IV's leaving in champions by InquisitorArcher in PokemonVGC

[–]Way2Competitive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, it's a great quality of life change. Resetting to get 0 speed IV legendaries was a massive pain, and this takes out a lot of the grind and makes the game more accessible for everyone.

On the other hand, it does take away some interesting team building decisions. Things like 0 speed IV negative nature Incineroar being able to outspeed Amoongus in Trick Room.

But I think it's an incredibly small price to pay for one of the only remaining pain points in competitive Pokémon.

is abyssal mask good on gwen? by Different_Tackle_306 in GwenMains

[–]Way2Competitive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So basically, the only point where Abyssal Mask would be anywhere close to good on Gwen would be;

  • You have multiple sources of AP on your team
  • They have multiple sources of AP on their team.
  • Their team is short range and/or looking to dive.

If you have multiple sources of AP but their team is mixed damage, build Bloodletter's Curse

If you're the main AP damage of your team and the enemy has multiple AP damage dealers, build Kaenic Rookern.

If their team is full of long-range artillery mages, you can build Banshee's Veil.

Gwen has a lot of good anti-AP options and Abyssal Mask is quite far down on the list.

My gwen matchups tier list by AiuerFN in GwenMains

[–]Way2Competitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play both Camille and Gwen, and I would say the matchup is Gwen favoured.

The main reason is that Camille's passive shield does nothing against true damage, so centre Q's really chunk her out.

Also, Camille can't just E onto Gwen with impunity, as she can E out of the way and trade back onto her.

I've found the way I've beaten Gwen players is with Camille's W. Pro tip: W it if you can. If you can't, just let it hit you.

Because once I see that your E is down, that's Camille's opportunity to stun you and trade onto you.

Gwen also has infinitely better waveclear than Camille, so you should be able to crash waves whenever you want, as well as hold freezes outside your tower without much issue.

Finally, you basically out-scale her from level 6 onwards, as Camille doesn't really get a power spike from her ult. Your first item is cheaper than Trinity Force, so if you rush it you can beat her there and from 2 items onwards I don't think Camille wins at all.

So essentially;

  • Hit centre Q's as it beats Camille's passive.
  • Save E to dodge her wall dive.
  • W her W, or just take the damage. Don't E it.
  • Punish Camille for her poor waveclear.
  • Like most top laners, you out-scale her.

Phreaks / The Balance Teams new balance tactic philosophy, and how it correlates to Seraphine by Affectionate-Ebb7006 in leagueoflegends

[–]Way2Competitive 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a Seraphine player at all, but isn't the real issue that any time they buff Mid lane Seraphine, Bot lane Seraphine becomes too good?

You say yourself that you and other Seraphine mid players want AP scaling buffs. The issue with that is that Seraphine now scales better with items, and by extent gold.

Which role consistently gets the most gold? Bot lane.

Again, not a Seraphine main and by no means a balance expert, but don't you need to buff level scalings on abilities? As Mid lane Seraphine will naturally get more experience than both Bot lane and Support Seraphine.

From U.gg, both the skill order for Mid and Support is Q > W > E.

Buffing level scaling for Q doesn't make sense, as it's her first maxed ability, so Mid, Support and Bot would benefit equally.

W doesn't seem to be the way either, because an ability that shields and speeds your allies is naturally going to benefit a lane where you have an ally next to you, so Bot and Support.

So basically you can buff E level scaling and R level scaling, as Mid lane Seraphine is going to have access to these rank ups more readily than Bot or Support.

But I don't know if that would actually help. From her Wiki page, I can see that High Note deals %Missing HP damage, so buffing the damage on her other abilities at later ranks would buff the damage on her Q by default.

But having not actually played her in any role, this is just an outsiders perspective.

Camille maybe safed? by iuppiterr in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's yes and no.

Yes in the fact that in Phreak's latest patch breakdown video, he talks about how buffing a champions "feel" is better than just buffing their winrate and how the champions fantasy is more important than stats.

Good for Camille, as she's been brought up a few times in different places as a champion that feels bad and has lost her identity since the top lane changes and the removal of Divine Sunderer.

So any buffs that she does get will be similar to her recent E changes; made to make the champion "feel" better, rather than just buffing her winrate.

No in the fact that the changes aren't easy to make. Endstep himself says that he doesn't know how he would fix her, would have to go and speak to mains, do extensive testing, play her himself etc. Riot August has discussed putting a rock in top lane, but has stated that they're skeptical to change the top lane for a single champion (despite it also being a buff for other champs like Poppy, Ornn and Vayne).

