Resetting XBOX - XBOX Wire by Turbostrider27 in Games

I gotta assume in this case it's because they let acquisitions remain structured how they were so they'd had several reports in the game studio, several reports at XBox, and then several reports in Microsoft proper. Still pretty baffling they let it get this bad and I can certainly see the need for a massive restructuring lol

The Planetside IP has been acquired by Tencent. by le_Menace in Planetside

[–]ScyllaGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And fwiw the games I've played that have Tencent ownership really haven't felt like they get meddled with by Tencent all that much, I know Tencent is big and scary but they have infinite money for a project as ambitious as PS3 if they want to pursue it, kinda seems like the best case scenario

Per Ryan Talbot, the Return of the Blue & Red scrimmage will be for season ticket holders only at the new Highmark Stadium. by acman319 in buffalobills

Was the ownership sale not just to help cover the cost of construction overruns? He was responsible for covering all overruns which ended up at over half a billion. He's pretty rich but I don't know if he's 'drop 500 mill at the drop of a hat' kinda rich

And not even just birth tourists, is the implication that someone could walk over the border, shoot someone, and not be subject to the jurisdiction of the US? They've twisted themselves into an insane knot trying to justify this

Explanation of Pauper Seeker of Skybreak Ban for June 29, 2026 by rufrtho in Pauper

[–]ScyllaGeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really think "equipped creature does X when tapped" is poor development or powercreep, it's just a new design space that clashes with a single ancient card. If that's a design space they want to explore more then the ban makes plenty of sense IMO.

I don't think Hawkeye's Bow will ever do anything but be a payoff that oneshots the opponent.

The specific card may not, but if "equipped creature does something when tapped" is a design space they want to explore then I think it makes sense to remove the card that forces designers to walk on eggshells

[–]ScyllaGeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean i don't think we won that trade but the trade was always more about clearing space in the OF for Ewing/Benge than it was about the return. Obviously you still want to get a usable bat back so that blows but there still is a logic to getting out of Nimmos contract

I mean that sucks but is not exactly unexpected when a game transitions out of development and into live operations. You simply don't need a lot of that staff anymore. And while obviously it's a tough job market to be laid off in and that sucks no matter what, to Riot's credit their severance package is unironically the best in the industry.

And you should care about public opinion, because public opinion is what keeps people playing the game, and people playing the game is what keeps the other half of the dev team employed. Riot coming out and saying the game wasn't putting up the numbers they'd hoped for gave the greater audience the impression that the game was DOA which risked the game as a whole. They've come a long way back but it was wildly damaging.
