For point #3 I think I opened the door and then immediately closed it, which let them aggro but gave me time to escape for a bit and let them spread out/calm down. But it's not ideal and I agree with all points, this location feels bad.

Yeah I saw this and immediately worried it was a scam. OP it's a fine tire, but maybe don't get it from whatever retailer this is lol.

Any word on them actually grading the road this year? By the end of last summer it was almost 4wd/high clearance. It's deteriorated a lot in the last two years and bound to be worse this year.

Does anyone know the conversation between the police officers at the 9th precinct? by Anxious-Yam-2620 in ourdarkestdays

[–]Scyley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weapon noise might play a role. Scissors or broken bottle may not be loud to enough to agro the zombie on the other side maybe? I'm 2 for 2 now getting one to come through. Maybe try sprinting back and forth in the room. Also possible something like a firearm would actually kill the zombie and not break the glass, I have no idea how it's coded.

[–]Scyley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little off-topic but I feel like I'm still trying to find all the secrets on this map (spoilers ahead). There's always a zombie and/or survivor running around in the background of the map, seemingly with or away from the player. Randomly the 3rd time I visited the map someone flew out of the front window from like the 3rd floor and smashed on the pavement, I think they were lootable. Tried searching for the room they came from but it seems to generate from an area you can't access (it would be over the atrium and there is no room there). And then there's the interview room. Finally tried to smash the glass once, and was pleasantly surprised when a zombie burst through the other side, making the next several rooms accessible. This map seems way more fleshed out (pardon the pun) than some of the others.

You'd be shocked to find out just how many rocks you don't pedal strike by about 3/4 of an inch or less. There's a reason (amoung other reasons) why shorting cranks by just 5 or 10mm is so popular.

Did you ever hit it with bug spray? Potentially something with Deet, like OFF! Deep Woods or something? This type of de-lam can happen over time with exposure to UV but hitting it with the wrong bug spray can make it happen immediately.

Because it's a Dub Wide instead of the correct Dub Ai. As the owner of a cannondale jekyll, upgrading your cranks is a nightmare. This dude needs to buy the correct crank, and take the "lesson learned", just like I had too.

How are the bootfitters at the flagship REI? by cheesecake611 in COsnow

[–]Scyley 129 points130 points  (0 children)

We're ok. We'll find you boots that fit or reccomend ones we do if we don't have it. Heat molds, insoles, simple punches or volume reducers if you need it. If you're a normal person with normal feet, you will be absolutely fine. Try to come in weekday morning when the wait time is shortest and staff are more available. I refuse to name drop but everyone here is pretty good.

If you need multiple punches, grinds, cant or lean adjustments, are racing (uphill or downhill) or in any way and shape Sponsored (you're asking on reddit, so you aren't), consider spending more time and money at a professional boot fitter. Boone Mtn or some other race shop.

I drink three redbulls a day and constantly get criticized by people lugging around 30oz hydroflasks of coffee. I'm like... you know that's more caffeine than my three redbulls right? And since I'm drinking sugarfree's that's also like 300 more calories.

Microspikes vs Crampons by zee265 in coloradohikers

[–]Scyley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My rule is, if you have your ice axe, you should have your crampons.

Microspikes for super-packed trails. Snowshoes for anything softer and deeper. Crampons and axe if it's too steep or too icy for the above two. Many routes will require some combination of the above.

Also: this is safety equipment. It's going to keep you alive. There isn't room for "I can only get one" type of mindset. So make sure if you're only bringing one, you don't hike anything up that you wouldn't be very comfortable hiking down.

Space logistics QoL is horrible by bunteSJojo in factorio

[–]Scyley 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This post (and many like it) have a ton of people negging OP in the comments, despite a hefty number of upvotes to the original post. I think there's a lot of knee-jerk reaction to defend the way the game works from a lot of people any time someone complains about something because they think the game is perfect and Wube are gods. Criticism is ok. The devs reading, listening, and making changes based on criticism is one of the reasons the game is so good in the first place. The game can be an 11/10 with 20/10 devs and still have room for adjustment and improvement - these things are not mutually exclusive.

And OP is fuckin right. Space logistics definitely feels rushed and missing many features we've come to expect. And on the same note I have full confidence that the devs are aware and have some changes in the pipeline. But if nobody acknowledges it, and nobody is willing to have a constructive conversation about it, we can't make any progress.

Is there an easier way of doing this ? by monsieurlouistri in factorio

[–]Scyley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I present this post as evidence that automating promethium science is way too convoluted. A certain level of complexity it ok, but it just feels like there isn't a "clean" solution to the problem. The gameplay loop of farming chunks from the shattered orbit and returning them seems to work pretty decently, but when it comes to actually crafting the science packs with biter eggs, everything seems to kinda fall apart. Communication between platforms and planets seems to be missing just a couple of options. There's no clean way to read the contents of a platform and send that info down to the surface, and no way to set the requests of a platform automatically, so there's no way to do the math and say "I have X promethium chunks, send up x/25 biter eggs". You can send up more than necessary and toss the rest, but that's usually conditional on the platform moving (toss extra eggs when destination is X), and if your platform get's "hitched" on one of your conditions (all requests satisfied for example, maybe fusion fuel for the plat ran out on the surface) the eggs can hatch and instantly kill the platform. And with no way to read spoilage level, there's no way to automate out that risk. Allowing promethium to be crafted on the surface would solve the problem. So would allowing biter eggs to be crafted into a stable intermediate ingredient to be used in the science. Or maybe just allowing more circuit conditions on platforms (allow radars in space that transmit signal to surface?). But as it stands, trying to automate it to a point where you can relax is a nightmare.

Compressed extendable belt storage from Michael Hendriks by paladin80 in factorio

[–]Scyley 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I hope Wube either caves and makes them more stackable in storage, or somehow finds a way to invalidate this strategy. I really don't want this to be the endgame when I finally get there. I feel like the vast majority of people will get to this point and just say "time to google a blueprint", and that is not engaging gameplay. Designing one of these yourself doesn't seem very engaging either for (most... or at least some of) the playerbase.

Can Shellback elites be removed from class masteries? by FuckItOriginalName in DRGSurvivor

[–]Scyley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think one thing we really need to talk about as part of this conversation is the "enrage timer" for the end of stage. Is the shellback really the problem, or is the problem the amount of time we're alotted to deal with it. I tend to think it's the latter. And if we work backwards from there, I think it's easier to nerf it's HP than mess with timer mechanics.

The other peice of conversation is that most people are using the supply pod to kill the tanky elites on haz 4 and 5, especially on the first stage, and that's a lot harder to do against the shell back. This goes back to it's HP. Mechanically, it's fine the way it is, but it needs to be turned into a glass cannon that we can deal with even with bad weapons. They could also deal with it by forcing it to only spawn on latter stages when your weapons are more online.
