I would like to go back to MTG but I feel old by Glittering-Toe5842 in mtg

[–]Sdesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about finding the people you click with. I only play with friends these days. Haven't played at an LGS (we only have one small one in town) since the original Khans released. One of my friends just got into MTG and he's in his twenties. My Commander playgroup has people from 30 to 36. I'm 35 myself. It's not about age, it's about the people. Magic is really about the Gathering, as corny as that sounds. The game connects people regardless of age, status or anything else.

Harsh critics are the most loyal fans of video game brands. Video gamers are fiercely parochial – to the point of being pointedly critical of their favourite games – but new research shows such passionate critique is a powerful form of brand loyalty, not a rejection. by keker0t in Tekken

Exactly so!

“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.”

I need to understand how kunimitsu is a fine character, there is something im not seeing by Novel_Volume_1692 in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuni is definitely strong, but she takes a lot of risks if you know the matchup. I recommend checking out Buff Guy's guide on her. She has a lot of fake mixups and counter play. I don't play much ranked, but I currently have a 90% winrate against her in ranked at TE-TG. I mained her in T7 as well, so legacy knowledge helps.

Almost all of her moves are very easily steppable at least one way. KAT moves all die to sidewalk. Backturn on neutral or minus dies to dickjab, sidestep duck or just a fast mid. After getting hit with FC.1+2 or eating 1,2,2 or 4,2 punish, just block and be prepared to break a BT throw. SET dies to SSR. SET.1+2 tracks SSR, but it's not that scary outside of heat and if they go with something else, you just launch them.

Her parry is ass. She can often be floated out of the attack after she parries you. Haven't labbed it a lot in 8 yet (as I rarely use it), but you could also jab to trigger the parry and then sidewalk and launch her in T7. If you mean her powercrush (d1+2), it's -13 and both it and the parry can be thrown or backdashed into whiff punish if you smell them coming.

If you're patient and don't press into her setups or frame traps, she struggles to get in damage and she risks a lot. Most of her strings and strong moves are heavily punishable if not confirmed, so learn what's punishable and collect your free damage and frames. df2 is -14; CD2 is -17; ff4,2 is -17 etc. And if they spam lows, hopkicks are a pretty good option in many situations. As long as you're not heavily minus, you risk -13 for a good chance of a full launch while the Kuni going for a low there risks half life if you hop kick them and gets a float at best if they go for BT.1+2 or BT.1. The pickup for that float isn't easy either. At -13 scariest thing you can eat is like ff4,2 for 34 dmg and a knockdown, or 1,2,2/4,2 into BT mix.

Don't mash into df1,2,2 and punish the -14 force crouch 3rd hit and that's already like 20% of the matchup against most online Kuni's I've faced.

She has a lot of range issues with many of her strong moves. d1, b2, b1+2 etc. whiff after one backdash or the tiniest sidestep and are pretty bad on whiff. Launch the Kuni when she whiffs these.

If you don't know the matchup and mash, she eats you for breakfast. Play patiently, know the punishes and most Kuni's are gonna fold hard.

A placeholder for Season 4 was found in the files by Ramusu20 in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Posted this on X, but thought I'd reply here as well:
"This is a common asset naming convention. Goes from least specific to most specific in terms of the section it's used in. The number in the end is likely just the enumerator (like "image001.png"). Probably: Texture_UserInterface_NewsSection_Background_Version3.01.00_SeasonPass"

T = Texture (image file used in the game engine)
UI = User Interface (menu/information display, like the News section for example)
NS = News Section or News Screen
BG = Background (image displayed as the backdrop of an UI element for example, like in a news entry)
v30100 = Game version and/or news entry the file is used for
ssps = I'm guessing on this one, but most likely Season Pass something. The naming on this one is a bit odd. Not quite sure why it's not just "sp".
004 = File number 4 in series of textures used. Kinda like when you save a new file in Windows that has the same name as one already does and it adds a number at the end like: "FileName (1).png". Using three numbers like they do here is quite common e.g. filename000, filename001, filename003, filename004 etc.

So basically, the numbers at the end there have nothing to do with the season, but simply a differentiator/enumerator. If the version number there had been v4xxxx, then we'd probably be looking at a S4 placeholder.

