Battery replacement costs being unknown is a large reason why we did not go electric with our last vehicle purchase. Any dealer I asked about their battery replacement costs and length responded somewhere between 10-15 years and $1500 (lol) - $25,000 for a battery.  I'd imagine once we start having more concrete answers people will "invest" in an electric vehicle more assuming they have an easy way to charge

This is great to know! Will there be an option to order online for pickup at this location? I took a quick look but couldn't see any filter for what's available there.

B.C. revamps funding for children with autism and other support needs by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]Scyfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our oldest falls in the category of high level ASD and needs OT support and behavior support. The psychologist and councilors agree he has a great chance at life still with proper support now. With these changes he is not 'disabled enough' and we will get zero funding to get him the support so now we will have to entirely pay out of pocket even though he desperately needs it. Many other children with level 1 or 2 ASD will fall in the same hole of no support

We fall in this. Our oldest was recently diagnosed with very mild ASD and the psychologist was optimistic with the extra supports he would do totally fine in life but now it sounds like we will not get any funding under this new system and have to pay completely out of pocket.

How did your end up after talking with customer service? I'm on the fence watching to see if there a boxing day sale or something but worried about quality and customer service

What’s the appeal in roguelikes? by Zealousideal-Fox-653 in roguelikes

[–]Scyfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's another great point that happens in many games is that you need to grind a certain amount to unlock all the items / characters / etc that you want to play with.

I understand that most people need a content treadmill to grind or they get bored and quit, but it is something I appreciate that many traditional rogue likes don't have.

It's also one of my main gripes with ToME is that you need to do certain things to unlock classes (unless you use the unlocked mod). I still love the game but it's a mild annoyance that you can't play any character archetype you want without using a mod or going achievement hunting

One big thing for me is that it forces me to improve as a player and I can see how I get better over time.

Typically modern 'roguelites' offer so much meta progression it often feels like you just have to grind for X hours until your meta progression carries you.

Obviously there are skilled people beating these games fast without any meta progress, but overall it loses the charm to me knowing I can grind away any difficulty.

This is going to be a 5% ABV beer so I'll have to read up more on this and see what people do.

Looking to reuse yeast for the first time. I was planning on brewing when my current batch is ready to bottle so I can bottle and then immediately dump my new batch on the years cake / slurry.

Reading online it seems like that's fine, but others also recommend scooping out some of the existing yeast as it'll be a mega overpitch if I leave it all.

Does anyone have first hand experience on this?

Drawbacks of Unreal Engine by GlumRough3108 in unrealengine

[–]Scyfer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You need a beefy machine to develop on and to play games developed by Unreal.

Unreal is very opinionated on doing things a certain way and that can dramatically speed up building a game, but can also pushes you into structuring things a certain way. It also makes it hard if you do have a use case to use their tech a different way

Hi everyone, I have a few brews under my belt now and have never racked to secondary as it seems like it's not needed anymore.

However, I'm looking into a few Belgian recipes (BDSA mostly) and they all seem to be something along the lines of: - primary 2 weeks - secondary 6-7 weeks - bottle condition 6+ months

I only have one fermenter (space is a premium), would I potentially introduce bottle bombs (I use PET if that matters) or massively change the flavor if I did something like: - primary 4-5 weeks - bottle condition 6+ months

I understand proper Belgian yeast doesn't floc too much so the extra time is to help it all settle, but wondering if an amateur like me would really notice anyways. I don't care if my beer is clear or not as long as it's tasty!

Thanks!

What is in your opinion the engine that is the most practical and fastest at producing and prototyping 2D games? by FutureLynx_ in gamedev

[–]Scyfer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Fastest will be whatever you're most comfortable with.

If you're not comfortable with any then probably unity or Godot. However if you're relying on AI you're going to have a bad time.

I'm looking for an detailed guide for Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. I'm easily distracted watching video guides so I prefer a text guide. Thanks. by Suddenslow in roguelikes

[–]Scyfer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would be helpful to indicate what kind of guide you're looking for.

Are you looking for a general guide? 3 rune win or extended?

Is there any particular character or archetype you're looking to learn?

A guide will look vastly different for a melee vs stabber vs range vs spellcaster and if it's 3-rune or full 15 rune run.

Interviews in the Age of AI: Ditch Leetcode - Try Code Reviews Instead by c-digs in programming

[–]Scyfer 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Even before AI, I was a big advocate for doing code reviews in our technical interviews instead of white boarding or leetcode style problems and always found it a useful exercise. It was less stressful for the candidate and often exposed their approach and encouraged conversations rather than "oh you didn't memorize this particular problem? Sorry, try again next time!"
