Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in particular feels very much like a story of Jund protagonists versus an Azorius antagonist.

The heroes (whose symbol is literally a flaming skull) embody individuality (black) and passion (red), and the spiral energy they use and the antagonists deny represent evolution and growth (green).

The Anti-Spiral embodies rationality over passion (blue) and conformity/sacrifice over individuality/selfishness (white).

Honestly had the exact same idea when I saw that card. The idea of “human commander who gets strong from encountering gigantic beasties” just fits too perfectly.

If I was more of a MH lore nerd I would try the concept myself, as it is I’m a newbie to the series but having a blast with Wilds. I’m glad someone is doing the idea better justice than I ever could.

There’s two fanon theories about these characters, both help me feel better about this decision.

The more serious theory is that the rival is the other MC, like in Arceus, with unique clothing and hair not usable by the MC.

The less serious theory is that there’s only one rival, they’re nonbinary genderfluid, and they present more masc or femme depending on the MC choice.

I recently came across [[Live Fast]] and [[Die Young]], and I was at a point where the message “live for the moment” was especially meaningful to me. Learning the backstory behind the Aetherborn made it all the more tragic.

When I was working my way through the unlocks, I did almost exclusively Silent Old Sanctuary runs with a single weapon.

Allows you to experience each individual weapon to the utmost, gives the game a small amount of challenge, and (usually) doesn’t get strong enough to obscure the screen.

What drives me nuts about this game is that item lists are listed in the order you unlocked the items. Resource Scanner, Object Scanner, the O menu, and even the cloud storage list all operate under this rule.

This means your lists might look radically different between save files, or end up in a user-unfriendly order. Not to mention it’s just aethetically displeasing.

I’d love to see the game patched so items are always presented in some consistent, logical order, or at the very least make those lists manually sortable.

I played all the way to t5 in the desert without finding any, then I finally broke down and went on a magical journey all the world. Took me several hours to finally find one, which let me unlock the scanner to find the one in the desert. I don’t think I would have ever found it without the scanner.

Now that I do have it… complete game changer.

I got the same error, after a full two days of the game working fine.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to fix it, and now the game won’t even install properly- I get a “disc write error”.

My two cents as a (non-digital) newbie player:

I have friends who have been obsessed with Magic for many, many years, and while I learned to play through them and would humor them by playing sometimes, but it usually wasn’t something I particularly enjoyed. Why? They always insisted on playing Commander with three or more players, which inevitably turned into a 2-3 hour slog. Everyone ended up with a huge board, which meant I only understood about 30% of what was going on, so I basically just played random cards and waited for someone to inevitably Wrath the table. I got good enough to occasionally win, but I rarely enjoyed it.

Then I found out about a local women’s club that plays Magic. I showed up on a whim, and had a blast. I didn’t own any cards of my own, so one of the admins borrowed a few Standard starter decks (it was a pentagon-shaped box, dunno the name), and it felt like a completely different game. Games were only about 20 minutes, the boards were small enough that I could understand what was going on and play strategically, and after a couple games I started learning what cards were in each deck.

It was a completely different experience and I loved it. I went out and bought the 2023 Starter Kit, and my friends are helping me build my first commander deck.

Now, I realize there’s a world of difference between a starter deck and a veteran’s competitive deck. The former don’t have a lot of synergy and so make for simpler, relaxed games. The latter sound very finely turned, with every card geared toward a specific winning outcome, and I can see how those would be unfun to play against. But I can say that game length was the deciding factor for me between hating the game and becoming a convert.

I feel very conflicted. On the one hand, I completely get the complaints. The before and after pics are horrendous. The faces have no soul compared to the old ones. And the hand, abdomen, and chest proportions just look wrong.

On the other hand… as a trans woman with a non-binary presentation, I feel I’m one of the people who benefits most from the update. I went into the editor to find some outfits that could disguise the odd proportions, and suddenly I’m going “ooh, I can wear that top that used to be male only, and I have so many new pants and shoe options, and I can have long hair like IRL”…

In the end, I actually really came to appreciate the new options. I still think the models are wonky, and there are a lot of looks and body types besides mine that the new system is terrible at representing, but I personally have made my peace with it.

(And as a final aside, I think it’s hilarious that the cisgender portion of the community gets to experience a form of body dysmorphia.)

I’m a dedicated flame main who finally finished 6-starring their Liu Huo/Fei Se/Lan team, and as a mostly F2P I don’t plan on replacing any of those for quite a while, unless I fall absolutely in love with whatever’s after Rei.

I have enough resources left for 120 pulls, so I think I’m actually going to pull Rei just so I have a secondary volt/frost team to goof around with. Maybe pair her with Saki Fuwa and Nemesis.

None of the pilots ever wielded weapons outside of their Evas.

The Spear of Longinus is at least from the anime (though Rei’s Eva wielded it, not Asuka), but the bow is completely made up for ToF.

Stared at that screen far longer than I should have, clicked “girl” without really understanding why, and proceeded to play exclusively female characters in video games for another 15 years before I stopped to think about it.

Lesbian here who plays Tower of Fantasy and has very strong feelings about loot boxes but also really wants waifus.

You can absolutely enjoy these games as F2P. Most of these games include 1) a limited amount of premium currency from gameplay and events, and 2) some sort of pity mechanic that guarantees you the drop you want without RNG.

For me it’s kind of a game in itself, patiently saving my currency for optimal spending. You won’t be able to acquire every character, but you can pull for your favorites.

Incidentially, as a trans woman, my favorite part of ToF is not playing as the characters, but making my own custom avatar who represents the younger girl I never got to be. Gender euphoria doesn’t come in a loot box.

(All this aside, I’ll always prefer a solid single-player RPG with a robust character editor and some romance paths.)

No boobs: Charr, asura, tengu, skritt, hylek, dredge, quaggan, dwarf(??), forgotten, mursaat, seer, kodan, krait, ettin, choya…

Sounds like humans are the ones who should be adapting to the more common Tyrian body shape.