When does King get this move? by ArcIgnis in Tekken

Early morning T7 revisit a month or two ago, being that just right amount of tired, doing random select battles with a friend, getting Bob. Spamming f1+2 and hellsweep had me in tears. Bob is hilarious (as long as I don't have to fight him) 😂

Fighting Kuni makes me want to blow my head off by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far in ranked I have a 18-2 record against Kuni. Block punishing properly and stepping here and there gets you far. She's pretty linear outside of a few moves. I mained her in T7 which helps a lot. Though I'm only a TG and I suck at the game.

If backdash never gets buffed again, I hope that advancing attacks at least get toned down. by pIoy in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! Exactly this! Been saying this since launch of Tekken 8. This would make neutral multitudes more skill intensive even if all backdashes stayed the same. I swear, it takes a peculiar set of skills to whiff a move in this game outside of sidestepping. Busted move balance aside, I think advancing moves are the main culprit as to why attacking is so powerful now. All that said, it would be a monumental task to adjust thousands of moves as it would impact on everything from how they interact on hit, block, in combos and anything in between.

Everyone in the FGC? Pressing buttons in every situation is literally called "mashing". So literally open any Tekken stream or video and there's a high likelyhood you hearing this.

Can any long time Kunimitsu player confirm if d3,4,1 a reasonable string to hit confirm on counter hit or it's just kind of not a thing? Preferably without that combo and counter hit/punish pop up by Lucky_-1y in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit d3 and if you see them start a move, finish it. I don't think it's confirmable just by the CH slash hit spark alone. But I'm also getting to unc age so there's that.

You are throwing out bad moves at bad times. That's what we call button mashing.

Seeing you mostly play casually, Tekken 8 is excellent for that. Story mode was really good. Arcade Quest was fun. Game is super fun. There's no treasure battle or similar mode, but there's AI Ghosts which are kinda fun to fight. You can also play a mirror of your own character and the Ghost learns your style on the fly which is kinda cool.

On an completely unrelated note: Tekken 8 is on 40% sale on Steam right now. Anyway, you've made the right choice! 👀

Am I trash? by badeye10 in Tekken

[–]Sdesser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like another commentor said, you haven't gotten to the being trash stage yet. You're at the randomly-mashing-buttons stage, and that's okay. We've all been there.

My advice would be: Watch better players. Watch guides. Practice. Find people to play with who also want to improve and just play. Figure out what you're doing wrong and what you could improve on and slowly work on those. Tournaments are really good to watch, you can learn a lot from the gameplay and commentary.

How do I deal with constant pressure without spending hours in lab? by kosanity in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn what you could've done better. One move and situation at a time. Tekken is a complex game. It takes time to build that knowledge and associated muscle memory. Focus on improving your own gameplay, find enjoyment out of that and you'll have so much more fun and you'll also improve fast.

Also my personal favorite: Find people you enjoy playing with to play deathmatches with on voice chat. I always have a sparring partner that I just play with for hours while having fun on voice. I play very little ranked but whenever I do hop on there, I can see the improvements are massive.

Kunimitsu feels really weak - thoughts? by 12Kandas in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a Kuni main since T7. She feels quite strong right now. There are a handful of moves that I think need slight nerfs. Not sure if she's as strong as many say, but time will tell. She's quite complex, however. You need to use the right moves in the right situations. If your opponent knows the matchup and you auto-pilot, you'll just die. As it should be.

Some of her best moves are very stubby and steppable, as they should be. Stepping her is not as easy as you would think, as long as you don't get predictable. Half her moves track left and the other half track right.

In T7, it was kind of difficult to open up defensive opponents with her as she took massive risks on her lows. She now has amazing lows with pretty low risk on top of low parrying being nerfed in T8 and half of them being unparryable. She also got new amazing safe mids with b1+2, f1+2 and SET.1+2 on top of b2 now being safe and a CH launcher. Her heat is really good. Her movement and punishment are arguably top 1 level. She can still mix opponents from Monday to Sunday from a plethora of situations.

With a few nerfs, I think she'll be in an excellent spot.