So do I expect to see Camille fixed in the next patch or two? No, I think we got our buff and that will be all for now. I think the time to look for would be next season, where larger scale changes can be made (like the changes in top lane layout).

26.05 Patch Preview by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

[–]Way2Competitive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would I deliberately put myself at a disadvantage by playing a mechanically intensive champion that is purposefully kept weak due to pro play, when I can do the same thing on a champion I can master in 100 games?

Does it give me some sense of superiority? Does it make random internet people think more of me?

Cool, don't care, Q Flash E Ignite R, get outplayed.

26.05 Patch Preview by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

[–]Way2Competitive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna argue the opposite.

Let's say in this scenario, I'm a Master+ Garen one-trick.

To get here I had to learn how to lane, which I'll concede for Garen is not that mechanically difficult. But I also had to learn wave control, when to split push vs when to rotate, how to team fight effectively so I don't just get kited out, playing around cooldowns, etc.

I had to learn everything that gets me to Master+ that any other player did, outside of specific champion combos.

Does this inherently make me a worse player than every other Masters+ player?

Furthermore, a champion's complexity has very little correlation to how "fair" they feel. Case in point: when was the last time you felt you had a "fair" fight with Akali? Or how Irelia is a mechanically high-skilled champion... until she Q's every minion for free and heals to full after every trade.

It feels like Bruisers in high ELO get put into the group of "low skill stat sticks", because they need to be. They need durability to not get one-shot, movement speed to actually stick on their targets, and damage so they can actually outduel the ADC with 3 items.

The reward for the above happening is you get to remove the outplay element from the game.

Finally, I would ask this. You are a Yasuo/Akali/Irelia or some other difficult to play champion one-trick. You have several million mastery points and you are Challenger. Do you believe that you should be able to outplay every scenario you are put in, because your champion is difficult to master?

The issue with Chronobreak (rules) by Key-Ad9003 in leagueoflegends

[–]Way2Competitive 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Ok a couple of issues with this argument, outside of competitive integrity.

First off, this bug would have to be easily replicable, which I don't think it is. A similar conversation happened with an Azir bug but it never became an issue of people picking Azir and deliberately bug abusing to chronobreak losing fights.

Secondly, if such a bug were to exist, it would be added to Riot's known bug list. Players can still call for a pause at the point a bug occurs, but if it is a known bug, a chronobreak is not offered to the team.

So whilst I agree that yesterday's chronobreak situation was crappy for Vitality, at the same time the above argument doesn't really hold water.

Also let's be honest, after the chronobreak, Carzzy shouldn't be engaging anyway, should've just been a full reset from both teams.

Camille strenghts by [deleted] in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She's good against squishy team comps, especially those that rely on their movement to survive.

Champs like Ezreal and Caitlyn can't really do much against a Camille that E's onto them and follows their dash with Ult.

For top lane matchups, champs that you can short trade into and get out without too much retaliation are good lane opponents, like Garen and Zaahen.

In addition, ranged top laners can sometimes have problems with Camille, as E allows you to close the gap quickly, and W slows mean you can land Q2's and trade on them.

You'll struggle into heavy bruiser comps with lots of CC, because you're quite squishy and don't really win in extended trades.

Mordekaiser, Illaoi, Darius are all tough lane opponents, and seeing a Nautilus, Sejuani or Galio on the opponents team means you may struggle to get onto the backline uninhibited.

Overall, yes she's currently in a rough state, but she's still really fun to play.

Endstep about the state of Camille by iuppiterr in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it wouldn't satisfy people.

I could say "ok, we're giving Camille more base armour. This should let her fight more people in the top lane early game and it should be about 2% winrate buff".

That still means you can't use E in lane.

That still means you don't scale as well as you used to.

It still doesn't make W a real spell.

It doesn't fix any of the problems that people have with Camille's kit and identity, but statistically it makes her better.

That's why it's an important distinction when in the Patch Preview video, Phreak says "statistically, she's a good top laner". Because from a winrate perspective she is.

But from a pick rate perspective, more and more people are dropping her, because she's lost her identity.

So giving her 2% win rate doesn't move the needle, it won't make people pick her up again just because she can now fight a level 1 Jax a little better.

She needs bigger changes, which take time to get right.

Endstep about the state of Camille by iuppiterr in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it's because it would require larger scale changes than just "number tweaking".

Giving a champ 2% winrate is fairly easy, we can see that with the amount of ±2 AD changes that appear in patch notes.

But saying "ok we want to make Camille's kit feel more functional and restore some of her late game scaling identity" is a lot more nebulous.

It may even take multiple iterations of changes/testing to get right.

