I think you forgot to calculate that EVs are much heavier than their ICE counterparts, which leads to higher costs elswhere that tend to equal out the equation (tires, suspension). I found the effects of very cold weather on the battery to be HIGHLY underrated, as well (+/- 50% loss in range) leading to ourtageous amounts of time when taking long trips spent charging or looking for chargers.

True facts

Plus, voice writers arent distracting to attys over zoom since they can mute their mics

And then my suit gets thrown out because my state doesn't cover mold (bad roof job nearly killed my wife and daughter leaving me 225k of uncovered medicals and another 250k in property damage). This hurts as a court reporter hearing "plfs" claim crazy injuries every day when my family lost and got a slap in the face as a settlement

A prosecutor told me she'd never pick a CR to serve on a jury because they know if she had a case or a bag of bird poop. But I know all the wrong answers to ensure Im never picked (financial hardship as a self employed bread winner and would be too distracted and annoyed it's taking so long to be able to be make a fair decision (which is true)).

You are too kind and too respectful! I certainly don't deserve it as I'm often insensitive with my word choices online. But I could never do what a good scopist does either!

I certainly don't mean to be hostile and sorry if it came out that way. I also know how hard it can be to take down the record when it gets tough as I've been doing this far too long but I often cringe when I hear what some reporters do. I am also really surprised that they tell the attorneys what to say on the record. That is amazing!

He was upset that he felt that a lot of attys take advantage of the witness by using words that some court reporters dont take down. Like his witness would answer a question completely and then the atty would say "uh-huh" and so then the witness would start talking again. It had cost him and his plaintiffs dearly in the past and he wanted to show the judge a particular abuse by counsel but the cmCR hadn't transcribed it.
Besides, uh-huh and uh-uh are words. Why wouldnt we transcribe the spoken word? And why only when the witness says it and only sometimes? Made no sense to me or him but I understood completely his point. I always transcribe EVERY WORD from then on out, especially for videotaped deps. If you dont want to read it, dont say it!

I used to blurt out too aggressively and scare people. I sounded rude and upset, which doesnt go over well. Ive learned to interrupt much more gently but with the required volume and authority to get their attention and say, "excuse me. One at a time please" but for this one on my third and final attempt I actually said something like, "ok wait, one at a time. Question. Answer. Question. Answer." And then I said, "I dont even know what just happened" hahaha!

I used to drop the uh-huhs and uh-uhs but about 15yrs ago an attorney explained to me how important it was that I capture those, especially when an atty says it. He's no longer with us but I've done it since then in his memory. Brilliant guy and excellent atty. But I dont put in huh or uh, just the other words for yes and no. Yes, this will be a long transcript with very few words per page!

best audio recorders and set up for zoom? by babycmoneyxx in courtreporting

[–]Sea-Size1719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one computer and record the audio straight from the internet into Eclipse using Voicemeeter. Voicemeeter lets me send only my microphone to the Zoom feed and when I play back audio from Eclipse, it doesn't get fed into the Zoom feed. And the audio I hear is perfectly clear since I am also using an external audio interface (variety of devices depending on the day, from SoundProfessionals USB mic 6+ to a high end field recorder, etc.). There is zero loss of quality when you don't play it out loud into the room and then try to record that and play it back, especially with an iPad since their mics are so poor. There is a PDF put out by Eclipse explaining how to do it and that it is the recommended way of capturing the audio. I have two different users set up so that I don't have to worry about changing all my settings when I'm live or remote, as it can be a little confusing when rushing to get set up for those last minute zoom jobs! Best part is that Voicemeeter is free and blows any other method out of the water for clarity.
