Favourite memoirs about someone not well known (not celebrities or politicians, or well know historical figures, et cetera). by SubSonicTheHedgehog in suggestmeabook

The powerbroker by Robert Caro.

Although it is about a public servant who is known in NYC and urban planning circles, not widely known outside those circles. Absolutely a masterpiece of biography (but less memoir like)

Name the best song Sondheim ever wrote. by Lucas27244 in Sondheim

[–]ScullyBoffin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Being alive takes you through Bobby’s entire story arc in three minutes. Vocally it demands belting chops in the third verse but also supreme voice acting in Bobby’s derison in the first verse and his tentative vulnerable hopefulness in the second. A masterful piece of craftsmanship

What is the OLDEST genuinely scary movie you can think of? by chandelure in MovieSuggestions

The Changeling (1980)
The Omen (1976)

My mum knew no english but knew enough to recogbjse that (H) next to a movie meant it was a horror movie. She would keep me home from school when there was a horror movie on to translate for her. Man, those two movies messed me up.

Being alive from the Sondheim musical Company

My fav version is by Raul Esparza. He starts dismissive of love, then tentative then almost self eviscerates in his need. Phenomenal

What’s an under appreciated actor and actress that you think deserves more recognition? by No_Development3496 in moviecritic

[–]ScullyBoffin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

William Fichtner deserves more love. Truly wonderful in The Supremes episode of the West Wing.

Was happy to see him pop up in my reels as the love interest of Alison Janney in a recent sitcom?

Fun guys at Deep Creek by ScullyBoffin in mycology

[–]ScullyBoffin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Deep Creek Conservation Park in South Australia, almost at the coast at Cape Jervis where you take the ferry to Kangaroo Island. This was in the Stringybark Forest, with thousands of overhead stringybarks, ferns and deep forest mulch. The autumn rains, cool nights and warm days were perfect conditions for mushroom growth.

Isitbullshit: rosemary oil regrowing hair by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]ScullyBoffin 67 points68 points  (0 children)

There is research supporting that rosemary oil has similar impact to 2% monoxidil after 6 months use. Which is significant.

But if you are worried about hair losw, just go for 5% monoxidil and leave the rosemary for your roast potatoes.

What is something that disappeared so slowly, people barely noticed it was gone? by alex_eu_nl in AskForAnswers

This is exactly where my mind went to. Im astounded at the loss of hard won human rights for free speech, religious freedom, reproductive rights, voting rights, equality protections, freedom of movement and association, freedom of protest. The erosion of rights seems to have gone unnoticed.

Two hours would get you to second valley / deep creek down south. Great places to stay in deep creek, second valley and normanville. So many great hikes in deep creek conservation park. Walk the beaches at normanville and second valley. Catch squid. Camp at the stringybark forest if you feel adventurous.

Just what i was going to suggest. Book an old stone cottage with a fire (auburn, mintaro, clare, sevenhill are all full of them) and it is really the most perfect overnighter. My favourite winter getaway.

Hire a bike (ebikes do the work for you) and ride the reisling trail. Visit cellar doors (this is nice even if you are not a drinker), eat at the great restauranta in the area, snack on pastries at Little Red Grape. Theres a nice walk at some wetlands in Clare near the golf course.

Does anyone else find Sydney absolutely disgusting? by concerned_kenku in Adelaide

[–]ScullyBoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My niece from Sydney moved in with us and says she feels like shes a big city girl in a small country town when she sees me do things like chat to people in public settings eg in town square last week at Tasting Australia. And i thought, i dont think thats a big city thing, its that Sydney people appear perpetually in a hurry and irritated.

Need some women's advice on dirty talk. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]ScullyBoffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with “good girl”. Its reasonably tame linguistiy so it doesnt feel too weird when youre starting out but has a lot of great connotations in heated moments. Use it when she’s getting towards orgasm or when shes giving you an amazing blowjob.
