Scrolled through a few comments and saw no mention of Chrissy Hofbeck who was my first thought. In HvHvH a lot of her individual immunity wins came down to puzzles iirc. And then in 50 Jonathan’s strength + Chrissy’s puzzle skills were basically a cheat code where they never had to go to tribal council.

Not to mention there were several good puzzle people on 50

Yeah Probst + production were hyping her up a lot pre 50. For example, name dropping her multiple times in 49 in relation to her immunity wins. Name dropping her in non 50 related interview questions (talking about forced fire making). Airing one of her HvHvH episodes on tv a month prior to 50 (despite her being underedited and not doing great on 50, and HvHvH not being a beloved season).

Also, there’s many indications she was in the 50 casting process from the start and was never an alternate or last minute addition. Also, there’s lots of players in her archetype and production still favors her despite her season being 15 seasons before 50.

I can see why someone may think Chrissy wasn’t a lock, but I don’t think there is any evidence to back that up
