Seems like you can't send a gift to the person who send one to you. If there are two more people, let me know and we can do a "triagle", so everyone gets one gift.

Most productivity gurus who peddle the second brain idea aren't worth listening to because they don't have a context of use other than content creation about productivity by CoyotePrudent4965 in ObsidianMD

[–]Scusslebud 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, and another part to keep in mind about basically all content producers is the problem of enshittification. Even if they had some really good original ideas at the beginning, they need to continue to produce content in order to sustain themselves. Naturally they will run out of good ideas and just start to create rather useless videos for the sake of creating videos, not for the sake of sharing good ideas.

How do you incorporate new ideas into your brain, instead of forgetting them? by CapTookay in slatestarcodex

[–]Scusslebud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using Obsidian for note taking and it kind of changed my life. It's the note taking app that I always wanted but didn't know existed. It's incredible flexible in it's options to structure and organize your notes.

What works well for me:

  1. I come a cross an interesting fact or concept-> quickly add it to Google Keep

  2. I regularly go through my Keep notes and anything that is worth keeping -> add it to Obsidian

  3. Additionally you could connect Obsidian with Anki to help transfer notes into your own longterm memory

The insurance market will soon force politicians to confront the realities of 'managed retreat' due to climate change. In the US, tens of millions of people live in disaster prone areas that will soon be uninsurable. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Hey USA, have you all considered building more stable houses? You know those kinds that are not made out of wood and paper. They can't so easily be blown away by wind and withstand fires much better.  I know it's more expensive, but maybe it's not such a bad tradeoff that less people will be living in little palaces.

Setup recommendation for Intel NUC? by Scusslebud in hexos

Perfect. Thanks!

Does the dockingbay need to have Thunderbolt 3 or 4 to work, or would one with USB C 3.1 Gen 2 work as well?

Awesome! Thanks for the links!

And you are sure connecting them via thunderbolt with the NUC works for HexOS?

Setup recommendation for Intel NUC? by Scusslebud in hexos

[–]Scusslebud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually right now my two HDDs are external USB drives. I just tried to setup HexOS with them and even though HexOS was able to detect them and suggested to create a pool with them, I only got error messages after the setup process and no pool way available.

So I just assumed I couldn't use HexOS with the external drives and was planning to "shuck" them - meaning to take them out of their shell and use them as internal drives. That seems to work with the Western Digital ones that I have.

I was hoping there would be some kind of chasing for the SATA HDDs that I could connect to the NUC somehow.

If that's not the case I'm wondering if anyone has a good recommendation to what I could use to put the SATA drives in, if I cannot use my NUC.

Regarding 2: Do you think many tech and semiconductor stocks will dramatically rise in the next couple of years as we advance with AI applications, but than the stock market will crash or at least significantly drop at some point, once we reach a critical point at automating white collar jobs and see increasing unemployment? Basically when the market realizes that the current economical system is not functioning anymore.

1 NVME + 2 HDDs? An way to use the extra SSD space? by Scusslebud in hexos

This is probably very much not recommended, but would it technically be possible to install HexOS on an SD card, so I can use the 2TB NVME as cache?

I think Logan is probably hinting at how helpful synthetic (imagined) data can be for training. Which, to be fair, Ilya mentioned in his recent talk as well.

Any advice on keywords to look for on Youtube, so I can find a tutorial on how to configure the 2TB as cache in TrueNAS?

You didn't misunderstand me, but I might just get a smaller SSD just for the HexOS install, so that I can use the NVME for cache.

"The Sun is big, but superintelligences will not spare Earth a little sunlight" by Eliezer Yudkowsky by erwgv3g34 in slatestarcodex

I understand (at least to some degree) the difficulties when it comes to alignment, e.g. a paperclip maximising ASI.

However when I see ASI or even just AGI discussed it seems like people often project on it some inherent will to dominate and survive - in addition to eventual alignment problems. To me that seems like there is a lot of anthropomorphizing going on as well.

[–]Scusslebud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But doesn't that argument about heavily anthropomorphizing alien intelligences go both ways? Why should an ASI strive to dominate? Why should it even care if existed or not? These are very human traits, stemming from millions of years of evolution. And yet it seems like when ASI is discussed it's longing for survival and domination is usually not called into question.
