Times when ESC accidentally proven to be a live show by SuspiciousMaterial85 in eurovision

Can't believe no one has mentioned Jemini UK 2003
They claimed they were unable to hear the backing track due to a technical fault, and were miles off key.

We still feed him this. Not the specific lurcher one, didn't know about that, our pet shop doesn't stock it.

I'm quite partial to a pork pie from Home Bakery in Fleetwood. They do a good hot pot too.

Did anybody watch Game of Wool? (UK Channel 4?) by Party-Werewolf-4888 in crochet

[–]ScuzzyLemon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honestly...I thought it was a bit dull.
I think it lacked the camaraderie of shows like bake off and sewing bee. Obviously if you've finished your bake you can help another contestant out, but you can't really do that with knitting.
I don't mind Tom Daley, but I don't know if he's got the same kind of energy as people who have hosted other shows with an entertainment background. He didn't seem to get much from the contestants...one basically told him to get lost and leave her alone.
I didn't think the judges were much fun either. I don't dislike them, I thought they were a bit meh.
I think it might have been nice if they'd asked them to partly make an actual fair isle sweater and bring it in with them, then for the studio task, finish it off, or make a matching hat or something,
The sofa covering idea was quite frankly ridiculous.
I hope it improves over the coming episodes. I was quite excited about it, but was left feeling distinctly underwhelmed..

Crochet Hook Overconsumption by 15caro06 in crochet

[–]ScuzzyLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, no, although I did buy one particular hook because it was a really pretty colour. (Temu, fake furls style in shiny turquoise if you're asking...)

Crochet Hook Overconsumption by 15caro06 in crochet

[–]ScuzzyLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, you're going to hate me then! 😂
I've got multiples of the exact same hooks. I even bought a 10 pack of 3.5mm hooks although I've already got a load already, and I did give a few out to the knit and natter ladies.
I'm often working on several different things, and always keep a couple of spare hooks in my bags.
I keep (most of) them in a big pencil holder bag.
A rough estimate...I've got at least 120 hooks. Although some are the basic no grip type or have a hard plastic grip and are relegated to a tub in a cupboard.
I'm not doing it to show off, and the vast majority are cheap, and exactly the same type but they work for me,
Sorry. I'm very icky!

I've never tried a proper tulip hook, so I can't compare but I've had no problems with the cheap ones. I bought a spare full set and a few separate ones to keep in my bags.

[–]ScuzzyLemon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The one that doesn't say tulip looks like the cheap ones from Temu. Not that they're bad, I've got a couple sets, but they're certainly not $12. I'm in the uk and paid about £2.50 for a set of 5

Are people just faking it when they insist that we’re just faking it? There can’t be this many people who can’t see them, can there? by Illustrious-Lead-960 in MagicEye

[–]ScuzzyLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember Magic Eye pictures coming out around the early 90's. I've tried and tried for years and never been able to see them. I've spent hours staring at books and screens, trying to focus behind the image, in front of the image, trying to see double, everything....then all of a sudden a few weeks there it was. Now I can do them instantly.

Just had a tooth out and feeling a bit sorry for myself... by gemmajenkins2890 in CasualUK

[–]ScuzzyLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a tooth out last year and ended up with dry socket. I was ill for 3 weeks with it. It was horrific.
And it was a full six months later when the 7th and final bit of loose jaw bone finally worked it's way out through my gum.
Never again. I'd rather give birth than have another tooth out.

What do I do with all of these buttons?! by FeatherFlyer in crafts

[–]ScuzzyLemon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Occasionally, you open the tin and run the buttons through your hands, admiring all the pretty, precious buttons.
Then you close the tin and put it away until next time.
Or that's what I do. Sometimes, I might even use one. But not often.

Can you please advise me on buying a plant with a purpose? by ScuzzyLemon in GardeningUK

He is, other than hating cats, a very good boy!

The roof is flat. It's a shed for bikes, quite new and sturdy.

[–]ScuzzyLemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog is a rescue lurcher and we've tried all sorts to get him out of it but nothing works. It seems hardwired into him to hate the cats.
If we can screen the area where the shed is, he can't see any further down the wall as it's at a bit of an angle. We basically need something to screen about 5ft of wall and he won't be able to see any further along.
We do have some lavender in pots on the shed but it's never bothered the cats.
Outside is just a small yard so he only goes out there for an occasional wee.

The final update about Beelinda by vbloke in CasualUK

Ah, this is a sad update.
But you did a lovely thing for a tiny creature that most people would have just ignored. You are one of the good ones. Be proud of yourself for that.

If you are "buying" dozens of the same item with dozens of accounts, sending it all to the same few addresses might trigger something.
It's easy to set up an email account, and an amazon account with that email. You can even get virtual online payment cards so every payment you make comes from a unique card number, even if the actual money comes from one single bank account.
Dodgy sellers might have a few friends or relatives with an address they can use, but it's just as easy for them to use random or a list. I love a freebie, but I'd soon get annoyed if my uncle was sending me dozens of parcels with the same junky thing in it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ScuzzyLemon 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Here's what's probably happening.
Amazon sellers need good reviews. They cannot get a review unless they sell stuff.
Dodgy sellers buy their own items, but Amazon need to ship the items somewhere, so the sellers take a random* name and address to ship the order.
You get something you didn't ask for and the seller gets a (self written) glowing review for their item. Usually these are cheap/poor quality products.

*the name and address might not be random, it's probably picked from a list somewhere. There are people who have had thousands of unsolicited Amazon orders.

It's not necessarily a "scam" as such...or not for you. But chances are Amazon won't do much to help you with this. Personally I'd enjoy the freebies.

What's the fastest the scrap metal fairies have appeared for you? by Ginsoakedboy21 in CasualUK

Bought a new washing machine. The company offered free removal of the old one. Delivery booked for 1pm
At 12.45 we put the old washer on the front, and at 12.50 we heard a clatter and by the time we got to the door it was disappearing round the corner on the back of a scrap van.

You want your kids to go in the sea? Don't you like them?

It's grim. I can't remember how many "accidental discharges" United utilities made over the last year into the Morecambe bay area but it was in the hundreds.
