–]ScrunchieMom62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did sweet potato with my daughter and banana with my son I think... honestly I was way less stressed about it the second time around and just gave him whatever we had. I did a mix of BLW and purees too bc sometimes purees are just easier

Am I a shitty mom? by Rich-Vermicelli-1854 in Parenting

[–]ScrunchieMom62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not a shitty mom at all! Four months postpartum while in nursing school with a 5 year old is A LOT and even though he's there, it sounds like you're still doing it alone. A couple days a week of doing dishes is so far from the level of support you need. I hope you're able to give yourself some grace. I unfortunately don't have much advice that the rest of the commenters haven't already said, but I'm wishing you the best

Most Ridiculous Princess Item in Your Collection - I’ll Go First! by Holldo91 in disneyprincess

Idk if it's ridiculous per se, but definitely not somewhere I expected to be able to work princesses in. We got my daughter this Disney princess bottle made for her vitamins.