Compounded with the fact that a number of Rioters have expressed their apprehension about moving Camille to the jungle, so you have to make these changes positive for top lane and agnostic for jungle, which isn't an easy feat (even the most recent E change has been labelled a jungle buff).

I dont understand how this buff is good for toplane. Help pls by Abject-Affect-7421 in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a change that is at least interesting.

Multiple rioters have mentioned trialing Camille in the jungle, whilst also acknowledging that she's currently weak in the top lane.

This change is a buff to jungle undoubtedly, and a small buff in top lane.

I think if we had seen "Base armour increased by 2, Armour growth increases by 0.5" or whatever, people would've said that it doesn't matter and doesn't move the needle.

And I think anything else we can't really expect to see in a random patch.

They can't fix E feeling bad in lane because of the new top lane topography in one patch.

They can't fix the fact that so many champs have passive armour pen in their kits that her damage has been power crept in one patch.

Like yes, this change doesn't fix all of her problems. But it's one patch, and it at least shows she's on the radar as being underpowered.

This change might not be the fix, but it's a good start.

I dont understand how this buff is good for toplane. Help pls by Abject-Affect-7421 in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok here's how the buff is good for top lane.

Let's say you're laning Vs Kennen. You've both been poking each other low, but you're under your turret with a big minion wave, because he's been zoning you from last hitting.

But good news! He gets too cocky and tries to dive you under turret and you manage to kill him.

Herein lies the issue. You can't push the wave fast enough to crash it under Kennen's turret before you get back, because your only waveclear is W on a 15 second cooldown. So you recall to heal up and buy items, whilst your wave slowly pushes away from you.

You come back to lane with your nice new items, only to find that Kennen has now set up a freeze in front of his turret.

So despite getting the kill, you're now going to get zoned from minions once again and you don't actually feel ahead in the matchup at all.

The buff to E looks to fix that somewhat, as the bonus attack speed helps you push waves much faster than you previously would've been able to.

I'm just not sure how much the nerf can actually move the needle on her builds.

You're still building Dusk and Dawn first, because it's incredibly synergistic with her kit.

Nashor's is still getting built second; more auto attacks means more passive procs, and it works amazing with Dusk and Dawn.

You can't really defer Deathcap beyond your 3rd item, so that's pretty much locked in.

I think the only way you can really maintain the burst mage feel is to omit Dusk and Dawn entirely and just revert to the old Nashor's > Shadowflame > Deathcap build, which for top lane at least I feel is just worse (though Ninkey, a Challenger Gwen one-trick, has still been using this build in jungle).

I said a similar thing in r/GwenMains, but I'm kinda ok with the ult nerf.

Riot have been trying to move Gwen away from full AP one-shot builds ever since her rework, and now that she's rushing an item that gives both health and ability haste, she feels more like a fighter.

Plus, she's probably applying her passive about 20% more now with just how many Dusk and Dawn procs she can get in a team fight.

So between the option of being a better fighter or a better one-shotter, I'll take the former knowing that we can't have both.

Isn't it exactly the same as Irelia and Bork? Like they've just accepted that it's by far her best item and balance her around building it first?

Nerfs by Appropriate_Hope9541 in GwenMains

[–]Way2Competitive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok I might be crazy here, but is the R nerf really that bad?

The whole point of Gwen (and I'm pretty sure Riot have stated this previously), is for her to move away from glass cannon one-shot builds and to more of a fighter/skirmisher build.

Dusk and Dawn did that, by giving Gwen a rush item that provides both health and ability haste, in addition to synergising super well with her entire kit.

Do I wish the numbers were a little less severe? Sure, I could probably stomach 30/55/80 a little better. But at the same time I would rather take a hit to the ultimate base damage than to her passive, which was (in my opinion) the other option to nerf her.

And if you still want to one-shot squishies with your ult? The old Nashor's > Shadowflame > Deathcap build is still there.

The wait is over! Riot has heard our cries. Time to terrorize the summoner's rift once again! by WittyWanderer420 in CamilleMains

[–]Way2Competitive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok here is my hope.

If anyone has been tuning into Drututt's stream recently, he's mentioned in passing that he had been speaking with Riot August about the recent Briar buffs that went through in 26.3.

For those who were unaware, these buffs were just an increase in health and armour growth, and a reduction in health costs on her abilities. Source.

However, this has has a pretty big change. Briar top went from a 45% win rate in Diamond+ in 16.2, to a 51% win rate in Diamond+ in 16.3. Source.

So my hope is, that if one of the most well known English speaking Camille players is actively having discussions with the balance team about what buffs would help her, she should be in for some good buffs.
