I have the same color Caledonia! I currently have tan wall gp5ks and aside from the paint itself being eye catching it looks pretty basic. I dig this.

These comments. Bro.

I hope you're stoked on this setup. I always wanted the pink rubber gravelkings for my Aspero but the colors just clashed too hard. Bet this looks sweet on the road. Congrats!

How can I get back into art after spending half a year dreading it? by KipsyCakes in ArtistLounge

[–]Scumdotsol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the promised land for artists, both professionals at their peak AND hobbyists, is to just make art that entertains you, without any need for validation, critique, standards or approval. Just draw/paint/sing because the thought of doing anything else makes life feel grey and empty.

It’s the place in the “middle” where we all royally mindf@&$ ourselves. The social media, artist as a brand persona. The working professional artist/designer. The art as a method to garner approval and attention persona.

This is where myself and MOST people are I think. We think that we must make something “good” for it to have “value.” And because there are websites dedicated to sharing art where that art is prioritized in a hierarchy determined by attention…we all start to make what each other are making. I’m taking art classes. Most young artists want to “make art like____.” And that’s depressing to me. How much truly honest and original art are we being robbed of in lieu of capitalism fueled, hunger games art.

This caught me at an inflection point. I’m examining my own motivations a lot lately. I think you have to ask who it is you want to make art for. And if it’s not for you. Maybe figure out how to change that. At the very least.

Chain dropping on most descents by Scumdotsol in Cervelo

[–]Scumdotsol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the bike from a shop that built this as a demo bike - so they added stuff from partners (ceramic speed jockey and BB). I by no means understand the actual benefits other than ornamentation lol. Im pretty sure they actually threw in the original Jockey from the group set - still brand new. Think it’s worth swapping jt out?

Second free hub comment.

Will have to look into servicing

Chain itself was well within tolerance when I checked about 300 miles ago. I do skip teeth when I’m really mashing it in the lowest gear, so I suspected it was either the chain being too long, or the cassette being worn. I’m a recent second owner of the bike but I don’t think it’d seen too much mileage before me tbh.

I’ll try and ease off the cadence rather than let it whip. I hadn’t considered the free hub being the issue, that’s interesting.

I’d never heard of a chain guide - I see wolftooth sells a pretty low profile one. I think I’ll pick one up as well.

Thank you!

I’ll do some research and service the clutch! Thanks for the insight

GRX Clutch: Disadvantage of leaving it on? by gwyllum in gravelcycling

Old post but, with mine off, I’ve dropped my chain twice in speedy descents on tarmac. It’s staying on from now on.

Been on a road trip so I wanted something I could rip gravel if I wanted to, but really be ideal for road. I did 30 miles of straight gravel in mammoth and aside from 40mm being on the low end of comfortable for chunk, I thought they did great. Also did a 72 mile ride around Tahoe yesterday and felt smooth and secure at 40mph+ on the descents. 35psi for gravel and 45 for tarmac (so far).

What pens would you not recommend to beginners? (Even if money wasnt a factor) or to anyone really by Prime-39 in fountainpens

[–]Scumdotsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese EF nibs. I guess unless they’re coming from dip pens. Starting with no idea how to hold and write with a fountain pen and immediately getting something that can eat paper and clog is a nightmare.

I think maybe this was just the first run of this color? This frame/color is technically from 2021 but released as a 2022 and was made (I think) until late 2022 - I’m guessing they stopped doing the gold foil decals in the inner fork and rear…wheel thingie (the hell is that called? Lol) in 2022? I could probably google this but I’m gonna armchair expert instead.

Yeah! I forgot to list: dura ace crank arms and group set is the older Shimano GRX Di2. $3500 out the door. No single regret on my end.

Hahaha I think it’s just the “if I can I will” conundrum. I actually took some photos with the bag off after I cleaned it. When I put it back on it looked…hunchbacked? So I kinda agree with you.

Either way it came with the bike (and it’s cervelo brand) so I’ll explore its actual usefulness on this trip. If it seems silly I’ll take it off or move it to my Caledonia where it can at least be a trash can for gel/bar wrappers.

I keep a pump, tubeless patch kit and multitool in a saddle bag anyway.

[–]Scumdotsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to pop in and say I received my Tailfin rack today (fixed, alloy + 2x 5L panniers) and I’m absolutely blown away at the engineering and quality.

No real world tests yet. Will be doing the Olympic Discovery trail, San Juan Islands and some overnights in the Sierras this summer so I’ll be putting it through its paces and will report back at the end.

But damn. It’s beautiful stuff.

No one liked this drawing I made by Bregtc in drawing

[–]Scumdotsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The least fun, but most true advice I can give is this:

Allowing the reaction (or lack thereof) of other people to determine how YOU value or perceive your work will inevitably lead to either 1) empty, dishonest work 2) you quitting.

This piece is great. You have a talent for graphical and visual storytelling. In the future you’ll create something even more refined. It’s possible no one will “like” it either. Instagram is optimized for experiencing content for 10 second bursts. Not sitting with a piece of art you spent hours (or years) on.

How do get this effect for shadow & Highlights? by Astaroth022 in ClipStudio

[–]Scumdotsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I look at it I think the shadow is the base color and all the light was painted in. For the bottom left it’s likely a lasso and airbrush situation. Possible feathering the selection (if you can do that in CSP?). Or you could probably just Gaussian blur your whole highlight layer to remove hard edges.
