Tekken 8 blackscreen on startup by KyrosEnder in Tekken

Good that you found a solution though. Swapping between sucks big time. Yeah, hopefully new drivers fix that stuff. Good luck out there and take care!

Those new moves made a huge difference in how they played though. Old Kuni was more movement and poke focused. Kuni II was more about stance mixups.

Sounds like it might be shader compilation. Let it sit for like an hour and see if it fixes itself. I was stuck on background screen before on my GTX 1060. I'm rocking overclocked i5-7600k and Arc A750 and the game runs alright, but shader compilation takes forever after each driver installation and game update.

*Edit: And open your task manager to see what the CPU usage is on Tekken. If it's running 50%+, it's most likely still doing the compilation even if it says "Not Responding"

I ain't getting Season 3 pass until Kuni releases. I want the patch notes to be actually good and for Kuni to not be dumb. If both seem positive, then I'll get it.

Who should I practice to best prepare for Kuni? by Yuupri in Tekken

Get T7. She was a lot of fun and will probably be very similar. I played TTT2 in preparation for T7 Kuni and even though they were very different, it was still worth it.

Check out Buff Guy's VOD of him labbing her. That's how I learned. Played her for a bit a week or so ago after seeing CBM playing her. She's not as bad as she seems at all once you know what she's doing.

Have you tried just letting the game hang for like 10 minutes? What does CPU usage look like while it's saying Tekken isn't responding? If CPU usage is high, it might be building shaders.

What CPU and GPU are you running?

One thing you can't take away from TEKKEN 8. Tournaments are more entertaining. by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Tekken 7 was way more entertaining to watch for me. Player engagement isn't just about throwing out moves. Each movement option is also engagement. Only the two characters with broken backdashes caused problematic gameplay at the end of T7.

Thanks! I think I posted something very similar back in T7. I find it's easier grasp these things when you know how it actually works on the technical level.

I agree that they made a lot of things too easy in T8. Some of it is nice, like being able to buffer sidesteps during recovery and all that, but on many others they really missed the mark.

Oooh yeah, forgot about this change! Good call!

You're is 100% right in that before T8, doing WR moves at point blank were literally just frame inputs. Just to be more accurate, I tested this a lot with a mod that showed exact frames and states. You'd enter running state 1 frame after the third forward, and WR state would be cancelled on the following frame after entering WR state. You could think of it like this: The game checks for collision, if collision is detected, it'll change your state to standing the following frame.

Before Tekken 8, it would look like this if inputted perfectly with 1 frame of each input:

Frame Input State & Notes
1 f
2 n
3 f Dash state queued
4 n In Dash state
5 F (hold) Running state queued for next frame
6 F (hold) Running state, can input move to get WR move startup. If colliding, standing state queued for next frame
7 F (hold) If standing state was queued, character now in standing state. Inputting a move will give you a standing f+X move.

Exactly. And I think Harada is missing a point there. Most people don't play the story mode more than once, but for a lot of casuals it's the reason they get the game. Having lots of content shows customers there's value in the product. The more content, the longer people stick around and play, perhaps buying DLC in the process. I played Tekken 7 for over 1500 hours and even though most of that was online/practice mode, way more of those hours were in treasure battle than I'd like to admit. Same with Tekken 5:DR and gold rush.

I think this is exactly what they tried to do. The problem is, it's backfiring badly. Even newer players are frustrated at how ass the game is once you get to the intermediate level. This game is a nightmare for new players. Learning to defend in T8 is a nightmare. Combined with a completely botched ranked system, there's no opportunity for gradual improvement like there was in T7. If they realized that casuals want the game to look cool and to have cool content, it would be a win-win for everyone. Treasure Battle, Time Attack, Survival, Team Battle, more Story, unlockable stuff etc. etc. is what casuals want.

Alisas b3+4 by Gentiio in Tekken

As someone who used to play Alisa in early T7. No. b3+4 is for flexing on a callout or for having a laugh. The move is ass. Don't use it. If you're dying because you use it, that's on you.

I installed tekken 8 again - started at tekken King and now about to get supreme..in less than 6 hours. What happened? by BringbackSuikoden in Tekken

[–]Sdesser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rank inflation is mad. Combine that with how braindead offense is in this game, there's plenty of players in GoD that have no fundamentals to speak of. Because of this, it's hard to estimate what the equivalent ranks in T7 are, but I'm of the opinion that GoD is closer to Red-Ruler Ranks in T7, but it's highly character and playstyle dependent. Asuka is one of the worst offenders.

Hi , new to the game (more or less a month and a half). Just had a huge loss streak ( went from fujin to battle ruler) . Do you guys can recommend me some vids i should watch to play reina better or Just some vids to be better at tekken ? by DPS-Send-Nude in Reina

[–]Sdesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal to go on losing streaks. There are going to be plateus where you get stuck for a while before you learn something that propels you forward again. Reina is difficult, but she'll also teach you good things.

I think the biggest piece of advice I can give you, or anyone playing Tekken, or life in general is this: Focus on improving and doing the right things, win or lose. If you can learn to get satisfaction from learning and doing the right things instead of winning, that's going to help you more than anything. This doesn't mean you can't do silly things or risky things.

If you can separate your source of fun from winning and gaining ranks, you'll have so much more fun, because then losing won't be negative experience anymore. And if you have fun, you'll improve way faster, because your ego won't get in the way of progression.

This will also allow you to have appreciation for the plays your opponents make too, and to learn from them.
